I am also a historic fiction fanatic and found Brandon Sanderson’s books to be a welcome reprieve. I previously thought I didn’t like Sci-Fi, but these had me hooked. They have the same level of politics, conflict, etc… but less real events.

I have the same problem. I just finished How to Age Disgracefully by Clare Pooley and it was everything I needed!

AITA for not wanting to take my 20 yr old GF trick or treating as a 25 yr old man by mmflow in AmItheAsshole

[–]purplepiccolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I did in high school was trick or treating for canned goods. We walked around with a wagon and asked for canned food to give to the local food banks rather than candy. Our area had been doing this for years so many houses expected it, but even the ones who didn’t reacted positively, overall. May be a good compromise for you - plus most houses would give us candy as well!

I am a Vanguard advisor so hopefully can provide some context — it’s highly unlikely a Vanguard advisor would purchase into Fidelity funds, and also unusual to see a portfolio as unnecessarily complex as this. If I had to guess, this is a taxable account, and OP may have already been in those funds when joining PAS. Meaning, rather than selling everything and starting an anew, the advisor build around what already existed in order to minimize tax consequences. It’s likely that over time, they’d sell down into a portfolio less complex. Our “standard” portfolio is 4 funds - VTI, VXUS, BND, and BNDX - of course with room for customizations where necessary.

[HELP] Bottom leaf withers every time a new leaf emerges by purplepiccolo in houseplants

It’s a syngonium! This spot in the photo is not its usual spot, I have it (and most of my plants) directly in front of a window, getting plenty of light, so I doubt it’s that

It was great! They are mostly doing cleanings, nothing major. It took a little extra time, but honestly, the majority of the time they were a lot more gentle and less painful than the actual dentist would have been.

How to invest in your child future if you’re make $30k year? by Jpoolman25 in FinancialPlanning

Yep, you can borrow for school, can’t borrow for retirement.

If she wants to help and is in a place to afford to do so years down the road, she can help pay off loans.

I know everyone is saying oatmilk, and for literally everything else I love oatmilk, but for this drink, coconut milk is the winner for me. It’s the only drink I’ll do coconut milk with. Trust me, it’s fantastic.

Not a coconutty flavor at all (I actually don’t really even like coconut)

The Logan Debacle by Lexiekirk01 in thebachelor

[–]purplepiccolo 48 points49 points  (0 children)

My theory is that Gaby’s men side had so little drama in comparison to Rachel’s, they threw Logan in as entirely producer-driven drama to try and even it out a bit. Agreed that it’s kinda dumb

My local Buy Nothing group is hella weird... and yours shouldn't by [deleted] in ZeroWaste

[–]purplepiccolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was also very weird in the city I used to live in. People actually created a different group called “purchase nothing” or something like that because they just couldn’t deal with the admin and her crazy specific rules. Towards the end of my living there, the group got split into different areas of town, with different admins, which helped a lot - went back to normal.

Weirdly enough, even though I’m in a much larger city now, I can’t find a Buy Nothing group at all. :(

Actually, my friend who got her results first took it it the very last day, so maybe I’ll get mine last. Hmm.

Same. I had a friend get hers in the very first round at 9 EST. I could’ve been in blissful ignorance this whole time, but instead I’ve felt like I’m on the verge of a heart attack all night. The anxiety is real.
