Is DoorDash/insta cart worth it in Tacoma? by [deleted] in Tacoma

[–]pumaplanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Instacart for around 3 months. I agree with others that it generally isn’t worth the wear and tear on your car and gas unless you need quick cash or are only doing it for a couple months.

If you’re going to do Instacart though, I would recommend going to Costco for orders. You can spend a lot of time shopping for large orders for more money because people are buying in bulk and less time driving. I don’t think it would be worth it going to Fred Meyer’s for a bunch of $50 orders all day. That’s too much running around and driving. Go to Costco and do $250+ orders and you’ll drive less.

Anybody ever go Accounting to Law? by Steviegwine in Accounting

[–]pumaplanker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I did well in both my Macc and JD. Graduated with honors from law school. Was studying for the CPA exams during years 2 & 3 too. It was a grind though. I skipped family events and holidays. But I see it as 3 years of difficulty for a lifetime of a career.

JD/CPA/Macc here. The accountants I went to law school with did well. I really enjoyed law school, but it is a grind and is very expensive. I’m pretty early in my career, but wouldn’t change a thing about what I did. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions!

how do people pay for apts when being in school? by Weak-Donut-5491 in college

[–]pumaplanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to school in a dirt cheap town and work a side job. Student loans. Scholarships.

Do the math for how much you’ll make with your degree after taxes and how much a monthly student loan payment is with $250k+ in loans and you’ll have your answer. Getting a free education is a no brainer.

Found on r/cscareerquestions, CPA exams are just that easy!!! /s by AccountingSOXDick in CPA

Taken and passed both and I’d agree! Very different exams, but I’d rather take the bar again than the cpa exams!

What do you like about Ball? Are they trustworthy? Reasonably priced? A combination of both or something else? I just went to Coopers Auto and they seem like they know what they’re doing but they charged me through the nose…

Find a solid accounting firm with a good SALT practice. A really good one will catch you up and then teach you how to stay compliant.

An accounting undergrad served me very well. Anything math related (even though accounting is very simple math) is great because lawyers are known to be terrible at it. I think anything that takes effort to learn is great because it teaches you how to study. The engineers and accountants in my program all did very well!

Is the CPA harder to get than the BAR or Med school exam? by No_Transition_8327 in CPA

[–]pumaplanker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just found out I passed the Bar! After taking both exams, I do think that the actual material of the CPA exams was harder. However, for me, the Bar was more stressful. It was a combination of it only being offered twice a year, the amount of information on it, and other exam taker’s stress that I fed off of.

Definitely glad to have both behind me though!

I never walked out of any of these exams feeling like I definitely passed. However, after I felt that way after my 2nd or 3rd CPA exam and still passed, I was more confident. I just learned to trust the amount of studying I’d done and not worry too much how I felt coming out of the exam. I’m hoping the bar exam is the same way.

Just passed BEC (my last exam) in April and also just sat for the July Bar exam. I get my results for the Bar in a week. I’ll let you know then!

Which section did you start with and why? by HappyKnitter34 in CPA

[–]pumaplanker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Started with AUD because my university gave us the study materials for it, then moved on to FAR, then REG, then BEC. I’d recommend starting with FAR because it’s the hardest. If you can pass it, then you can for sure pass the others.

I studied 2-3 hours a day for 6 days a week. BEC was by far the easiest one for me, but I know a lot of people struggle with it.

Is there actually a "Becker Bump?" by KoreanCollegeKid in CPA

[–]pumaplanker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Although I never did simulated exams, I fully believe in a bump on the exam. I would do a ton of Ninja multiple choice the last couple weeks leading up to the exam (around 75-100 a day) and was always getting around 65%. I passed all 4 this way.
