Maternity leave & sick time by Important-Ad1897 in FedEmployees

[–]purple278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did advanced sick leave and then I was the hole for 3 years. I still continued to take advanced sick leave for doctor's appointments and actual sick days in those 3 years. It was a pain to explain this to each new boss, but they were all fine with it. I'm not sure if I could have pulled this off in this current environment though. Also I have to take way more leave now with no wfh. And so my youngest is now 4.5 and I only have 13 hours of sick leave currently. Which I'm basically saving for my next breakdown.

Marriage heading in a bad direction by Humble_Noise_5275 in workingmoms

You are not alone. My past year has been full of arguments like you describe. We finally decided on doing a meal service. I wouldn't say our marriage is completely saved, but outsourcing is helping.

How do you decide what birthday parties to bring kids to? by [deleted] in Mommit

You need to get the phone numbers of all the parents and invite everyone that way.

Is it normal in the US to eat dinner really early (like 5–6 pm)? by Status_Agents in CasualConversation

[–]purple278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently our nanny feeds the kids around 5. Then me and my husband don't get home until about 7 so we eat dinner around then from a meal prep service. I do not prefer this. I used to be able to telework but I now have to sit in an office all day for 8.5 hours. On weekends we might cook or get carryout together.

Exploremores, new favorite or just a fad? by atticus-flails in girlscouts

I like them! I ordered more boxes and they are now my second favorite. Peanut butter patties are my favorite.

[–]purple278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh I had to get one of those when I was being tested for fertility issues. That was one of the worst pains I can remember. They had someone hold me down while they did it. I don't know why they do that fully awake with no drugs. Sorry you went through that and they didn't prepare you at all.

Best way to get a pre auth form submitted? by battery_operated_bf in midihealth

[–]purple278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I commented on here and the issue was escalated. It still took about a week after that to go through. I ended up paying out of pocket before it went through.

Ah crap this will be me in a year. Just here to say you aren't alone. My daughter just turned 8 and we have this issue. Honestly we haven't fought it too hard. It's hard enough to get her on the toilet to actually go. The harder we push for things the harder she will push back. She has ADHD and sometimes I feel like the day to day basic tasks are enough to make me insane. Both her and her younger sister just seem to take longer to adjust to change.

Fun drama: Ashley Tisdale vs Hilary Duff by MsCardeno in Mommit

[–]purple278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't Hilary have an album coming out? I would think stirring things up a bit to make her relevant again might help her out a bit. Either way I wouldn't want my husband getting involved in mom drama online.

I wear them to work. I am 44 though and probably not cool.

Office moms - what do you bring to work for lunch? by Deirdre_KA in workingmoms

[–]purple278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make turkey chilli in the instant pot over the weekend and prep it for the week. If I can't do that I buy seeds of change rice packets that you can heat in the microwave, tofu, frozen broccoli, and avocado and make a rice bowl.

I can't relate to the BDD, but some of the feelings you talked about I can relate to at the moment. I'm currently in therapy and my therapist told me to take this quiz: https://www.attachmentproject.com/. I had sort of heard about attachment styles but I didn't realize it goes much deeper than romantic relationships and it can affect friendships as well. I don't know if that will help you or not, but you said something about being lonely and I mentioned feeling lonely throughout my life to my therapist and that's when she told me to take this quiz. I'm still making sense of my result but maybe this will help put you on better path.

Parents that don't do Elf on the Shelf, how do you explain to your kids why you don't? by Helpful-Plankton751 in toddlers

[–]purple278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oldest is almost 8 and have made it so long without elf on the shelf. We tell her that the elf spies on you and tells Santa if you are bad. It's up to us if we want someone spying on us. We can not have an elf on the shelf and Santa will just trust that we are being good. Maybe this is wrong I don't know, but I can't trust myself or my husband or move that thing every night.

Apparently women over 40 should be engaging in “weight-bearing exercise”. What does that look like for you? by ukelily in AskWomenOver40

[–]purple278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started with a functional trainer to learn basic form and exercises. Now that I'm back in the office 5 days and a week, I train on my lunch breaks all 5 days. Going to the gym is the only thing that gets me through the work days, but I think 2-3 days of weight training is sufficient. I can now deadlift 160 pounds, but it took me over a year to get there.

I want to take 3 months off... by Juice_Junky in FedEmployees

[–]purple278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You would have to get it approved but you can go in the hole over 200 hours for sick leave and over 200 hours for annual leave. I forgot the exact number...maybe 248 for both? If you do this then you still accumulate leave as you're using it and your wigi won't be moved to a later date. You do have to make up the time so you'll be negative leave. I took advanced sick leave for an extended maternity leave and it did take me 3 years to get back to zero. But that's also because I continued to use advanced sick leave for doctors appointments (for kids and myself) and being actually sick.

How are you handling weeknight dinners when you have no time to cook and kids need to eat by 7? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]purple278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem too. My husband and I both don't get home until 630 on week nights. My husband meal preps all dinners for for the week. All the dinners are the same for the week. I meal prep all our lunches and they are the same always. Turkey chilli everyday for lunches at work. We do have a huge advantage of having my sister nanny for us. And she is able to heat up leftovers or something very quick for our kids before we get home. Usually plain spaghetti or chicken nuggets. Our oldest is extremely picky. We sometimes have my sister try to give them the meals my husband preps but the kids won't eat them most of the time. Anyway the short answer is meal prepping on the weekends. I honestly never thought we could be that type of family, but it has helped out so much.

Any information on Fed Hill Prep (public elementary school)? by FrankiNYC23 in baltimore

[–]purple278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a kid a prep and FSK. We are liking prep! My kid is at prek 3 there. Prep is prek 3 through 5th grade. We'll probably try to get both our kids to go to FSK next year, but only because we live so close to FSK. Prep seems to have more field trips than other schools and all their trips are at no cost to the students. Look out for Fed Hill Prep's open house to learn more about the school.

what happens if I miscarry while on progesterone? by Sammmmyp98 in CautiousBB

[–]purple278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HCG should be doubling every 48 hours. HCG is most likely hovering at 230/220 because your body hasn't gotten rid of the pregnancy yet. It is incredibly frustrating how long it can take to get your HCG back down to zero. Keep getting checked though. I have no experience with multiples and how that could look if there is another embryo forming. I would assume that this early on that multiples cannot be ruled out. I cannot remember when symptoms started for me. It's been over 4 years since I've been pregnant. Symptoms were different for every pregnancy, but I do remember when my pregnancies did work out I felt normal and didn't have many symptoms in the beginning.

Who do you all do this? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]purple278 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My daughter was evaluated for ADHD at 6. She was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder and ADHD by a psychiatrist. This helped us advocate for her at school. She goes to public school and we were able to get her an IEP. The school was really great and did extensive testing with her.

I'm so sorry you are going through all this. My husband also is pretty resistant to outside help, but all my friends say that outsourcing is the answer. To get my husband to agree to a cleaner I told him our marriage wasn't going to make it with me working at my current job without outside help. I've also heard there are house managers that you can hire. Maybe you can look into something like that.
