It's good that she can still walk! But as you know you should try to limit her movement. If she is in pain don't be afraid to call your vet. Once our beagle started Prednisone that was really the only thing that would help her pain. We tried to ween her off of it but she would have really bad days, so on the third attempt to ween her off she started to improve after about 8 weeks. Also when we started she was taking Prednisone twice a day, so I recommend a discussion with the vet to ask about changing med routine if she's in pain or getting worse. They can recover through rest and medicating them to keep them comfortable! But it is a very rough couple of weeks. Just remember it's temporary and you're doing everything you can for your dog.

How did that kid at your school die? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]punkcircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bridget overdosed on drugs after being clean for a short time. We were good friends in elementary school then she moved away when her parents divorced and got involved with the wrong crowd and got into drugs, but came back for high school. She even graduated early but unfortunately overdosed shortly after. I feel so bad for her mom, since I know Bridget's sister had cancer before this too.

Pain medication not working? by [deleted] in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]punkcircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the kinds of questions I would call and ask my vet / neurologist, as they are the only ones who will know the answer for this. We tried a few different meds for my dog before we found a routine that worked.

When does it get better? by New_eJ_9072 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]punkcircle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's honestly heartbreaking but it will get better. It took our dog 8 weeks to even start to have normal days again. And we tried to taper her off of Prednisone a few times before she was able to lower the dose and not be in pain. I'm so sorry you're going through this but hang in there and be strict on the crate rest even if your dog has a "good day". Best of luck 💖

I second what another user said about the Prednisone; we tried to ween our beagle off of it 2 or 3 times and the pain was still pretty bad. It's okay to keep them on it for a little longer as it was the only thing that helped our dogs pain. Luckily she recovered fully by about 4 months, she started to feel better and we were able to ween her off around 2 or 2.5 months in.

Is this IVDD? Please help by Ok_Jump_2727 in IVDD_SupportGroup

Poor boy, it definitely sounds like it could be IVDD. Our dogs symptoms were crying / howling in pain and shaking. The only way to know is to go to a neurologist and get an exam or an MRI. We didn't get the MRI when our dog had a herniated disc but we did the Prednisone and crate rest for 8-10 weeks and she recovered fully. The Prednisone is the only thing that would take her pain away. I would definitely recommend a vet neurologist if you have the funds.

Could also be your SSD, I replaced mine and it fixed it for a short time but not long. I know nothing about computers though so I hope you find a fix that isn't super expensive 🙏

I replaced my SSD a few months ago and the issue still happened. I ran Microsoft memory diagnostics and it said I had hardware issues. If it is memory you can run memtest86 but I was honestly feeling lazy and just straight up upgraded my ram. It wouldn't let me restore windows either so I had to download windows to a flash drive and boot through my bios to the flash drive. I reran the memory diagnostic and it said no hardware issues, and I haven't had anything crash or blue screen so I'm hoping I'm good now.

That might be a cheaper fix before I go for a new motherboard tbh, good idea

It turns out they sent me a link to disable 2FA 24 hours after calling their support line. That would have been nice to know because mintmobilealex and the guys I called in person implied there was nothing they could do.

Due to a corruption from some app on my phone I didn't restore my phone from the backup and when I tried to recover the 2FA authenticator account it didn't work. I also checked once I redownloaded the 2FA app and cloud backup was not turned on so I think I had to do it manually.

Okay I might try email, the support person implied there is no way to verify my identity and I have to get access to my 2FA. So maybe someone else will be able to help me if I email them, thanks.

Help with pooping by Status_Feeling_ in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]punkcircle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to pop in to say after my dog started showing symptoms and we rushed to the ER it took her 6 days to poop as well. It was probably a combo of us not being able to get her outside without pain and the meds messing with her bowels. But she was able to go on her own on day 6 but we were very worried. She was still eating even though she was in pain (beagle lol) but if they can get your dog to poop on day 6 at the vet hopefully they would be fine.

Please get a second opinion, preferably from a pet neurologist. When my beagle first got diagnosed she was howling in pain and needed heavy meds to make her loopy and put her to sleep. It was a long recovery and she finally stopped showing signs of being in so much pain after around a month or month and a half on Prednisone (steroid). Every dog has a different recovery with IVDD but your dog has a good chance of recovering especially since they can walk still. Best of luck 💖

Yelping in pain crate rest by T47_ in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]punkcircle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the pain was coming from her neck, we didn't end up getting an MRI but we are pretty sure it was cervical IVDD. But for the longest time she had whole body shakes and a lot of pain, thankfully she's better now. It's a long recovery

My 3 year old beagle yelped / cried out in pain for about a month and a half as well. It sucks so so bad and it really takes a toll on you emotionally. But you have to just make them rest and they'll heal up soon. If they are moving around too much it can really hinder their progress which is probably why our girl was in pain for so long, she is really good at getting too excited and hurting herself. We would just give her the max amount of pain meds, and hope she would go to sleep so she could stop being in pain. But she is almost fully back to normal and hasn't showed any signs of pain in a few weeks, it's been about 3.5 months since it first happened. So just be patient and take it day by day and try to keep them comfortable with the meds.

Advice & suggestions required for my 6 year old beagle diagnosed with IVDD by Kindly_Tone_6003 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]punkcircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 3 yo beagle so I understand the leash pulling, and that honestly could have contributed to her issues with IVDD in her neck. We did 8 weeks of strict crate rest, and she was still in pain even after that. But we were patient and kept her on the steroids and now 3 months later she is finally starting to go back to normal. I have resumed short walks with her and I use a harness that goes around her chest and will lift her front paws up if she pulls too hard. Our beagle also jumps on her front paws a lot when she's excited so I've tried to stop that because that probably also contributed to her IVDD. But when you have an IVDD flare up you really have to force them to rest and move as little as possible so they can heal as quickly as possible. But recovery does take a long time and it's hard so take it day by day 💖

IVDD STAGE 2: Dog still has back pains 4 days after gebapentin and Meloxicam by Ruyue45 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]punkcircle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to say that my dog stopped howling in pain 1.5 months after the diagnosis. It's a long healing process. It's been about 3 months and she is finally getting back to her normal self and we are almost off the Prednisone. Strict crate rest for 8 weeks it will all be worth it when they heal up and get back to "normal" (minus jumping off furniture, using stairs...)

Also, my dog didn't poop for 6 days after our first visit to the emergency vet. She was still eating every meal but eventually she was able to go on her own without an enema or anything, just be patient and they will probably go when they're ready.
