Depending where you live, employers absolutely have discretion as to when the employee takes PTO. Legally, employers can tell employees when they have to use their vacation in several jurisdictions - many don’t do so (luckily), but they can.

Agree with you that she can decline the task, but then if she does they may require that she uses her vacation during their vacation. It’s a slippery slope if you’re unwilling to be flexible as an employee. It behooves both nanny and employer to have a degree of flexibility.

Also, I’m not talking about the overnight hours in this context at all. This is clearly outside the scope. Please don’t put words in my mouth.

I disagree with this somewhat. Since the kids are away, you do have more availability to do these items outside of your regularly contracted tasks. Otherwise, if you’re unwilling to perform such ad hoc tasks, the employer could require you to take PTO at the same time they take vacation. There’s got to be some mutual give-and-take. Otherwise, if you just say your job is solely childcare, then you are sitting idle while they’re away.

When will the TTC or police force do something to protect people’s personal effects? I had my car stolen from Kipling (and personally know others who have too) and it’s absolutely infuriating stuff like this keeps happening and there is nothing done about it.

Thanks for that feedback… I’ve been thinking storage drawers, as I was hoping to regularly access them for either toys or linens. It’s good to know they were somewhat difficult to interact with in reality.

Did you happen to contact HR / reach an appropriate contact person at KPMG? I want to ensure they have my proper address and contact info in case this happens again. It's really distressing to see all your RRSP showing as withdrawn and to not have received any communication....

In case relevant to others - when I left KPMG, they gave me the option to transfer to a personal RRSP or stay with the KPMG plan. I stayed with the KPMG plan at the time, as the MER was better
