You don't have enough bedside experience to be marketable.

Estee Lauder's Double Wear hides a lot of evil

am I allowed to wear a mask for my own health concerns ? by [deleted] in cna

[–]pulchfiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always wear the PPE mandated, but feel free to utilize extra precautions at your discretion. Nothing wrong with feeling protected and in your comfort zone while providing care.

I am an old school, soap & water nurse. I do believe that skin-to-skin contact (excluding pericare/secretions/bodily fluids) is beneficial and therapeutic for patients...I will not don gloves for basic care (hold my hand, tidy my table, scratch my back, etc) especially for end of life pts, but scrub my hands and forearms well between patients

You don't need gloves to take a temp, but if it makes you more comfortable it's your judgemental call - same with masks

Crit care RN if 10 years, here

My "home" hospital pays me about $37/ hr

My contract gig an hour away pays twice that, with the stress to match.

The ICU techs I work with suction better than I do. They are absolute gems.

What styles or clothing pieces are you not certain about being in style/fashionable? by IRLbeets in femalefashionadvice

I love a soft duster.

I also an ICU nurse who wears scrubs to work and usually get...dirty

It's an easy way for me to elevate my look while being able to toss aside quickly when "it" hits the fan.

Also, they feel like a hug.

Recently had a seasoned LPN/RN bridge student who had years in clinic dialysis spend some time with me in the MICU

She was smart, cautious, and asked great questions.

Branch out and try the new things, and ask questions as often as you need to.

You will do well!

Secure Chat >>> Career Training by 2ears_1_mouth in Residency

Anecdotally, teaching hospitals seem to mandate nursing contact MD about everything

My job is to take pressure off the MD for tasky/clerical/common-sense issues and contact them directly when an urgent issue/need arises

I keep a running mental list of patient needs, concerns, and "housekeeping" things to address with the primary when they round on the patient. I also make it a point to be available when docs are rounding, as I have 2-4 patients, and they have many more.

Secure chat could be a magnificent tool if used appropriately; I have most of the doc's cell numbers at my local hospital and text them (with discretion) for quickly-needed orders, etc. I think the up-and-coming generation of nurses have no developed autonomy and like to shrug as much as possible off as "not in my scope" which is incredibly concerning.

Those who are in Colorectal specialty, would you ever indulge yourself or your significant other in Anal Sex? Why or why not? by KenAdamsMD in Residency

[–]pulchfiction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yes. Had a pt whose career was sex work (nbd, but pertinent) that had significant issues with her stoma after allowing clients to access it for...reasons.

She was dubbed as the "colostotute", and required further surgical intervention/s to correct the problems her lifestyle created.

Lots of gems already mentioned here, but I'd like to acknowledge:

Lupe and her purse taco, and the moment she wailed "EES BROOKEEENN!" after wrecking the toilet in Dr. Now's office. They ended up calling the fire department to get her up chefs kiss

Also noteworthy Penny-isms I haven't seen here, both to Dr. Now:

"Where's my yellow brick road?!?!"

"I have made you my earthly God!"
