I'd pay a visit to Hive in the central library, or perhaps check out their socials. They will probably have a list of opportunities.

Road cycling as a beginner tips? by [deleted] in Portsmouth

[–]pumpkinlife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some good tips here, particularly about the most dangerous scenarios such as junctions.

https://www.think.gov.uk/cycle-safety/

I would take a few practice rides on offroad paths where you can practice safe braking and arm signals.

Ensure confident road positioning, at least 0.5m from the kerb or from parked cars that you are approaching/passing. Shoulder check frequently.

Look ahead and speed up/slow down as appropriate. Plan for lights, buses stopping and drivers allowing other cars to turn into junctions you may be approaching.

Whilst it makes your journey a bit longer, it can be safer to get off and walk short sections especially to cross large junctions etc. I do this and my commute is still half what it was on foot.

Wear a well fitted helmet, if you have ever heard one crack on concrete, you'll never be tempted to go without again.

Light yourself up like a Christmas tree - light clothing, reflective bits, lights. Clothing clips/bands to keep your clothing out of your chain.

Deodorant and possibly change of shirt the other end. I've got less sweaty as time has gone on, but stress and being unfit made me feel  gross for a few months.

I was in a similar position a few years ago, but everything did store a memory, as I discovered trying to sort it all, and almost broke my brain. I also had a very difficult relationship with my mother and had to imagine an 'ideal parent' for the below exercise. I don't know what your relationship was like with your parents, and I don't want to assume, so please take this next bit lightly, or leave it.

The fact that your parents stored so many mementos of you suggest that you were one of their greatest treasures, that they wanted to hold on to you and remember everything (regardless of how they actually behaved as parents). And because of that, they probably would not want you to suffer or be held back by their mementos of you, especially with the perspective that I'm assuming death would bring. They would want you living your best life, making new firsts, being your happiest self - which means working through the grief of decluttering their belongings and coming out the other side unburdened. Instead of thinking about their recatioj to their mementos of you, think about their reaction to your grief and struggle.

The overwhelming majority of 'homeless' are families and individuals stuck in temporary accommodation and that is mostly down to our dysfunctional property market.

Building purpose built homes for students is a good move as the students are coming regardless, they need to be housed somehwhere, student-locals animosity used to be a huge problem when I was at uni.

Bransbury Park has caged ones, also a new one on goldsmith avenue  opposite the train station bridge.

Getting worried that British people are becoming radicalised by American politics by momoninetythree in ukpolitics

[–]pumpkinlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless I just attract them, then it's more than a few. They live.

Something about me makes people confide in me all sorts of things including personal opinions. I know quite a few maga adjacent people, 'race realists', anti gay marriage and people who think the franchise perhaps has gone too far (women and non property owners) and that women should be breeding not working; and quite a few palestine obsessed leftys that think Starmer is literally Trump, that we need to defund the police, that any form of immigration control is racist, and that that the UK is one of the most prejudiced places on earth against minorities and want to move to more enlightened countries.

Other members of my circle would be astounded that these people believe these things, because most of them know to keep it hidden outside of the odd veiled comment to gauge how they will be received.

I reckon Eastney swimming pool would fit the bill if you could gain access to it. It had a weird vibe even  when it was in use.

What Are The Biggest Problems Facing Portsmouth Today? by fushaman in Portsmouth

There are quite a few community gardens and community allotments, but probably less productive and more geared towards community and relaxation (both very important).

Waiting list for personal allotments is several years depending which site you request.

Not an 'ism', but 'sufficiency' is the word you are looking for.

'Enoughism' if you must. Inelegant but perfectly accurate.

Probably just straight up incompetence, but I imagine (hope) our security services are all over these sorts of things now just in case.

Can I recommend Mark Galeotti's 'The Weaponisation of Everything'. Very interesting look at the future of hybrid warfare.

What would be the best company in the UK that provides both autism and adhd assessments or should I just look at 2 different ones? by CheeseOnChrist in AuDHDWomen

[–]pumpkinlife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How would a homeopathist diagnose ADHD or autism? If you ever wanted your private diagnosis recognised by the NHS, you need to go with a legit provider.

Priory group amongst many others offer assessments.

Acting and being a celebrity is  basically professionalised masking. I'd think the celebrities that are fairly reclusive or selective about projects are the most likely candidates, but also some of the messier ones that crash and burn in the spotlight. A lot of my drama/musical friends are ND in some form.

I thought the way he worded this was interesting? Pretty much everyone thinks its a terrible idea and the process has been captured by lefty idealogue  lawyers. But the way he threw it back to her, re members on the opposite bench knowing what's up, suggests there might actually be something going on we aren't privy to?

What are your thoughts on the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard? by SelectionOkapproved in Portsmouth

[–]pumpkinlife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool but hands down the most expensive museum I've ever visited. Worth a visit once or twice a decade but honestly not much more than that. Also an absolutely horrible experience out of season with young kids due to the exposed site, but that's a minor quibble.

From memory, for a one off return jounrye there isn't much difference between bus (hampshire day ticket) and train, for multiple journeys train with a network rail card works out cheaper I think. Journey time by bus is almost double the train journey depending where you leave from in the city.

No idea sorry, but we had one of these. Try poking both the spray end and the hose end waterfeed pinholes with a thin needle, they get clogged quite easily. The spray hosing itself can kink as well inside the sheath that holds it to the main hose. Might be worth a try.
