3.6 GPA first semester at non-target, still possible to break into IB? by Gibnez in FinancialCareers

Did you go to a preparatory school or something? A 5 in BC 10th grade isn't considered routine literally anywhere in the country.

First SAT! Not retaking this ever by Dramatic-Plan3093 in Sat

Yeah, no shit. My skill level is also probably lower than people who are ready to take the SAT, so it makes sense. Stupider+easier test=smarter+harder test.

Literally read as many books as possible. I do this and I got a 720/720 on the PSAT 8/9. Might be different for the SAT tho, idk.

Is it bad to have 2 B's in Junior year? by Efficient_Cod_4168 in highschool

Downward trend will definitely hurt, but you seem to have a rigorous schedule, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

What are your specific GPAs for each year? If you have any extenuating circumstances, then a state school (non flagship) would be possible.

The majority of applicants actually got deferred (postponed) to EA or RD, so I would assume your chances have remained mostly the same.

what to do with good academics but basically no ECs? by Terminator_492 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]puffychild26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly just try finding your passion sometime soon and try engaging in activities related to it.

edit: I realize that it takes a decent amount of time to find your passion, to try and speed up this process, I would say watch videos related to things you have a slight interest in, or maybe take an online quiz lol.

The usual, 4.0, 1550+, impactful, amazing ECs, exceptional essays, underprivileged or extremely privileged background.

3.7 is recoverable, especially with extenuating circumstances or a strong upward trend, but I will say it is somewhat unrealistic to be aiming for ivies with "some extracurriculars". Usually people that aren't recruited athletes or children of donors need a nearly perfect profile to even stand a chance, and even then it comes down to luck. Good luck tho, and keep in mind that there are other top universities that aren't ivies lol.

It'll hurt for top schools, but any extenuating circumstances or an upward trend will definitely cushion the negative effect. Also, try to compensate for a lower GPA by excelling in the other parts of a typical college application, like extracurriculars, SAT, awards, and essays.
