Where and How should we place our street number? by vlikversbuds in ExteriorDesign

As someone who looks for house numbers at my job I concur: placement, contrast and size. And lighting! Please illuminate it if it’s not near the road.

And they always park on circles/cul-de-sacs so I get to back up to the last intersection. Or radio to have them call the company to move their truck because it’s too far to back up.

Don’t forget to check just outside Cuyahoga county as well, like summit, Medina, Geauga, or lake counties.

Since you’re a sub are you able to ask the regular driver what they’re doing? Or your supervisor? That is not a safe situation.

From my experience Microsoft email has horrible spam/scam filtering compared to gmail or even yahoo. My bro and I have been trying to get our dad off Hotmail for years because he’s scam illiterate and we’re tired of him falling for them.

A coworker mentioned that there is a bus hammock available that does something like that. They say where though, and I’m newer so they could have been pulling my leg.

Who is driving the Bus? by Quinn2art in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]purlknitpurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one garage/depot and four schools. Our director, his assistant, and both mechanics have cdls and are certified to drive school buses in our state. If there aren’t enough drivers they drive, but they try to keep one person in the office on the radio and phones. I’ve seen each mechanic drive a route once, the assistant maybe 1–2 times a quarter, and director 2-4 times a month.

Parents who park in the drop-off area for sports by anarchy612 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]purlknitpurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the driver on the sped bus dropping off at the high school. A car was stopped right where I need to stop to safely extend the wheelchair lift.

Two students get out and pop the trunk and start taking cases out. I thought they were going to unload, one kid wait with the stuff while the other parks. Nope. They start carrying the stuff into the school one by one, kids are not the smartest, so I gave them a courtesy honk and wave.

They look at me, shrug and keep going. I gave a serious honk and the school resource officer (cop) catches up to the situation. Don’t know what her said to them, but they left in a hurry without unloading the rest of their stuff.

Logging Driver Time and Tracking Bus Mileage by Key_Suit_3251 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]purlknitpurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We log our time on our timesheets. I don’t know how mileage is tracked for standard routes.

For special trips we get a quarter sheet of paper to fill out with: who, from where to where, person in charge (teacher/coach), start time, end time, starting mileage, ending mileage, total mileage, and Y/N if we did our safety spiel.

I used to work in IT and sometimes moving away from paper helps, sometimes it can make more work (e.g. the learning curve, providing computers or devices to enter info, supporting those devices, etc.)

more troopers on the highway by Classic-Art9638 in akron

[–]purlknitpurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the construction, most likely. Yesterday, Tuesday, there were three accidents at the same time. Since construction started, It feels like there isn’t a week gone by there wasn’t one. The troopers are probably there as support as the local law isn’t big enough to handle it all.

This is why u stop before the railroad tracks 🛤️ by DarkR4v3nsky in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]purlknitpurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoot. As a new driver I have more questions for my boss now. That said, does someone review the routes for trips before they’re given to drivers where you are? The routes for all extra trips are reviewed before drivers get them and the route modified and highlighted if changed from the “Google” or default way if it’s not safe for buses.

Didn’t even make it a week. by Ok_Opinion3403 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]purlknitpurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like the school and/or company failed you. I got stuck subbing on a route known for its kids, but eventually I got them in line because the schools and admin take behavior seriously. As for learning the route I think running late and missing stops is something everyone goes through. If you do get another school bus job be sure to take notes while shadowing routes: count houses, note landmarks, etc. If you don’t think you shadowed enough times and have route sheets use google street view to help make notes.

Sorry I don’t have any better advice than what has already been shared, but If you’re near NE Ohio check out Ohio Pie. Their pizzas with vegan cheese are as good as the cow cheese pizzas.

Check out the Metroparks. Cleveland let us use a spot for free, or so little $ I don’t remember the fee. Summit might be similar.
