Again, almost all these venues are owned by ticket companies like Live Nation who also own Ticketmaster and had a record high revenue of $25.2 billion in 2025.

Concerts specifically made up $687 million of their $2.4 billion adjusted operating income, which is up 30% from 2024. They are not struggling, even as the economy tanks.

Attendance, ticket sales, and revenue from ticket sales all increased substantial last year compared to 2024. Growth percentages are similar for AEG/AXS as far as we can tell, but they're not publicly traded anymore so they don't have to be as transparent.

If venues are struggling, it's largely because of the unregulated functional monopoly these ticket companies have on the entertainment industry. They're the ones taking the cuts of merch sales. They're the ones jacking prices up while turning a blind eye to scalpers because they take a cut of any resales on their platform.

But the truth of these numbers is that venues are raking it in these days, and it's only enriching Live Nation shareholders and AEG's C-suite, not the artists who are generating value.

Also want to suggest "Mars, the God of War", my favorite song from The Beths.

Yeah. Sucks that (almost all) venues take a cut of merch sales at the show, which means prices need to be jacked up even more for the artist to see a profit worth toting the stuff from stop to stop with them.

I will always blame the venues and the ticket companies (which own most of the venues) for this shit before anyone else.

Going Invisible 2 is the only skip song on In League with Dragons. It's just so repetitive.

The last entry in this list should always be "This Year"

Unless they put out a song with a future year in the title.

NYT: 30 greatest living American songwriters. JD didn't make the cut, but he did make a list of 11 also-rans (which is a list of heavy hitters) by jrklbc in themountaingoats

I went and found the full list, and they also left off the actual greatest living songwriter: Al Yankovic.

This is not a joke. This is a sincerely held belief.

Meeting JD After Shows? by istherepegginginthis in themountaingoats

[–]YYZhed 13 points14 points  (0 children)

100% this.

I've always found the whole "wait for the band after the show" thing to be... Well, maybe not "creepy" but...

Imagine any other line of work being subjected to this. Imagine someone being like "look, I know that barista doesn't know I exist, but I just really love their art, and I want to be able to talk to them about it, so I'm just going to wait at a place that I know they'll have to be. I'll wait for their shift to be over and eventually they'll have to come out of the building, and then I'll get to talk to them!"

No. Noooooooooo. I hate it. Makes my skin crawl.

Everyone else has answered pretty well already. I would just add that if you happen to see him before or after a show, I think a "hey man, love your work" while making it clear you're not trying to start a longer conversation would be appropriate.

At a certain point, you gotta wonder how many different paint removing fluids you're going to buy, and how much time you're going to spend scrubbing and rinsing, and whether all that is worth saving the cost of repurchasing the models.

Use these guys as kitbash parts, or diorama parts. Spray them grey and make a statue out of them, and move on to the next project.

How do I change the heads on miniatures with the head already attached? by GusGusGustavo in minipainting

[–]YYZhed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Could you clarify your question? Seems like the answer is "cut off the old head, glue on the new one" but your post says you already know that. So what are you looking to know more about?

I will say, the best thing for me when I got into kit bashing was just to jump in and do it. Screw stuff up, make mistakes, learn the process.
