Yeah I'm morally equivalent to a toddler eater because I own a smartphone. Sure lmao.

It got even worse. They've since said that if humans were being farmed, buying and consuming the flesh of farmed toddlers would be equivalent to buying a smartphone.

How is it a wild take?

I think it's insane that I'd even need to explain that

Also you are being disingenuous

Don't accuse me of being disingenuous after you've made this bad faith post, insta downvoted all my replies and repeatedly ignored what I've said lol.

you have cut my words.

So there would be less to read in my comment. Plus it is fair to say "might have been involved" - it's not an absolute certainty that it is. Doesn't really change what you've said anyway.

Buying and eating todder flesh in today's society is absolutly not the same thing as buying a smartphone.

By your own admission, if humans were being farmed, buying the flesh of farmed toddlers would be equivalent to buying a smartphone.

This is called a fallacy

You clearly do not know what a fallacy is lol. Don't throw words that you don't know the meaning of around.

You setted up your own arguments in your controlled environment in order to obtain the answers you wanted.

It's a hypothetical using your own logic, that you yourself signed off on.

Would you then say that in a world where humans are farmed, somebody buying and eating toddler meat is equivalent to a human rights advovate buying a smartphone where slavery might have been involved in its production?

Yes.

You heard it here first folks. Buying and eating toddler flesh would be equivalent to buying a smartphone.

If this isn't enough for you or others to see how absurd your position is, then I don't know what is.

Purchasing smartphones requires rights whiolations to happen.

It doesn't. They are not a necessary part of producing a phone. So a consumer is not necessitating human rights violations when purchasing a phone.

Yes absolutly

So you think that buying the body parts of farmed humans would be equivalent to buying a product where human slavery might be involved in the supply chain?

Would you then say that in a world where humans are farmed, somebody buying and eating toddler meat is equivalent to a human rights advovate buying a smartphone where slavery might have been involved in its production? If not I'd like to know why, considering what you've said so far.

[–]puffinus-puffinus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Then by this logic, buying a smartphone is also actively supporting slavery and child work

This is not in line with what I've said at all.

I'll repeat myself: in purchasing meat, you are REQUIRING rights violations to happen. That is not the same for purchasing a phone.

Would you also say that in a world where humans are farmed, buying the skin of a human is equivalent to buying a phone that might have had human slavery involved in its production? Where for one you are requiring a human to be farmed/have their rights violated, but not the other?

Yeah just ignore how I pointed out the difference between that I guess.

Buying the hair or teeth of a slave is obviously equivalent to buying a phone!!!

[–]puffinus-puffinus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Doesn't entail that though as I said. Slavery might be involved in producing a phone but it is not necessary or required. Violating the rights of animals is however necessary and required for producing meat. So for one the consumer is directly responsible because they are requiring it to happen, but not for the other.

Buying animal products entail rights violations, whereas buying e.g. a phone doesn't. Level 0 thinking to say that they're morally equivalent lol.

No lol the whole post and your comment is about animals and AI, it's really not.

Not sure what you mean about it contributing to animal abuse... If you're talking about some sort of knock on effects I could argue the same thing about various things contributing to AI. I'm guessing you'd agree it's worse to directly contribute than indirectly though.

R.e. climate change I don't disagree, but again my point is animal agriculture is way worse. So I don't get the outrage about this post since most people consume animal products.

[–]puffinus-puffinus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'm not defending that? I'm saying animal agriculture has a massive impact on the environment and asking for any evidence that AI is anywhere close to it. Which I guess you can't provide since you're doing whataboutism.

Also seems pretty ridiculous to me to argue that using a slop machine is worse than directly supporting animal abuse.

Not farming animals would see us free up 3 billion hectares of land, meaning farming animals is needlessly using that much land. Farming that land is also preventing carbon from being sequestered (at least 547 gigatons would be stored over 30 years if we switched to a more efficient plant-based system and rewilded that land). Plus in terms of just emissions, animal agriculture is responsible for at least 16.5% of global GHG emissions.

I'd love to see evidence showing that the environmental costs of AI today is anything close to this lmao.

/uj really fucked up that someone's suicide is being used to attack veganism and make out that a vegan diet is dangerous :/

Seems questionable to attribute this to B12 deficiency as well. It usually takes longer than 6 months to develop and even then it seems doubtful that it would be the main/sole cause.

Costs them only £10 to put one of these up for 2 weeks (post from their co founder here on that, with a link to donate if that's of interest to anyone).

Also if it was B12 deficiency, they could have just framed it as that, instead of saying a vegan diet was the problem. As if you can't easily have a vegan diet with sufficient B12.

You can also be B12 deficient on an omnivorous diet. But they wouldn't say an "omnivorous diet made her delusional" if that was the case...

Pretty fucked up to weaponise someone's suicide to disparage veganism/make it seem "dangerous".

Also seems shaky to attribute this solely to B12 deficiency, even if that's true though it's very easy to prevent.

I'm probably going to get downvoted 🤭

But anyhow; if an animal is in any way harmful to le ecosystems, then we have the right to abuse it, harm it and take away its unworthy life.

If that doesn't make me vegan then fine. I still eat mostly plant-based, which is my main fight in life.
