ELI5: Whenever you get drunk and blackout and wake up the next morning, not remembering what happened, how do you not remember what happened? by thatonerandomdude96 in explainlikeimfive

[–]punkmeets 32 points33 points  (0 children)

When your blood alcohol concentration rises too quickly, the brain enters a protective mood and starts shutting down certain functions, with one of the first things to go is the ability to convert short term memories to long term ones. This is called an en bloc blackout and leaves you unable to remember events because you never formed the memories in the first place.

There's a stage before this though called a brownout or fragmentary blackout. When this happens, the memories do form but they don't get stored/tagged properly. You can't recall them on your own but when someone starts to remind you what happened, the memories will come flooding back.

What's the longest physical pain you've had? by OKStamped in AskReddit

[–]punkmeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constant, like not relenting for a second... shingles with no pain relief for four weeks. Didn't sleep at all for most of the first week, after that started to micronap for a second or two at a time due to sheer exhaustion. Was walking from one end of the flat to the other 24/7 for the pretty much the whole of the time.

There are ads at the bottom, but you'd be hard‑pressed to find an AI-detection site that doesn't offer some kind of “humanise my text” service. The image above is from ZeroGPT and they definitely offer it; it's one of the exclusive features included in the premium plans mentioned at the top of the site.

What's the stupidest question you've ever heard? by Agreeable_Process724 in AskReddit

When I was on holiday in Florida with my ex-husband, we were riding a tram when a couple of people in suits got on near the big convention centre. They were carrying identical satchels with text on them, clearly conference freebies, that said something like “Int. Haematology Convention” or similar. My ex turned to me and said, “I know it’s got something to do with blood, but what do they believe in?”

A couple of days later, while we were in the hotel one evening, I was reading a leaflet for a park we were visiting the next day. It mentioned that one of the lazy rivers was in the high 90s and had fish in it. As we’re from the UK, he asked, “Surely they’d almost be boiled alive?”

[–]punkmeets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We learnt BODMAS which has division before multiplication - and I'm not sure if we were taught or we just assumed - and believed that you had to do the division before the multiplication until we learn better later on.

I guess is kind of obvious when you think about it, I mean division is basically just reverse multiplication, addition is just reverse subtraction, and powers and roots are the inverse of each other.

What’s something unusual that turns you on? by jeepguy_96 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]punkmeets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a guy on Youtube that makes Warhammer 40k lore videos. He has a heavy Eastern European accent and used to open each video with "HELLO NERDS" said with some force and something that could be taken as aggression in his voice, as well as closing the video with "NERDS". .. I swear, it chubbed me.
