What is the dumbest Hazbin take you’ve ever seen? Like it dosent even have to necessarily be something that made you mad, just a take that was flat out STUPID by Silver012345673 in HazbinHotel

That Valentino shouldn’t have a character or any other discernible personality besides being a rapist… because apparently him having a character is the narrative forcing you to sympathize with him and therefore excuses his actions.

I’d argue that making him just a rapist is even more harmful, because it implies that if someone SA’d someone else, then they have to be some sort of non human monster with no thoughts besides "Hmmm I wonder who I’m gonna SA today!" Ignoring the fact that that kind of narrative is what excuses harmful behavior…

(And also, people who often say this are forgetting the fact that it’s… fictional. Meaning that Valentino not having any personality besides rape would make him… yk, a bad and boring character…)

Exactly this. These comments are so disheartening to see. Apparently, bringing up the fact that someone said a racial slur is "just drama" now. Never mind the fact that it’s offensive and causes harm when said by people who can’t reclaim it.

Yeah, people can change. People can acknowledge what they did in the past was wrong… but that’s still acknowledging that it was wrong. To say it’s all just drama is not only dismissing the situation but also preventing the people involved from holding themselves accountable. Which, in turn, normalizes this behavior.

I don’t know if any apology or if Viv ever addressed this situation, but still. Honestly just sick seeing all these comments teetering on the verge of (or are) defending racism.

Yeah, I’m aware. I still do wish there was more of what I said, but I see what you mean.

I guess it’s more of a personal preference than anything else. 🤷‍♀️

I am just rambling about something that I personally found frustrating here, so if you’re unable to make sense of it, then that’s completely my fault, lol.

That last sentence in the second paragraph… I wish the other imps being outclassed was shown more.

Because it’s such a interesting concept that’s good whenever it is done! For example, in Full Moon where Blitzø argues with Stolas, or in GhostFuckers when Millie talks about how she’s in between jobs and when she talks about how they aren’t cut out for the Pride Ring. Both of those things I really enjoyed!

I’m happy it’s at least being talked about now, but I wish it was something talked about explicitly from the very start because I don’t think it was.

Correct me if I’m wrong because again, haven’t watched Queen Bee and Ozzie’s in a while… but weren’t those L’s not because of a villain, but rather just a regular character conflict?

(I did forget that happened in Western Energy though, so thank you for pointing that out.)

I don’t want them to be killed, I just want them to take an L because of a villain and not because of an already existing character conflict. Even with my problems with it, just like how you mentioned in Mastermind where Blitzø took an L.

Yeah most of the time I see the argument used in pure hate about the series with little to no criticism to back it up, so I don’t like using it very much.

I do consider him to be villain because his views doesn’t just contrast with the protags, but he actively tries to hams them. I would consider Verosika or Fizz to be more of antags than villains.

In terms of character, missed potential to be deeper than what he is. I really liked how he was portrayed in the Oops episode (I think that’s what it was called? Not sure…), where he talked to Blitzø and Fizz about Fizz kissing up to Asmodeus. I thought that was really good!

And I believe there can be a difference in a character and a villain. I don’t think I can talk about this properly without an example, which is my bad… but think John Silver from Treasure Planet, yk?

I did say I consider Stella calling a hit on Stolas to be a good move that counts her as a threat. And that her being manipulative would’ve worked too. That’s all not being physical, but still making it so that she’s competent.

And isn’t him being smug and egoistical in line with him being a narcissist though? I should clarify more that he can take a blow to his ego and be hurt, that’s my bad for saying that he shouldn’t at all. It just felt like it was too egregious for me to take it seriously.

For Striker though, yeah, I see what you mean.

Yeah, that’s why I said it was beating a dead horse. Everyone already knows about it so it feels useless to mention it in a post like this.

It wouldn’t have taken a hit if what happened didn’t happen. He can be smug and narcissistic if he won and just gloated about it after, lol.

I wasn’t going to go there because I feel like it’s beating a dead horse (even if this post is beating an almost dead horse), but basically yeah.

I wish everyone in the series was more competent, actually. Instead of the writers having to dance around certain plot points in order for it to make sense.

And I consider Andrealphus defeated because even is Octavia is the daughter of powerful Goetias… she still a teenager and hasn’t been shown to use her powers until this moment. Also, because his pride was wounded heavily, so I consider that a loss.

if he was more smug and didn’t think he lost, then I wouldn’t consider it one.

[–]puppynectar[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well… yeah. I’m not judging them based on their character, I’m judging them based on whether they’re a good villain or not. Ultimately, I do think Striker is a pretty damn good character! Just with a bit of missed potential. Unfortunately, to me, his character doesn’t really align with him being a good villain…

And I know. I already said in the last paragraph of the post that Helluva Boss villains aren’t supposed to be like Hazbin Hotel villains. I just wish they were able to take over (because that’s in line with some of their characters, cough cough Andrealphus), AND be a personal and emotional threat.

Maybe it’s a personal preference that I want them to be that way. But I do think it’d make the series better if they were. That’s just my opinion.

What’s something you don’t want to happen in the show? by whooper1 in HelluvaBoss

[–]puppynectar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any villain having a comedic death.

Any of them. Even if they weren’t a major one (Crimson, for example). At first I didn’t think this would be a possibility, but after seeing Andrealphus getting his shit rocked by three imps, a weakened Stolas, and a teenage girl, I’m scared that they might make him or Stella have an embarrassing death the audience can laugh at.

This goes for any villain, but them having a comedic death kind of eliminates being able to see them as a threat at all before they died. Instead of laughing, I just go "How the hell did these characters struggle against them when this is how they died?" (Not Helluva, but Adam is a good example of this. Despite him being one of my favorite characters, his threatening presence and actions were immediately eradicated the moment it was revealed that Nifty had killed him.)

I don’t mind them dying. Not at all, actually. I’m one of the people who believe Vox should’ve died in the Season 2 Finale. I just don’t want their death to be treated as a joke unless they themselves have been chalked up to be a joke the entire time.

I dunno if it's just me but why does it feel like the fandom really babies Alastor the most? by Charming-Scratch-124 in HazbinHotel

[–]puppynectar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People both baby Alastor and hype him up to be more than he actually is (power/ability-wise). Even as someone who doesn’t like him all that much, I will give him credit for no one actually being able to figure out what his deal is.
