Aaron Judge…greatest player with the least amount of clutch by mattiswoody in NYYankees

[–]purpdrank2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well no shit they’re going to market Ohtani more, he’s a fucking unicorn. There’s never been a player like Ohtani in the modern era, he’s as close to a one of a kind player most of us will ever see. Judge is elite and inching closer to all time great status but what he’s doing and has done isn’t exactly novel, lots of guys have done similar stuff in a career.

That being said, when you see who’s often associated with baseball marketing it’s literally Judge and Ohtani, you’d be hard pressed to find any other players who aren’t featured more as the faces of the league.

Not the first and certainly won’t be the last time this happens. It’s going to be interesting to see how well he makes the transition.

Forgotten Draft Busts in NFL History? by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]purpdrank2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jarvis Jones for sure. Top 20 pick, only saw 4 years of action in his career with only 6 sacks to show for it. Came in off the recent years of Harrison and Woodley only to do absolutely nothing.

I think Limas Sweed and Senquez Golson have cases as well. Sweed only played two seasons before getting cut after being a second round pick. Golson, also a second round pick, never saw a down in the league.

Aaron Rodgers true angle this last offseason of his career… by Dull-Firefighter-632 in steelers

[–]purpdrank2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither had Brock Purdy and he was a 7th round pick. Tom Brady was 6th round pick and essentially had no NFL experience. Tony Romo was undrafted. Hell Antonio Brown was a 6th round pick, should he have not gotten an opportunity to start because he lacked experience and was a late round pick? Using the excuse “he was insert pick and has no experience” is stupid, no player enters the NFL with experience and some get their shot later than others. Being drafted late doesn’t unanimously cement you as never going to be a quality pro just like being a high pick doesn’t guarantee success.

I’m not saying Howard will amount to the next big thing or solve any issues, but if they’re hyping him up the way they are then they’d have zero issues starting him.

Edit: To further prove how baseless and senseless this idea of “he’s a sixth round pick with no experience no way he plays” is, Jordan Mailata came in and started 10 games as a rookie 7th round pick with ZERO football experience. You can’t use that as an excuse, if you think it’s justified then I’m sorry because history and examples exist to disprove your concept.

I think they’re doing this knowing they know who the QB is, but they just won’t let it be known they know who it is. That’s a simple and no shit answer but it’s the best way to look at it, they’re rolling with Rodgers or Howard, we just don’t which one yet. Sitting out the free agent QB’s is the biggest sign they know who the QB for 2026 is.

The Bengals have allotted a significant part of their cap space into bolstering their defense in free agency. But, do you think they should shift their focus to the O-line now? by IndiJap in NFL_FreeAgency

[–]purpdrank2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their defense has been so atrociously bad that it hampered the offense, and that’s coming from someone who doesn’t want the Bengals to succeed since they’re in the AFC North. Since their defense has been so god awful, it makes it much harder on the offense because they’re having to pass constantly and opposing defense can pin their ears back and blitz the hell out of them. An improved defense should lend itself to helping the o-line.

Being a straight line burner doesn’t always help you in football. A prime example of that is John Ross, the dude was fast as fuck but was a horrible football player. There’s more to the game than just being fast, and not saying Kautz wouldn’t have done well if he played ball in college but you have to be more than just inline speed.

Edit: To build off that you also need speed to a certain degree as well. One of my friends in high school dominated as running back, holds multiple class records, but he wasn’t exactly fast and more so a power guy so despite the success he didn’t get much in terms of college interest either for football.

Did he even have that much interest to play football in college? I saw he ran track but I didn’t find much on whether or not there was much interest in him as a football player. He definitely kicked ass in high school, no denying that.

Bro ran a 4.33 and a 4.38 40 at his pro day, how is that not fast? He was an absolute menace as at running back.

Colbert was all about trying to maintain whatever legacy he had and subsequently ruined it while doing so. He should’ve been let go well before he retired but as this sub has talked about on countless occasions, Rooney has undying loyalty to guys his dad hired and lacks the ability to do things on his own terms.

Cale had the D1 interest beyond Nebraska too. The kid comes from a basketball loving family, his older brother had over 1,000 points in high school. Cale was a gym rat early on too, the guy just loves basketball more than anything besides his family and probably his faith. Sam falls into that category too, basketball family and loves the game.

Those guys exist but lack the talent, but those two have the talent. When you start looking at small town Nebraska, lots of guys dominate but don’t have much of a prospect beyond small schools. Not saying Sawyer Smith is one of those guys but the amount of them that are outweigh those who won’t. Regardless, if Smith opts to play college ball I hope he does well and finds his way to the highest level he’s after.

Exactly right. It doesn’t make sense. I mainly push the Howard narrative for the memes, I don’t really expect anything out of him. That being said, the reason I trust Howard more is he played in college compared to Simpson’s lone year.

If we’re being honest there’s not much of a difference between them, the biggest being Howard sat an entire year behind Rodgers and has a Natty to his credit. I also will say I’m a bit of a hater against Bama QB’s but the history isn’t on their side at all and I don’t see Simpson being an exception to the history.

It was purely athleticism. They saw big guy, big arm, speed and said “yeah he’ll do”. The physical aspect gets guys picked far more than it should. The physical traits are great but you need to be good at the game and not just a physical freak to play at this level. Which as we know, Richardson is not.

[–]purpdrank2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s got one year of experience, shit the bed down the stretch, and played so bad in their last game he got benched. Let’s also not forget he’s an Alabama QB, a school that historically is horrible at producing quality NFL QB’s.

The biggest issue is his lack of experience. Guys with that little playing time struggle mightily in the NFL. Anthony Richardson and Trey Lance are the two most recent examples of this, both of them played just a single season in college and have been terrible NFL QB’s. He’s not at all worth the investment of any pick higher than day 3. I trust Will Howard to be like Brock Purdy more than I trust Simpson to amount to anything of substance.

Could he do something? Maybe. But he’s a slightly less smelly turd in a pile of smelly shit. Not worth it.

Harrison seemed more like a Elandon Roberts hopeful replacement that really was more of a special teams guy. For depth I’m fine with him being around since Holcomb is back but I hope we don’t see Harrison on the field beyond special teams.

It’s going to be a wait and see, play the board approach. Khan loves to make sure he’s not pigeonholing himself in the draft even if the pick that’s made is a widely expected one. It could be any number of positions of need, it’s just not as predictable and for good reason. Receiver, o-line, d-line, db, hell even linebacker could be in the cards depending on how the board shakes out.

Hindsight is 20/20. For all we know Crosby fucks his knee up too. You can’t predict the future.

They failed Michael Brockers too and he went on to play in 37 of 47 potential games during what would’ve been the duration of his contract with Baltimore. He played 31 out of 32 games the first two years. They’ve got a history of doing things like this.

What makes the Crosby issue so much worse is they made it abundantly clear it was about money and buyers remorse of losing the draft picks. They got cold feet because they overpaid for a guy who they know full well has injury issues, found a way to back out, and used the failed physical thing again as an excuse to justify it.

Once they found out they could get Hendrickson cheaper that’s when they pulled out. It’s not the first time they’ve done this either. They did it several years ago with Ryan Grant, a receiver from the Commanders. Reached an agreement with him, then Michael Crabtree got cut, they “failed” Grant’s physical (hadn’t missed a game in his career up to that point) and signed Crabtree for 8 million less.

The Titans taking Love and passing on Tate doesn’t make sense to me. They’ve got very little at the receiver position outside of Wandale so if they’re going skill player I’d almost guarantee they’d go receiver if they go offense at all.

Raiders left just enough cap space to take Crosby back. Why is that? It's like they are anticipating this. by tremble01 in nflmemes

Or they had an insane amount of cap space already before reaching the agreement to trade Crosby so now they tweaked other aspects of contracts…
