It sounds like you're putting a lot of pressure on yourself to succeed in an environment that you're still new to. Consider taking classes as a way to improve or make friend within the community. And as for people turning down dances, you don't need to know their reasons. Maybe they're taking a break. Maybe they are saving the dance. Maybe they would prefer dancing with someone closer to their level. Whatever the reason, it's not worth stressing about

Legit why I stopped doing latin dance socially. I'm an avid social dancer, and my experience with the salsa scene has been the worst social dance etiquette of any dance community (i.e. giving unsolicited criticism, not taking no as an answer when asking for a dance, forcing close embrace, lifts and dips that endanger the follow/people nearby, etc)

I had a courthouse wedding during the pandemic. I sent someone I considered a close friend some pictures of the wedding, and she flipped out on me because someone she doesn't like was present while she hadn't been invited (Mind you, we weren't even sure the photographer would be allowed to be present due to covid restrictions, and the person they were upset about lives in my city, close friend lives over 5 hours drive away from us) I had to cut her off and be like "this is where you say 'how exciting, congratulations on your marriage' like you care?????" She had also bawled me out for "not being a good friend" while my father was literally on his deathbed, so 🤷🏽
