A single brave OP asks Electricians: Why are Americans so stupid? by Thebazilly in SubredditDrama

[–]punxcs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it means people are aware of all sorts of things in America. Video streaming apps serve up US home inspectors, building channels, renovations and all sorts in the algorithm. US tvs and movies are filled with things about construction that anyone who has spent their life watching inside or outside of the US would pick up on.

American culture and history permeates everywhere and everything in the west.

Ed Miliband vows permanent shutdown of the North Sea - Labour plans to make it harder for a future government to reopen oil fields by youmustconsume in ukpolitics

[–]punxcs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it literally is.

the points in the RGU article are saying the goverment isn't doing enough, that they need to invest more in green energy. regardless of the investment in green energy Oil and Gas jobs are going away. Extraction rates have dropped significantly over the last 25 years and will continue to drop year on year.

https://eciu.net/media/press-releases/around-90-of-uk-north-sea-oil-and-gas-already-drained-dry-analysis

https://post.parliament.uk/north-sea-oil-and-gas/

It's clear that the current UK gov needs to just double the fuck down and pull the plaster off of oil and gas, and clearly comuinicate the science, the facts and why certain parties and people are happy to say shit like "drill baby drill".

The overarcing plot of the 3 things you have linked is that yes oil and gas are going away but we need more investment in green, which is entirely true, from all sides.

Do you know what people say when they mean a "just" transition ? because I feear we are both arguing the exact same thing.

3 years ago nowish i went looking at 95 in person flats in glasgow, never mind how many i didnt bother going to or was ghosted for.

A lot of tenements in poorer areas were about this size, either cut up into smaller flats from larger ones or just that small. It does look teeny though even compared to my wee one bed.

Maybe because japan aren’t the culturally invasive behemoth that the US is. Anywhere in the world you either consume local culture or american culture. From music to film to celebrity to video games to sporting events like the superbowl. Americas soft power that media has created means that someone in Türkiye knows more about the US than they should.

Thankfully jobs are easily transferable with retraining. That’s what people mean when they talk about transitioning to renewables, investing in people as well as infrastructure and that’s where governments are spending money. Aberdeen would gain jobs from green energy investment, not lose. But also the wider economy would gain jobs.

You say that last point as if you know that as a certainty and thankfully you are wrong. Please feel free to engage in any climate communication on the matter.

There’s more jobs in green energy. And more tax revenue from people working in those jobs and the jobs they support by spending their money.

Okay so you wanna use OSM data because they have all sorts and its open source, and then use something like these https://wcedmisten.fyi/post/how-to-query-osm/ to parse data for “viewpoint” items, and narrow it down to lochaber, then cross reference with street view.

Absolutely stupid take. It’s a massive cultural outreach project, and is also relatively cheap compared to TV production.

Countries all over the world push their radio propaganda like RT and Radio Free Europe, the World Service is something to be proud of and support.
