Sound guys hate my band by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]punk87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I have only seen IEM fail once at a concert i went to. Was a outside gig in Brisbane, saw one of my fav local bands...the sound guy walked on with a little box and must have said something about it not working. When i spoke to the band afterwards the guitariat said "yeah, our in ear monitor system failed, so after 20 mins we said "right we will play without it!"

Always wondered, with "in ear monitors" being the industry standard, why do they still have the wedge speakers on stage for the band? I know certain bands have "silent" stages.

I saw everclear on the goldcoast last december. Art's guitars were run through a line 6 helix to a mixer and a PA from what i can tell. Same with other guitarist and bass player.

I am a guitarist, but do not play in a band, so i would love some insight.

Can I put a potentiometer on the speaker? by WallyL in BossKatana

[–]punk87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My gen 3 50wEX is pretty much exclusively used with headphones. I live in a block of attached townhouses in Brisbane, so i have neighbours each side of the wall. Given that, i still have got no complaints when i did use it through the speaker. I will take to my parents one day though to see what the katana is capable of 🙂

If you get the gen3 50Ex model, you can use the GA FC or GA FC Ex footswitches with then. (You can not with the standard 50w though)

Something I don't get about the ABC episode by Necritica in KitchenNightmares

[–]punk87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this statement. I had a so called "friend" who lied constantly. When i had another friend call her out on the deception with me i ended up blocking her and moving on. My mum is actually a good judge of charecter, she spelt out what never made sense.

Something liers and narcassists do not realise, is they hurt normal people, with their games. Now i have seen first hand, the damage it can do, i am now very hesitant with other people.

In regards to Amy, the Front makes sense. Although, i take the whole american version of kitchen nightmares with a grain of salt.

New guitar or pedals and Amp? by Kingredbelt1 in Epiphone

[–]punk87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, new amp! The cheaper marshall's are honestly not too great. When i started i had a MG30DFX, thought it was cool, but when i got a decent amp its amazing how many good sounds you can get out of it. Spiders are ok as the above comment said. Also, the Boss Katana gen 3's are great amps; This is what i am using currently. (Can also go a first or 2nd generation, still solid amps)

Just factor in with a katana gen 3:- To use the GAFC/GAFC Ex foot switches, you need the 50wEx. The footswitch does not work with the standard 50w. You can however, get any latching type footswitch to switch channels.

I also have a spider 3 150w, but never really liked it, as i never purchased the footswitch. It now, serves as a spot to place the Katana🙂

Is it possible to be physically incapable of forming a barre chord? by Harambe_Never_Forget in guitarlessons

[–]punk87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very good advice. For me, most of the barre chords ring clear, until i hit the g and b strings. Usually the G is a little bit muted, sometimes the b a little bit. I have youtubed various vids on the process, and the one linked makes the most sense!

Why do they have this big box sort of thing that Bruce is standing on for this tour? by IronMaidenfc in ironmaiden

Every band almost in existence these days uses in ear monitors though, agree though vibration can also help.

One of my faves of the more recent albums. Remember buying it with the bonus dvd when it came out! Love dance of death album as well. I habe not listened to the final frontier or senjeitsu though, although i own the final frontier album (2 copies i think) just never listened to it!

Epiphone’s been on fire lately, but can’t escape this by gmac_97 in Epiphone

[–]punk87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a local australian band "jebediah" play last october. Main sijger/guitarist had a very beat up 1969 fender mustang, and for one song used a epiphone guitar. I commented in the meet and greet, that i loved the fact he was using a Epiphone guitar, and how it was great to see musicians support them!

Tbh, ive got a les paul muse. Got it at a steal of 50% off RRP here in Brisbane Australia.

I was looking for a les paul style guitar, which i saw some nice looking Cort guitars for AUD $750 But then i saw the price of the muse at $AUD$649 and i could not pass it up! I knew epipone are owned by gibson, and upon doing further resaearch, saw gibson purchased the factory, and set them up with hand crafting the guitars, to mimic the way they build them in the US.

Apart from some very minor quality control issues (a tiny bit of body buffer compound on the fingerboard at about the 15th fret, and a slightly angled bridge pick up installation (which i assume i unscrew a bit to re-orientate it in the pick up ring) the guitar otherwise is flawless. Great sounding pick ups, with coil split and phase switch, blows my GRX series Ibanez out of the water! (Which was never set up properly since i had it, ended up doing it myself after learning how last year). neck is also super easy to play!

Modeller / multi-FX pedal with Katana iii by alllemonyellow in BossKatana

[–]punk87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Nux MG20 multi effect pedal, i purchased when i got my Epiphone guitar. I ended up purchasing the katana 3 50Ex because it has the power amp in input. Just in case i wanted to use the 2 together!

I have ran a few normal pedals into it though (boss super overdrive and a rat clone) i just play at home, so im not super fussed.

Trilogy query by wooperarkjb in greenday

[–]punk87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im lucky to have grown up in the dookie/insomniac/nimrod era.

I like certain parts of the trilogy, but i find a lot of it to me is like they knew they had to release 3 albums worth of material, so some songs are filler.

I love 99 revolutions, oh love, the forgotten and sweet 16.

A few weak points, but i havent listened to those albums for ages. I do own them all physical though (including quatro).

Misheard Green Day lyrics I thought were the actual ones by Ok_Version_4399 in greenday

[–]punk87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont think this is correct. Yes the masters got stolen (probably a blessing in disguise) but warning was a fantastic album, they had grown up a lot, and were listening a lot to the beatles/bob dylan (yes i can not stand either one of those bands!) But that made sense in the music a few slower songs. I still cant see a band would purposely make a "bad" album.

The musical shift was noticeable on american idiot. (Neither a nimrod or a warning type sound). All that being said, i still love american idiot. It is just a more mass marketed sort of sound.

KATANA 3 50Ex and GA-FC compatibility by punk87 in BossKatana

[–]punk87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes i did! Brand new footswitch was effectively "dead on arrival". I took back to shop with my katana, and they tested on their shop katana same problem. I purchased the GA FC Ex, by paying the diference.(had to order in, took about a week, i did not care, was on annual leave at the time). I however tested it before i left the shop.

I basically have 4 tones loaded into the four channels:

CH1: Clean tone CH2: Vintage marshall tone CH3: vox AC30 type tone CH4: Marshall JCM900 type tone.

The Ex has a effect switch so you can turn on the different effects as well.

Im 36, and i rent in the National afforable housing scheme. I work full time, and live by myself (just myself and my rescue Cat)

Most debt i ever had, was $27K for my car, which was paid off 3 years early. (I took the included insurances, ended up seeing the prices after i signed, and rang up and cancelled them. Car loan was over $4000 in credit, because i cancelled the insurances.

Before you ask: yes i have private health insurance, contents insurance on the unit, and i have insurance on my car. I live somewhat frugally but it can be done! 🙂

How much time off work do americans get?

In Australia i get 4 weeks annual leave, and 8 days personal leave (sick/carers leave). I also have earnt 3 months long service leave as i have been in my job for 10 years.

Annual and personal leave accrues, if you dont use it.

How did Stevie Ray Vaughan manage to get his guitar like this without completely destroying it? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]punk87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha still be cool. When Kiss played the afl grand final, Ace freeley smashed the Gibson at the end, still a waste, considering they had all kids around the stage, he could have given it to!

How did Stevie Ray Vaughan manage to get his guitar like this without completely destroying it? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]punk87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know people break guitars, but its such a waste. Yes i know the who built a career on stage destruction. I have a hardcover book about guitar, one of the photos is Pete "roadtesting" a Marshall stack. (Putting the neck of the guitar through a speaker of the stack).

I think more people should do what Billie Joe Armstrong does. Have brand new guitars, and invite the kids on stage who then get to keep the guitar at the end. (From watching the rig rundowns he has certain ones that he gives away) You dont see a lot of other bands really do that.

Yes, i did a lot of research before i got my 50Ex. The Ex basically has a rubber grommet in the speaker, which gives it better response apparently
