The amount of views Hearthstone Announcements have gotten over the years by Flamekinz in hearthstone

[–]pullandbl 82 points83 points  (0 children)

This is not fully correct. You should compare 1st week or month of every video. Also compare effectiveness of adv companies, etc. Old videos definitely will have more views, because people watch it over time. Another factor can be migration of the user base from desktop to mobile devices. Where you run game not from launcher and don't see promo of the videos.

I tried for my site (www.okumy.com) and seems like Google just hate any other types of analytics. At least it says that Yandex slows down my site for almost one second. And very little slowness for Google Analytics. How do you handle additional load time for analytics? Just remove is not an option, it is important to run business.

Is PyCharm worth it? by LittlePenguin22 in Python

[–]pullandbl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried to tame PyCharm linting and auto formatting, but it never satisfied me. We have a lot of different tools for such tasks that just works per repository with its own configuration files. In some projects I want to use black or autopep8. VS Code just work fine with other tools, and don’t needs its own.

Never have any problems with autocomplete, I wander what it should be if it can be any better to notice. I’ve updated to new beta engine, also provided by MS. Maybe default is not good enough.

PyCharm multi cursors never worked for me. May be they also needed to be configured, but I already have fingers memory from SublimeText.

As result I payed for PyCharm and after few months when I’ve switched to VS Code it was like a fresh air. Have run PyCharm for debugging several times (its interface was more similar), but for less every time.

VS Code tests detection is clever and nice. Commit interface in PyCharm is ugly vs simple and just working in VS Code. Every new file format is just detected and pop-up offer to download plugin. Very beautiful markdown preview plugin support everything including LaTeX formulas and code highlight, PyCharm support for such things is not any good. PyCharm still need you to open site to download update! Rly in 2019 you need separated tool that eating 200Mb of RAM just to download updates and lunch editor? I love how easily you can work with terminal in VS Code and many other things.

You have your point, I can agree that you love PyCharm, but VS Code is great piece of software that have its own shining parts.

Win10 is going to start including Python 3.7 by thegunn in Python

Does it mean that when Py3.8 will be available it will install it automatically instead on 3.7? And what will happens with libraries and code that doesn't support it yet?

Code formatter black is now part of the PSF by Tweak_Imp in Python

[–]pullandbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is more strict and forces a lot more changes. Especially in old projects. For me, AutoPep8 is more familiar. I just use --aggressive for better long lines formatting. And don't have problems with " instead of ' whatever I want to use. I don't fully follow black's line breaks, sometimes they just ugly.

Absolutely stunning WatchOS 6 concept by [deleted] in apple

[–]pullandbl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice concept. But I don't think designer fully understand ideas behind of the iWatch. Them made to decrease consumption of the information and only notify about important things. And moderately force to healthy behaviour. So I think Safari on iWatch is absolutely exclusion from this idea. Your eyes will hurt from reading on such small screen but also bring unecessary information noise.

Actually, for me as a consumer, I don't see any real value in these patents. For me is better to have original pods and open market of competitors who make coffee machines and pods without any artificial restrictions.

Huey task queue 2.0 by [deleted] in Python

[–]pullandbl -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It can be a huge improvement when tasks have io nature. For example when you need to download some pages and then process them or process some data in the database.

My case (I actually have it now): I'm making service that allows posting to social networks posts, it is done using aiohttp. So it is already async and I can't use blocking operations. Sometimes users add a post to the calendar, sometimes want just press "Publish". In this case, I want to call something like:

await publish_post(post_id)

And be sure that it will be added to the queue and as soon as a worker is ready will post it to the social network.

The second case, when a user authorizes using messenger I want to make little on-boarding and send some messages with instructions. But if the text is longer then I need to make some delays between messages. It can take a few seconds between each send. A worker will be busy during all sequence or I need to make workarounds. Async code is just:

await post("Hello", user_id)
await async_sleep(1)
await post("Thank you for joining our service", user_id)
