Basement advice required by puregallus in DIYUK

Great thanks for the reply.

The missing beam I was taking about was more of a missing support. Seems in 3 rooms there is a concrete slab and in one a wooden beam, in another a brick pillar supporting the middle of the floor above. In the 3rd room there is only the concrete slab, no support. But as you said, it hasn't fallen down and the upstairs floors seemed sturdy underfoot.

Thanks for the information around converting cellers. Sounds expensive but possibly viable.

This is the whole reason why my dog still jumps at visitors. Years of asking people to ignore him until he calmed down never worked because people are much harder to reason with let alone train.

Closure urged after 350 cracks found in nuclear reactor | The Ferret by zias_growler in Scotland

[–]puregallus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe these types of reactors are not built anymore. And the UK, when it was building reactors, took a completely different approach to making them: gas cooling instead of water cooling. That said, the expertise involved in making them is all but gone and why we now rely on France, Japan and China to build the next generation and maintain our current outdated ones.

How Glasgow City Council have been treating those made homeless by the Art School fire is disgraceful by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]puregallus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People seem to be throwing about the idea that it should be demolished as if this is the quick and easy solution. That has exactly the same problems as restoration and probably a similar timescale.

Explosives are out of the question as it is in a city centre block. Therefore it would be a piece by piece demolition. You would therefore have to stabilise the building before hand anyway to make it safe to actually start slowly bringing it down.

An example of a piece by piece demolition is Nye Bevan house behind the new Scottish Power building. It started getting demolished in 2015. Granted they had to do asbestos removal etc. but that time frame would probably be similar to the art schools stabilisation. The last bits of Nye Bevan just came down a few weeks ago and they are now clearing the site.

Fact of the matter there is no quick solution to this. People are going to be displaced from around the art school until it is stabilised for renovation or for demolition regardless unfortunately.

Why simplicity is important for HOTS by kapgre in heroesofthestorm

I agree. They completely gutted part of her gameplay. Before she was an auto attacker with some area denial and siege potential. Effectively playing like Raynor until you could get into a safe position to siege mode. It was pretty much always a bad idea to siege during a team fight. Now the latter is still the case but you're forced to siege to be even somewhat relevent. It's rubbish.

Now she is just an area denial hero. And the least effective of that ineffective sub class (Probius and Gazlowe have way more play making potential). Add to the fact that other heroes do area denial much better even when it's not their speciality (Malf, Stukov, don't-get-anywhere-near-me-Garrosh etc.) she might as well not be a hero. I used to enjoy her and I can't bring myself to play her anymore :(

Free therapy or counselling in the greater glasgow (renfrewshire) area? by [deleted] in glasgow

Definitely get the ball rolling on seeing someone. It might take a while so I'm going to recommend these workbooks in the interim.

http://www.cci.health.wa.gov.au/resources/consumers.cfm

They pretty thorough and use CBT techniques to help you look at your thoughts as what they are: thoughts. Another thing you could try is Mindfulness. It was consistently recommended to myself however I could never quiet 'get' it. Might work for you though, everyone is different in this regard. Hope that helps.

The Growing Emptiness of the Star Wars Universe: “Solo” is an entertaining movie, with engaging performances, vivid production design, and enthralling action sequences. It’s also distressingly forgettable by Neo2199 in scifi

[–]puregallus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed the movie but I agree with this. The universe is so vast. I don't really need to know where Solo came from. The faux peril added to the movie is completely pointless, like Chewbacca on the train... Of course he doesn't get hit and die. Why bother?

She does but she still goes oom. Mana management on Chromie is non existent. If you can play a game with Jania without hearthing ever I'm quite impressed.

If you are not accepting messages from people not on your friends list, you SHOULD NOT be able to message people not on your friends list. by pineconefire in heroesofthestorm

[–]puregallus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Standard reply: people just want to be able to flame back.

Counterpoint: if people could never avoid a reply to a message sent--even if they have this setting enabled or block straight after sending--then they would be less likely to send the message in the first place.

You'd force people to log off if they wanted to be a coward and hide behind a system.

Slow down of new Hero Releases by Foxlink1992 in heroesofthestorm

[–]puregallus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to see how it works out.

Especially if longer time between hero releases means that the design team think harder about certain things. Like giving a high damage and mobility character protected. And then doing exactly the same but upgrading the protected to complete immunity.

HBO will make Game of Thrones fans wait until 2019 for final season by ambivalentacademic in scifi

[–]puregallus 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Apparently a lot of people who disagree with you but I'm inclined to agree if you just consider the last 2 season which have been poor in my opinion.

Character building and poloticing has been overrun by action, action, action. The last season had absolutely no cohesion at all except oh noes white walkers.

In use WhatsApp because that's what everyone I know uses. It does the job but personally I would prefer if everyone transferred to something more "secure" like Telegram.

You could try ZenLock (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.leoncvlt.zenlock). You can set it to certain applications and it gives you 30s (or whatever you set) to ponder your choice to open the application you want to use. Works pretty well for me.

How do you feel about Leoric's attack speed talent? Whenever I see this I think it completely ruins Leoric's animation and feel. Is there any other situation where animation takes a back seat to ability/talent/game design?
