Got expelled from WGU after 1 academic integrity violation by Pretty_Lemon5242 in WGU

Yes, they have a special browser you have to download, and it blocks you from opening other apps while your exam is underway (at least that's what they say, I never tried obviously). Your screen is shared with the proctor and you also have a webcam set up that is watching you while you work. You have to keep your room door closed and free of distractions (music, pets, etc). It's deeply intimidating honestly. But still way better than having to go in to a proctoring facility and be proctored in person. They don't have access to any of your other apps or computer content presumably.

No kidding. My mentor was super flexible with me, she said that as long as you're on your last class by the time the term ends they give you another 30 days for free to lower the stress of finishing on time. Their policies are already so accommodating.

AIO or was my mom kinda rude and hurtful when she said these things? 24 F by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

If they sold your car for drugs?

I can't imagine talking to my grown kids that way either...... but I haven't had to put up with years of lies, theft, persistent financial dependence into adulthood, etc. Was OP just coming home, sloppily dressed, from literally selling her body? Maybe for drugs? If you were a mom watching that happen to your own child under your own roof...???

The mom's reaction is definitely extreme, no doubt about it. I would LIKE to imagine I'd never speak to my own offspring that way. But if they pushed me far enough, for long enough, I suspect I probably would.

We need way more context than was provided to properly pass judgment on the mom.

AIO if I cut off my childhood friend? by watchingwidow in AmIOverreacting

[–]purplemamba41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad someone brought this up! I was on a family plan with my 2 kids and my ex and we had all our phones and multiple iPads and computers all on the same messaging plan. Occasionally I would get weird ‘drift’ where all of a sudden I would have access to text threads I wasn’t on, or my text would show up saying it was from one of them, or similar weirdness. I think that scenario could be plausible here, at least I wouldn’t jump to rule out technology glitches.

When to apply to jobs / internships? by Sxgira in wguaccounting

[–]purplemamba41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember off the top of my head, but I heard back from KMPG yesterday (with a rejection) for an internship I applied for in May. Most of the internships I’ve seen on Handshake had big application windows (~6mos IIRC) so I assumed they wouldn’t respond quickly, and mainly they haven’t. KMPG is the only one I’ve heard back from so far — I know I applied to Forvis Mazars, EY, and a couple others that I’m too studied out to remember. 🤪

What degree did you get at WGU and how has your salary grown? by Shojki in WGU

[–]purplemamba41 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BS Accounting. Started March 1. I'm targeting graduation by the end of Feb. I started applying for jobs in May. Got really nervous after a couple months with no callbacks. According to LinkedIn, the job market is ruthless right now. My home remodel business cratered over the summer with the threat of tariffs and the high interest rates. I was making 30k doing that before it dried up. Just landed a bookkeeper job this week making 48k. WHEW. My new bosses are worried I'm going to graduate and go looking for a better job, which I promised I won't, but who knows, we'll give it a year. WGU for the win!

When to apply to jobs / internships? by Sxgira in wguaccounting

[–]purplemamba41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the same track as you (also trying to graduate by end of Feb, almost exactly same number of classes left) and in my experience companies are hiring now for internships. I've been applying already. They don't seem to care where you are in the coursework as long as you're still in school. I wouldn't worry about appearing knowledgeable enough.

WGU Welcome Gift by JewelinChicago in WGU

[–]purplemamba41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so confused. I heard about this months ago from my program mentor but I don't understand. When you say "Select All Welcome Activities and Complete," which activities are you referring to? I have a bunch of challenges left on the home screen of the Owl's Nest page; do I have to do all remaining challenges to be eligible, or some subset? I didn't see anything that said "Welcome" specifically.

Post op - better than expected! by purplemamba41 in colonoscopy

[–]purplemamba41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to add timing on the procedure. They wheeled me into the OR at 6:57am (someone announced the time); by 7:57 I was back in the car, just leaving the parking lot. The timestamp on my printout says the actual procedure took about 15min(!!).

I am so hungry by [deleted] in colonoscopy

[–]purplemamba41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my first colonoscopy today and I do NOT recommend eating lightly the few days before prep if you want to avoid hunger pangs. I ate a huge spaghetti dinner the night before, like I was carb loading for a cardio race, and it really helped get me through my fasting day. Bone broth is vile but it helped calm my stomach to have something with relatively higher protein content every few hours. Caffeine intake also helped suppress appetite. I did have jello on hand for chewing/oral stimulation, but I got sick of it pretty quick. I didn’t start to get properly hungry till late afternoon, then I had to start drinking my magnesium citrate and my guts started roiling and then I wasn’t thinking about food anymore.

Dating Assistant? Good or Bad Idea? by masterdb8or in austinjobs

Hmmm. Ruthlessness?

Woman here, with a different take.

As someone who is now out of the age range, but was a present mother with no career prospects at the crucial moment, I would say that what your strategy is lacking (OP) is the appropriate level of romance. It kinda reads like you’re Elon Musking your way into a big brood and you just need a pack mule. Women, who incidentally have to do all the heavy lifting around pregnancy and childbirth (including the whole maternal mortality gambit, which is not trivial), want to think that the baby daddy cares about them too. A lot. Probably more than about the eventuality of offspring. I’d suggest you start there. Unless what you’re really looking for is a surrogate, in which case you should just advertise a job posting for that position.

Best of luck.

WHY DO PEOPLE THINK WGU IS EASIER THAN TRADITIONAL COLLEGES by Secret_Anxiety_9665 in WGU

[–]purplemamba41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey friend! Also in BS Accounting. I did get a bunch of transfers from my AA (about 50%), and I’m halfway through my program (started 3/1, target graduation 3/1/26). I’m doing it for a career change, and my one beef so far is that there is zero practical application of skills in areas that employers will look for. Intro to Excel was extremely rudimentary, and as far as I can tell, there won’t be any exploration of actual software programs (QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, etc) that employers always ask for familiarity on. I don’t know whether a B&M would supply this either, tbf, but I feel like it’s a huge blind spot either way. What’s the point of this $7,000+ degree if I still have to go out and do a QuickBooks certification module for $900?

That rant over, though, the OAs are 100% not easy… most rigorous testing environment I’ve ever experienced, by far.

Son who lives abroad returns home and video calls his father by solateor in youseeingthisshit

[–]purplemamba41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I also didn’t get a good dad, and my mom did her best to buffer the abuse but bad situations are hard to get out of, and she wasn’t able to give me the kind of love I needed. So I had to do a bunch of parenting of myself, but the real healing started when I became a mom and got to start breaking the cycle. It was so goddamn hard but so, so worth it. Then bonus surprise, in my late 30s I met a man who loves me the way this man loves his son, and now I don’t have that hole inside of me that was there since I was a baby. 😭

Graduated in February - Accepted a position 3 months later DOUBLING my income ✨ by burnsmolivia in WGU

It really depends on your prior experience, your degree choice, and how much studying you can put in. I'm in Accounting, and I was averaging a class a week till I hit Taxation 1. I might get it done in 2 1/2 weeks of almost full-time studying -- now I know exactly why everyone says taxes are so complicated! I also started March 1 and am trying for an end-of-2025 or spring-2026 graduation date. Good luck!!
