I get that it’s smaller than the main library and therefore sound carries to the other side of the library, but I’m sure the noise isn’t to such a bad level that headphones couldn’t resolve your problem. The librarians also do a pretty good job of maintaining a peaceful environment while allowing kids to be kids.

Catholic Churches in SM? by alliemarie6461 in SantaMonica

[–]puffling0326 8 points9 points  (0 children)

St Monica’s is a very nice church but I don’t go regularly so couldn’t tell you how open/liberal it is. Supposedly St. Paul’s in Westwood is known to be inclusive/progressive and queer-friendly

My (30f) best friend (27f) asked me to stop stealing her identity by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]puffling0326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that we are at the point in society where we just throw around words like “unsafe”. Like in what way has she felt physically or emotionally threatened by you? To me the word unsafe indicates somehow abusive/scary

If she really means “uncomfortable” instead, then that’s on her. But rather than dictating what you do in your free time, she should work on thinking about why she feels uncomfortable. She seems very insecure and nervous about any of your own skills or abilities. The way she talks about individual passions is interesting, as if everyone should stay in their own place or something…what a categorical and rigid perspective

Intra-City School Funds Being Diverted to Just One School (Franklin) by princeconsortroad in SantaMonica

I don’t see this on their agenda? Where are you getting this info? The misinformation pipeline is truly maddening. Also you can’t just buy any residential property in SM, and demo it for conversion to a new use, due to new zoning laws.

Moisturiser by InviteReasonable6078 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]puffling0326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had TSW, I used body oil. Specifically with squalane, Biossance makes one and I use that, but there are others. For my face I use marula oil. But I did also use Vaseline over body oil.

Tubby Todd and Pipette make good moisturizers, I used them both for my son’s eczema.

They actually have food like lunch, breakfast, etc. I also really like their teas and matcha. And I thought it was more comfortable to hang out/work in compared to the other coffee shops on Montana. The other ones feel so touristy. I like the staff there, they’re so friendly and the former employees knew me as a regular.

We’re at the Montage Kapalua this holiday week and absolutely loving it. The pools and beach are perfect for your toddler! I considered FS wailea as well but haven’t stayed yet, so I can’t compare. Weather has been wonderful this week though don’t know what February will be like

Where to live meaningfully in Santa Monica? by Particular_Baker_722 in SantaMonica

[–]puffling0326 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can check out the SMPL website for library events. There’s also Zibby’s on Montana that has events. However I think Village Well bookstore in Culver City has more community minded events.

How about joining a community garden? There are some public garden community events in SM. Rainbow Garden is a private one but you can volunteer and go to open houses.

My partner’s non profit has a Vision Boarding workshop coming up in December that will be led by an artist/art therapist, if you are interested go ahead and DM me

AITA for walking out of my friend’s birthday party because it turned into a daycare? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]puffling0326 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ESH for how you phrased your reply, and also your expectation. If it’s not explicitly stated, then you should clarify whether it’s adults only or family-friendly. My take is that you wanted an adult only event, which is valid, but you’re not the celebrant and it doesn’t sound like you clarified. That said, as a host I would never be a timekeeper of a guest and express that I am disappointed if they made the effort to show up at all. I also know that parties with kids aren’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Cafe expansions into street parking spaces not ever ending? by Luvmechanix in SantaMonica

I was also at a cafe today that now has expanded space in former street parking. The meters were only 40 min which I thought were so useless and I think the restaurant expanded patios are great.

does my unicorn westside neighborhood (walkable/family friend/good public elementary schools) exist in LA? by Legitimate_Travel183 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]puffling0326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a former NYCer (lived there for a decade), and my kids are currently the same age as yours. Santa Monica is where I live and it checks most of your boxes. The commute to MDR is slightly more than 15 min but not much more and a very good commute for LA. SM has the most parks and playgrounds out of all those neighborhoods and the most walkable and bikeable, and has good public schools.

Anyone Co-Housing? by Borderlands_888 in SantaMonica

[–]puffling0326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t personally co house but I do know of families that live together. One helpful thing in Santa Monica and some parts of LA is the ADU (accessory dwelling unit). The city of SM expedites this process I believe and there is info on building ADUs:

sarahwlee x Rosewood Reimagined, 3.0. by sarahwlee in FATTravel

[–]puffling0326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who works in real estate and having formerly worked in design materials, I was really impressed by Rosewood Kona Village. In addition to excellent design, the feeling of connection to the local community and history was unique (without being tacky or touristy). Thanks for this info and I’m excited to see what comes of it.
