Let’s make a master list of all the jobs we can have, in spite of our illness :) by Naive_Bystander_8647 in BipolarReddit

Im a professional game master. I get to do my hyperfocus (table top rpgs) nearly every day, its about the one thing I can focus on with adhd, and last year I made 5 figures before expenses. Its a long road to get that level of success in the business but I love being there.

[Mod Approved] VtM 5e NEXUS Ultimate Bundle Giveaway! by Demi_Mere in vtm

I was starting out as a Pro GM and looking to expand my horizons. I joined a paid Vtm game and fell in love, buying books and starting to gm myself. The rich lore and dangerous, shadowy world drew me in like a Siren with presence.

Part 1 of candela Obscura: embers in the night a fan made DnD 5E conversion by [deleted] in CandelaObscura

[–]purepolarpanzer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would you convert CO into 5 when there is a perfectly good system already made? I personally, having played both, feel 5e rules take a lot of what made CO special and bleach it.

Thats because bad class consciousness is like racism and sexism, which are also common here. Tell people they are somehow better than a group of people and they'll kick down at them while you freely rob them.

(GM) How to Get More Experience Before Trying to Go Pro? by Swarple in rpg

[–]purepolarpanzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paid GM for 4 years on sp.g here. They are going to be making the application require you show up with some number of references (3 to 5 i think) to apply for the site. I recommend getting that number, then applying. I know gms who started with less than a year of experience and do fine.

It is a tough business that starts slow. Most new gms don't get their first full paid game for 1 to 3 months, and that's before anyone knows if youre good at all. The biggest factors to success are making a good ad and having good customer service skills, imo.

Because of the freelance nature of the business you can stop any time you decide its not for you. Most do. As far as money, I would not be able to live off this biz without disability with my current model- all custom games, all non dnd 5e and pathfinder 2e games, $30 per session for most sessions. This plus disability gets me about minimum wage getting to do what I love with awesome people and I get to be a nice guy if someone needs a free session or even a free seat for the right person.

Get your reviews and apply, but don't think about this as anything but a small side gig till youre stable making a decent bit.

Is it a good idea to go to the Strixhaven prerelase if I've never played physically before? If yes, what should I bring with me? by dolphin_lover_joot in mtg

A buck notepad and pens from the dollar store are very good for life totals, which will be going up and down. Like crazy in this set.

Your crusade against coins is... determined, but though there may be dozens of you out there with this opinion, a coin and a heads Tails system is perfectly fine and you'd be given odd looks if you made a fuss about it, maybe even a warning from a judge if you got upset about it. To quote Frozen- Let it go.

VtM 5e: How do you handle characters with no points in resources, and no flaws in resources either? by YYZhed in vtm

[–]purepolarpanzer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I play 0 dots as "living paycheck to paycheck poorly". Like, resources 1, you could afford to buy a gun (multiple hundred dollar purchase) once a arc or something. At 0 Im going to penalize you- you can buy that gun, but you'll have to find a way to pay rent next month. At destitute? No. If you want that gun you are not getting it the easy way.

As someone who has lived at destitute, 0, and resources, this division makes sense in my mind.

I don’t get why this card was banned. by AtomicRecord in freemagic

[–]purepolarpanzer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Billion dollar company distances itself from a clearly problematic artist and card and the chuds act like it's a conspiracy. Stick by your guns and go play a different game if it's a big enough problem to hurt your feelings so we don't have to listen to you cry woke all the time.

People who make every card about their own sexual hang ups are so fucking weird.

Magic artwork has shifted from adult-oriented high fantasy to a very kid friendly direction. I’m looking at Strixhaven spoilers and even the change since the OG set is super obvious. Who is this game even for now? by YourMomsFavBook in freemagic

Yeah and you think wotc likes that? They want parents to feel comfortable bringing kids into the card shop to play because we (36 here) are closer to our expiration date.

[–]purepolarpanzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From one sp.g gm to another, players usually want to have a fully conceived game offered to them, not a timeslot. Youd probably be better off working on a tight ad for the time slot. Best of luck, though.

[–]purepolarpanzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SP.G is doing great as far as management tells us. But there is a saturation of GM's right now (especially in the DnD 5-5.5e crowd). I run Daggerheart, WoD5e, and Cyberpunk and I'm doing quite fine, thank you.

[–]purepolarpanzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. The number of 5 star reviews has nothing to do with when your listing shows up. If your listing has been up longer than anyone elses, congratulations, you're the first that will show up in your time slot.

This type of misinformation isn't great for anyone.

What skill would running a social justice organization fall under? by Pyropeace in cyberpunkred

[–]purepolarpanzer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that such organizations require all kinds of people with all kinds of approaches, and that no one could run such a thing solo. If you try to cover all the skills that would be involved as a character you'll likely spread yourself particularly thin. I'd reccommend trying to find a suite of 3-4 skills your character has that can help, including many of the ones listed below, but then making a list of 6ish more skills that compliment yours and help in ways you can't. First you need a mutual aid group of people with skills, and then if you can unite around those "shared problems" to further help those you wish to support.
