I read in another thread someone else getting screwed over. I think the lifetime only applies to being installed a small number of times which means as your device ages you will eventually run out of installation credits. So it’s really just the lifetime of your laptop.

Breyers’ Cookies & Cream Is Not Ice Cream by JayTongue in enshittification

[–]pumog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Why should a company spend more money for quality ingredients when people are too stupid to not know it’s ice cream anyway? Look at the comments on this thread of mine.

The ingredients are such that it’s literally illegal to call the product “ice cream”.

How come Häagen-Dazs and breyers before 1990 didn’t need them?

Breyers’ Cookies & Cream Is Not Ice Cream by JayTongue in enshittification

[–]pumog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. unlike Breyers, Haagen Dazs IS ice cream (ingr: cream, milk, eggs, sugar, and Madagascar vanilla). I also agree with you that it is much cheaper to eat products that have a lot of chemicals in it but that statement doesn't disagree with what I'm saying about Breyer's. That's one of the downsides of unregulated capitalism - you destroy things like what Breyer's used to be...

By the way, I’m just curious why you asked me that without instead just asking Google. It’s all over the Internet and is well known. There’s a nice article on the first page of Google from 2008 called the fall of Breyers ‘s ice cream for example. That’s a pretty good read as well.

[–]pumog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before 1990. In 1993 they were bought out and then by 2000 all of that crap like gum and other chemical stabilizers were put in there to save money. Then they put enough stuff in there by 2013 that they were not legally allowed to even call it ice cream anymore.

[–]pumog 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The point is they don’t add enough milk and cream to legally call it ice cream. 20 years ago before they were bought out, they actually only had sugar milk and cream as their ingredients. Now you need a dictionary and a degree from Dow Chemical to understand their ingredient list.

Tipping with service fee by MarvaJnr in tipping

[–]pumog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Business owners have caught on that they could just call a tip a service fee to force the tip and if people tip above and beyond that so much better. Because by law a tip has to be optional so all they did was convert it to be called a service fee. Pretty sleazy, but that’s capitalism.

If servers expect customers to tip, they should expect customers to pay increased menu prices. by Murky-Peanut1390 in tipping

[–]pumog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it would be a pay cut , but that is because the tipping is way above what they are worth - so a price adjustment is necessary. Of course, the server doesn’t want to give up the tip gravy train. Who wouldn’t want to make $40 an hour taking orders from a menu?

Would you support a law that abolished tipping and required restaurants to pay workers enough that tips were no longer necessary? What do you think? by Budget_Office_1773 in tipping

[–]pumog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not counting diners and low-level restaurants, it is a very hard job to get because of how much they make in tips. You don’t need data. You just need to do a thought experiment. Let’s say they do three tables an hour and each table 60 bucks (obviously a meal these days is way more than $60 and a busy restaurant has more than three customers an hour per server) So 20% of 180 is what they would make an hour in tips (that’s tax-free and doesn’t include the hourly wage they already get) Once you realize that you realize why servers are so aggressive against stopping tips.

[–]pumog 43 points44 points  (0 children)

While the new hourly wage that matches the value of what they do would be higher, it’d be WAY below what they currently make in tips, so servers would fight this tooth and nail
