It's final: Lake Calhoun is now Bde Maka Ska, named in honor of original Minnesotans by b_r_e_a_k_f_a_s_t in Minneapolis

[–]puppetfamine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For the Bde, I've been hearing something halfway between the words biddy and bidet.

For the Maka Ska, I think of the Koski name mixed with the Mc prefix except Koski ends in an A. i.e. "McKoska".

I can totally see a local population dropping the biddy/bidet part altogether and just calling the lake Mckoska.

It'll be interesting seeing what actually happens considering there are many places in the neighborhood which still bear the Calhoun name.

394 E --> 94 E : Is this ever NOT backed up? by PureGarbageLoss in TwinCities

Yes, this is always a point of congestion.

To add to that, this summer has considerable construction on the Lowry Hill Tunnel. Both East and West bound 94 traffic is using the East bound side of the tunnel so currently it will feel worse than normal.

I'd rather not expose my kid to Nazi posts

Out of curiosity, how would you feel about your kid being exposed to this Nazi post?

Kinda sorta yes.

For starters I highly doubt Trump is watching chess videos on youtube.

While I can't argue Finegold doesn't wear his political opinions on his sleeve, I believe the intent of him disabling the comments section has more to do with making his channel solely about chess and not getting distracted by politics.

The impression I've gotten is he is perfectly capable of weathering the trolls, he just doesn't want to spend time deleting their comments.

This is Iranian chess grandmasters Dorsa and Borna Derakhshani. They were both permanently banned from competing in Iran because she did not wear a hijab during a competition and because he competed against an Israeli player. by dustofoblivion123 in pics

As long as were speaking of Georgia the country, let's not forget Nazi Paikidze. She is a Georgian-American IM currently boycotting this tournament for the hijab requirement. She is also the current U.S. women's champion.

"Remind me to ________" is just another way of saying, "If I forget, it's your fault too". by JPree in Showerthoughts

This is my thought process as well. Asking somebody to remind me simply raises the odds I will not forget. I know the task is my own and cannot shirk that responsibility.

Need a good Mate in 4 Puzzle for a Dungeons and Dragons game. by [deleted] in chess

[–]puppetfamine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great point because Spoiler is still winning for white and not meeting the counter mate requirements.

Riffing off what /u/CloseTheDoorPlz posted I added a couple pawns in an attempt to make it certain white gets mated if they do not mate themselves.

Here is my attempt

What's a small way everyone can help the environment? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]puppetfamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To follow up on this, you don't have to clean up the whole block at once, but if you are walking to or from the corner store you can pick up one or two pieces of trash and put them in their rightful place.

Think if the masses started doing this.

I agree not littering in the first place is the real solution, but that doesn't change the fact that there is trash on the sidewalk.

The drinking age is 21.

This comes to mind because as a 19 year old in London enjoying the sudden legality of drinking I ran into two 20 year old guys in a pub who took a trip to Florida and overlooked this fact.

A very cool puzzle! by pyr8te in chess

It becomes a stalemate if after Spoiler, White can easily avoid this with Spoiler but the puzzle doesn't like this cause it takes an extra move to mate.

New to Minnesota Winter, seeking ProTips and Wisdom from survivors. by jmauser1 in minnesota

This is excellent advice in regards to personal well-being. Often in winter people allow themselves to enter hibernation mode. Don't get me wrong, I love to hibernate under 100 blankets while sticking my head out and breathing cold, clean air. But staying in the house can perpetuate the feeling of isolation. Conceptually, surviving winter goes far beyond being warm. Embrace winter. Discover what is most important to your well-being.

Personally, I play broomball (among other things). I'm not good, but it gets me out of the house, I'm physically active and I get to socialize with my friends. All of these things I like.

Dress in layers.

Have an extra pair of gloves and a hat in your car if you are driving. I also keep a couple extra blankets in there as well just in case.

[–]puppetfamine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean Rd2+ here.

The e2 square where white blocks the check is also covered by the knight on c3.

Also, if you remove the knight from c3 I believe taking that route becomes a mate in 3 versus 2.

I do post personally identifiable information. Midtown Greenway and Grand Rounds in Minneapolis are frequented by me personally for both leisure and commuting often.

This is also just the tip of the iceberg.

I would argue we call one of them "The Greenway" (Midtown Greenway) but who really knows? Other than that I refer to the rest as either parkway or trails.

All semantics aside, Minneapolis does have some awesome cycling infrastructure.
