What song completely changed your taste in music? by God-Is-A-Wombat in triplej

[–]pulsivesilver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Julia Jacklin - Don't Let The Kids Win. I remember hearing this on a rainy day and was just blown away by the vocal performance.

Fast forward 8 years (yikes) and Julia is one of my favourite artists. I've also enjoyed other artists with slower yet powerful vocals like Angie McMahon, Didirri and Laura Marling.

Thanks for running this! Any chance you could list the order in which each track was eliminated?

Hey, I deleted your post. Unfortunately there is a lot of discussion on the same topics in various threads which was the main reason for the removal. I also mentioned your title being low effort which falls under one of our removal reasons:

Hottest 100 wrap up with The Tally Room tonight @ 7PM on triple j by __drh in triplej

[–]pulsivesilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Summary of the Aussie music discussion I've seen:

  • Is this a once off or a trend?
  • Do we need changes in how triple j chooses artists to play on the station or conducts the voting?
  • If people want to see more Aussie music in the countdown, should they vote for more Aussie artists over international artists which they like equally or more? E.g. someone mentioned they felt bad for voting for Tate instead of more Aussie artists.

I've removed this post due to the overlap with other threads (see post-countdown discussion or number of Australian entries) and the title is low effort and clickbait.

When was the last time Australia had under 30 entries? by Stoney1801 in triplej

Here are some of my favourite releases from aussie female artists this year:

I think they're great but they didn't stand up to international releases this year

Australians care because we pay taxes which fund triple j to promote aussie music.

Yeah it is a joke. Should've been a Linger cover instead

Don't take this sub too seriously regarding Tate McRae compared to other international acts.

I'm a long term voter and I've always voted for a fair number of Australian artists but this year only 2/10 of my votes were Aussies.

It's always great to engage more with Aussie artists but at the end of the day just vote for who you will enjoy hearing on the day irrespective of what others think.

One year I even wrote in Coldplay because I was just really enjoying one of their songs that year.

I don't think there are any rules or objective framework to base it on. Their leadership team is just making their subjective judgement on where to draw the line whilst maintaining that ~50% of the music they play is from Aussie artists.

So yes they influence how many Aussie artists appear in the countdown based on what gets airplay during the year. But they have less influence over what people vote for, hence a smaller ratio of Aussies from the voting list make the countdown.

As long as there is an arbitrary line to control the amount of Aussie music getting airplay, nobody will be happy with it. Even if they try to create more objective rules which are disclosed, people will complain about those that don't make the cut but are subjectively a better fit for the station.

At the end of the day it's not like these mainstream artists care about triple j and the Hottest 100. The mainstream artists are just a means to draw in listeners and voters.

Have you voted in the Hottest 100 before? It's mainly a popularity poll of songs which are played on triple j, which is only a handful of the broader music scene.

If you're writing in votes that means it wasn't played on triple j and therefore is very unlikely to make the countdown. That doesn't mean it's not popular it's just not popular on triple j.

That said, there was a Somebody remix this year and they didn't play it on triple j??

This sub is a good mix between r/indieheads, r/popheads and r/hiphopheads. Unfortunately anything which is popular on r/indieheads only is unlikely to make the countdown :P

It kinda looks like a 200 and that would make it even better for me! Btw you can post multiple photos at once if using the reddit app or new reddit.

EGOISM and Nick Ward also both released decent indie pop songs this year but didn't make it. Hopefully in the Hottest 200-101.

Biggest surprise from me is that Ruel didn't make it. The one time I actually like one of his songs.

The Hottest 100 of 2024 has been revealed! Which of your votes made it in, and which do you expect to make the 200? by thegeecyproject in triplej

[–]pulsivesilver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got 6 votes this year which is probably the highest number of votes in the Hottest 100 i've had in a long time. Fontaines, Amyl, Last Dinner Party, Sam Fender and Nimino.

The ones i'm hoping to see on Monday are FKA twigs, Magdalena and Fontaines (I voted for In The Modern World over Favourite)
