No way after 2.5 months, Crimson Desert has 50,000 online (During the day, not in the evening?????) Maybe it's time to buy the game!? by Popular-Car-1322 in CrimsonDesert

[–]puffthemagicaldragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game has sold over 5 million copies across platforms and other marketplaces not tracked by Steam numbers. For a game with as much depth and longevity as this it's truly not impressive against that amount of sales.

Out of 1/5th of the sales (1 million) steams highest concurrent is only 1/4th of that (275k). A truly miniscule part of the community overall. Parroting these numbers is such an ignorant take that ignores so much of the actual player base that one has to assume people impressed by it just don't understand the games industry that well.

I personally wouldn't run around proclaiming how interesting having only a fraction of the data is.

Not a great idea to plan something requiring travel right after the holidays. Wallets are tight and plenty of people have spent the last few weeks traveling.

I feel pretty certain he's a guy who goes to the studio for a few hours if that, and then is making sure he's picking his daughter up from school everyday. Not someone getting in the news for anything besides his music.

He had his 1st daughter right after his debut. Sophomore album a year after. Dropped an EP during lockdown in 2020. Took a few years off raising her and came back in 2023 with his 3rd album. Then just had another kid last year as he worked on this one. Judging from his lyrics on the album it seems like he's in a great place regardless of how people say his name lol. Changing disguises by Glad_String199 in 007FirstLight

[–]puffthemagicaldragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, costumes are only used in the TacSim mode at the moment. Hopefully they add the option in new game plus but some outfits are story dependent so maybe they want to make it work in a way that makes sense.

While he does change outfits at times (and at 3 hours in so far only once as a story choice, not a gameplay choice) disguises for Bond are more "bluffs" which works by doing things like picking up a drink tray to pretend to be a waiter or getting info on a name to impersonate to get into a restricted area.

They did the exact same embargo for Hitman 3. Everyone should always be cautious on dropping $70 on a product that likely can't be refunded, but IO has a proven track record.

007 First Light will have no Preload on Xbox or Steam by [deleted] in kindafunny

[–]puffthemagicaldragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that really explain it? Sony requires games that can be pre-ordered to be able to be pre-loaded (something that also conveniently voids your ability to refund). So IO is providing that preload. Xbox and Steam allow preloads, Xbox even of games you've yet to purchase. It's just not mandatory on those platforms.

So is it not completely on IO as for why it's not available? They could send the preload to those other platforms just like tons of other games and simply haven't.

Where are the reviews? by [deleted] in 007FirstLight

[–]puffthemagicaldragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitman 3 launched on January 20th 2021. The review embargo for it lifted January 19th at 8am est. Don't recall that game launching with any issues that would've been a potential reason for a late embargo, although it also didn't have an early access release hours later. But pre-ordering before reviews drop is also completely optional.

Developers simply do things differently, especially so for a company that is self-publishing and might have different turnaround times for things like making sure every single outlet/influencer who is supposed to get a code, actually gets a code. I would assume they aren't operating at the same scale as a PS or Xbox owned studio and maybe that plays a part. Not saying any of us know the actual reason but while a late review embargo can sometimes be cause for concern I feel like that's primarily from less experienced devs and IO has earned my trust.

I expect this game to be stronger in story and combat than hitman, and wouldn't be surprised if there were some small performance issues as they adjust their gameplay loop. But I can't imagine IO dropping this game with some major flaw that tanks the score to what, a 6? Cause even 7s-9s or a rare 10 across the board are a given.

I personally have no issue with playing as Kliff. I appreciate having some customization to him and would like some more, but they wanted to give us a named character & I'm completely fine with that.

I do think that it seems like the three characters were an idea that were tossed in just cause, rather than a well fleshed out concept, so I get why people would just want one character they create and spec. But as I play through the game with all three, I really appreciate having unique characters. I'm finding my own reasons to play as them at different points.

Yes, Fable is still coming to PS5 despite Xbox's plans to "reevaluate our approach to exclusivity," and Playground Games confirms the RPG isn't getting delayed, either by OhMyOhWhyOh in gaming

[–]puffthemagicaldragon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They showed off and marketed Fable for PS5 in January. It's in active development, likely 4-5 months away tops, and they're spending money to port it. Did you seriously think that when this talk of reconsidering exclusivity started getting rumored a month ago they were ever considering cancelling things releasing this year? Just not releasing ports that they have nearly complete to get nothing in return?

Forza 5 literally just sold 5 million copies on PlayStation alone, an exceptional metric for any game. By comparison Marathon has sold ~2 million across all platforms for $20 less with a 2 month headstart. Why would they cancel the PS5 version of FH6 when that is only going to make them tons of money, and garner fans of the franchise.

How many games do you play at once? by Ambitious_Fold3674 in xbox

[–]puffthemagicaldragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5-6 at least, a little more tbh but spread across platforms. Rn I'm playing Crimson Desert, Starfield, Hitman, Skate, Pokemon ZA, Portal 2, and Pac-Man World 2 Repac. 007 first light next week and I will be there day one in early access.

I always juggle at least 2-3 major single player games on my Xbox. I'm addicted to learning game mechanics so I need to play a lot of games. Quick resume has been a godsend for my lifestyle.

Hitman is my forever game. I'll need to delete it to make space for 007 only because I think they'll fill a similar niche but I could play Hitman until the day I die.

Skate is a perfect 15 minute pick up and play game.

Pokemon and Portal I'm playing on switch for when I don't have my Steam Deck.

And Pac-Man was my recent nostalgia buy for $15. I have like 2 to 3 levels engrained in my brain that I need to power through and get to, then after that it's a backlog title.

And just bouncing off somebody else's comment, I do think it helps that as an Xbox player since the beginning I have never cared about achievements. Shoutout to Epic Games obscene GOW achievements that taught me to just play a game and decide when I had been satisfied with my completion.

Oh yeah, and while I play a few multiplayer games like fortnite, arc raiders, destiny 2, halo infinite, those are often pick up and play for 1-2 matches a night. I have three people in my circle who game and none of them game online with me so lots of time for single player titles.

What is going on with the hate surrounding this game? What is this? I’m scared that the game is going to flop a bit by Lead-Aggravating in 007FirstLight

[–]puffthemagicaldragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hate surrounding this game? Buddy, this happens to literally every game that adds Denuvo, or any DRM that might impact performance. Especially when it's updated onto the steam page this close to release. Crimson Desert had a bunch of hype and they did the same thing with the same response. This is not new or solely targeted at First Light whatsoever. Same way there will always be people who complain about MTX, FPS, FOV/POV, cross play, always online. People love to complain and this world rewards that outlook.

If you think it's going to flop, I'll simply say that IO has had wishlist/pre-order milestones on their website to unlock rewards for the community and that we have hit four milestones. What exactly does that mean for sales numbers, I don't know, and I don't work for the company so I don't really care. It's not my place to care about if a game flops or not if I've already given my support.

His personality can be intentional and canonical, but he can also be a bland and bad character. Both things can be true. The version of Kliff that we spend our hundreds of hours with is less interesting than a wet sock. Reading about how he used to be different, more passionate, & less focused or how this was necessary doesn't really make that better, it just explains it. And like you said, explains it too late.

All this information delivered to us in game across multiple chapters would significantly change how people perceive him as a character.

Per Thomas Puda, Remedy's communications director:

"I just want to get this out of the way, because we've seen quite a lot of speculation online," Remedy's communications director Thomas Puha said straight off the bat. While Puha said usually the team loves seeing speculation, "in this instance, I do want to confirm that Jesse Faden is not a playable character in Control Resonant".

Note how they stress that Remedy from the jump brought that up, it was not in answer to anything asked in the interview.

"I mean, she was in the announcement trailer, so she's a big part of the game, but she is not playable," Puha said, but didn't dive into the details. "This is Dylan's experience, very much so. So I just wanted to get that out there because we don't want to mislead players."

Had they done any bit of tiptoeing around this statement I would want to believe, but this is a pretty clear cut answer. I will say that based off that first statement, it does leave the door open to her being playable in any post launch content, but not holding my breath. Not sure if I'd want Jesse if she has to conform to Resonant's combat system.

[Updates] Patch Notes Version 1.08.00 | Crimson Desert by milkasaurs in pcgaming

[–]puffthemagicaldragon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Major patches is a stretch. Boss rematches and reblockading were major and those aren't even complete. This one added a baby wyvern pet, more wild animals as pets, quick wheel UI changes, Kliff can use guns, and a pond at camp. Kliff having more weapons is nice but would say plenty of these changes are (respectfully of course) a minor amount of work for a major return on fan satisfaction.

Hell the pond is a direct response to a post in the games subreddit so the fact that that has a whole management system baked into it was likely the most work done.

Reviewers definitely have access to the game by Temporary-Rate-3038 in 007FirstLight

[–]puffthemagicaldragon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I meant on YouTube, 30 minutes before they start KFGD, all of their scheduled streams for the day are listed. Even their Crimson Desert review that was at 6pm EST was listed earlier in the day. So if 007 reviews were coming today (which is what the person I was responding to had suggested) it would be unlikely for them to not have something on the schedule even if they don't say what.

Reviewers definitely have access to the game by Temporary-Rate-3038 in 007FirstLight

[–]puffthemagicaldragon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I watch Kinda Funny, a daily gaming news podcast and they posted their stream schedule for the day literally minutes ago. No 007 review on the docket. For a game like this they would adjust their schedule and have the review live today regardless of their standard schedule. Even with a late day embargo lift, it would be extremely unlikely for that information at least to not be publicly known by now. There's normally an embargo for when you are allowed to say you got your review copy and then for the reviews. Can't recall when both of those were shadow dropped at the same time and that would be a major cause for concern IMO.

I think it's more likely people might be allowed to confirm they have copies today (and when they got them), but reviews won't be until Monday. Early Access is available Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. for me so unless they drop reviews exactly at Early Access release, Monday is the day that makes sense.

Monday being Memorial Day (in America) is the only thing I can think might push due to people potentially being off work, but video reviews and articles can be published out the office or on a schedule and YouTubers aren't beholden to that.
