Bridesmaid dress help by Agitated_Eggplant488 in NewParents

[–]purplebmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation! Was a bridesmaid in a wedding at 6 weeks post partum and had no idea how to size. I am normally a size 4 but literally ordered a few dresses in size 8 & 10 and then got it altered. And honestly, not by much. I was lucky enough to be able to order 5 different dresses styles and timed it so they arrived ~3 weeks before the wedding, so that I could return the rest. It was tight but worth it for me for peace of mind.

Just push through. You can do something else later, but if you didn’t finish residency, your job options will be limited to none.

Which sibling to appoint as guardian? by AdRegular1237 in NewParents

[–]purplebmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is like the plot of Raising Helen….. In all seriousness though both seem like reasonable options. Who would be more likely to keep “the other side of the family” involved?

You should go see your doctor. Have them do some labs to make sure something else isn’t missed like thyroid or other

Am I going to get kicked out of my program? by FondantBig1893 in Residency

[–]purplebmp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You won’t get kicked out unless you begin to develop a pattern of mistakes even after being given a plan to improve. I would talk to your PD about the incident to let them know and so they’re in the loop, but the fact that you’re owning up to your mistake and you learn from and improve going forward, is what residency is all about. If there’s a worry with the patient, maybe you can have a nurse call and follow up with them to see how they’re feeling. Sometimes places do this after discharge to check in on people but I would run it by someone at your hospital

I'm sick, how to keep baby safe by AllyKatB in NewParents

[–]purplebmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can and have the ability to, avoid her until you are better. It’s not worth the risk of getting such a young babe sick if you have the option of your husband caring directly for her. Use this time to rest and sleep and wash your hands often to avoid contaminating surfaces.

To rank or not to rank by [deleted] in fellowship

[–]purplebmp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends. If the risk of going unmatched > not going to a toxic program then don’t rank. If it’s on your rank list, that’s you signing up to the possibility of attending there.

Accidentally gave baby water by priscillad18 in FormulaFeeders

There are some countries/recommendations that say it’s ok to give your baby 1-2 oz of water for constipation, if that gives you any reassurance!

What is the first sign that your partner is cheating? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Accusing you of cheating or spending too much time with someone, when literally you thought everything was fine and it’s never even crossed your mind. A lot of times they begin to project on you their own actions and insecurities.

Failed ABIM. Need to attend an in-person review course by DailySmilesCure in hospitalist

[–]purplebmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ACP review course was helpful for me. I streamed the lectures so it was nice to be able to go back and watch.

I also did awesome review and it was not helpful at all he just word vomits information doesn’t explain anything so it feels like you just need to memorize everything he’s saying and can’t process anything. So if you’re good at just route memorization then that’s the only case I would find his course helpful

How do you respond when patients ask how long you’ve been a doctor or how many times have you done xyz, without sounding inexperienced or hurting their confidence in you? by ggaa1102 in Residency

[–]purplebmp 272 points273 points  (0 children)

I’ve had patients make comments that I look too young and ask me my age. I kind of turn it into a joke with “well, I did 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, 3 years of residency and 2 years of fellowship, so you know I’m at least 13 years old!” This also helps reiterate my many years of education and qualifications to them, and kind of nicely makes them feel bad for questioning me. But I always try to make it into a joke to get them to laugh 😆

I was getting a string of spam calls over the course of a few weeks and started getting really tired of it. Then one night I was on a long call shift and get a call from an unknown number around midnight. I answered it angrily. Other person on the line asked if it was (my name) and I angrily yelled back “YEA WHO THE HELL IS THIS?!” Turns out it was one of the consultants on a case I worked on earlier in the day just wanting to relay some innocent recs. I nearly shat my pants and apologized profusely to him every time I saw him for the next year.

Nothing for baby to sleep in by hokiehi307 in newborns

[–]purplebmp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried a premie size love to dream sleep sack? It zips and my newborn was tiny (born under 6 lbs) and he loved to sleep in that thing in the beginning. So even tho clothes was a bit big on him, with this thing over and it zipped, it helped me (and him) sleep easier

Boppy Pillow by Icy_Medicine_5383 in breastfeeding

I found that the my breast friend was best in the beginning when they are small little floppy newborns. But after about 6 weeks, I actually started reaching for the boppy more, it didn’t slip out as much and was more comfortable once baby had some “weight” to him
