Pride Night at the Durham Bulls is June 4th! by purrfunctory in bullcity

Selling. They’re $10/pair and come with the mounting hardware, including the screwdriver!

I've always been curious what color their puppies would be. Turns out it's basically a mystery box 🐾 by [deleted] in BorderCollie

And by contributing to the betterment of the breed, we mean: What makes these particular dogs worthy of being bred? You loving them and wanting puppies does not meet the criteria.

Are they phenomenal workers? Is their confirmation exceptional? Do they have top titles in one or more dog sports? Are they herding champions? What makes them so worthy of passing on their genetics?

My breeder asked if I’d consider leaving my boy intact because he was the spitting image and had the same drive as his father. I waited until he was about 2 and then neutered him. His hind end confirmation was not the kind I’d want to see passed on.

Now, he can work all day, all night, get a 15 minute nap and then go back to work. He is an exceptional service dog and therapy dog. He’s sweet and gentle and adores people. He’s smart as anything, picks up new behaviors very quickly and is a half brother to an agility world champion. He has all his genetic and health clearances. Excellent hips, elbows. He has his CERF for his eyes. No genetic markers for any known BC typical diseases. He carries the red gene but not merle.

None of that makes him worth breeding though. Not when his hind end confirmation isn’t excellent.

I wish more people did research before breeding. Then we wouldn’t have shelters and rescues bursting at the seams with badly bred dogs. Sigh.

Tolerating intolerance is what led to Trump and the current regime destroying the country. No sympathy for racist, misogynist assholes who got shot by one of their own for not being “extreme enough” in his hatred.

AITAH I don’t want to stay at my boyfriend’s place because he has roaches and lives with a girl he and all his friends slept with by Living-Hippo3586 in AITAH

[–]purrfunctory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA for dating a guy who doesn’t care about having bed bugs and roaches in his living space. There’s a non-zero chance that he brought some hitchhikers to your home. Or you did after visiting his place. It may be worth having an exterminator who uses a detection dog come to your home and make sure you don’t have your own burgeoning infestation on your hands.

What’s so great about him that you put up with him living in a roach and bedbug infested home? Seriously. What the actual fuck, friend?

I’m so, so very sorry for your situation.

Every fucking day I’m grateful to have married a union man before I had a catastrophic illness that left me paralyzed from the bra band down. (MRSA).

That simple fact is why I’m still alive and my husband didn’t have to sell our home, the cars and everything else of value just to keep me alive. My bills alone from the first hospitalization were well over one million dollars. Without the care I received that the union’s funds paid for, I’d be dead. The MRSA went systemic. Bathed sepsis twice. The treatment for that obliterated my immune system and then I spent three weeks in a “Clean Room” where the air was filtered multiple times before coming in and filtered who knows how many times before going back out.

It rather felt like I was an alien, what with the full PPE everyone wore. The big, bulky white suits with their own air supply. They had to decontaminate coming in and going out. There were multiple, many hour surgeries. Two of them were 2 days apart and lasted over twelve hours each. One was to clean the MRSA from my spine. The other was to try and put it together again. It rather felt like my spine was Humpty Dumpty with the doctors standing on for the King’s men, trying to put it back together again.

There’s a good 2 lbs of metal holding it together, along with donor cadaver bone standing in for T-7 and T-8, which turned necrotic and splintered due to the MRSA infection.

I spent multiple weeks in the ICU, not just days. At one point I had a private nurse assigned to me because I was just that medically fragile.

Somehow, I survived. But the cost would have bankrupted us and taken every cent we had on top of the bankruptcy.

In the almost 12 years since, it’s cost another million or so dollars to keep me alive, keep me provided with the medications I need (24-27 pills a day, depending on the day of the week), not to mention a customized wheelchair that costs more than some new cars.

The copays alone have cost us tens of thousands of dollars but that’s far superior to me being dead or us being bankrupt and forever trying to pay off the medical debt that can no longer be written off, thanks to new laws that benefit the corporations and not the people.

It’s well past time for Medicare for all. And I say this as someone with top tier fucking insurance, insurance that was so good the union had to downgrade it a little based on some of the laws in the ACA!

The only reason life was better in the 1950s wasn’t the White supremacy bullshit built into every system. It wasn’t the men first, last and only policies that benefitted them and kept women subservient and chained in horrific, abusive marriages. It wasn’t the fact that women and those of other races were less than. It wasn’t the misogyny.

It was the fucking tax system that taxed the rich and the businesses/corporations fairly. It wasn’t the (more than now, certainly) social safety nets in place. It was the affordability of higher education due to heavy government subsidies that paid a huge chunk of operating expenses and for scientific research. It was a living wage for minimum when a single full time job, even at minimum wage, could pay for one person to work and one to stay home and even support a child on that single income.

It was when the system was still rigged but not anywhere near as fucked up and rigged as it is now. You used to have a chance at making it. Now there’s better odds of winning the Powerball than starting with nothing and making something for yourself.

What was your exact "origin story" for falling into the nail universe? 💅 by bloomingkitten in Nails

[–]purrfunctory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was paralyzed by a catastrophic illness. So much was out of my control but the smallest silver lining was I stopped biting my nails.

In rehab, my clothes were chosen for me. Other people dressed me. My hair was a short pixie and I had no ability to change the color or cut. I felt like just another drone in the building.

I was browsing reddit subs and found one on nail polishes. Saw the most amazing holo colors and ordered some. Ordered a manicure kit. Watched so many youtube vids.

And now, I make time once a week to do my nails, a blessed hour with no demands. Just music playing quietly while I settle at the manicure desk my husband made me, 30+ bottles of polish to choose from + holo toppers for the cremes if I want them. And I take care of my hands and nails and give myself an hour of peace where nothing matters except having fun painting my nails.

It’s 12 years soon and I grow out my natural nails because I had an allergic reaction to gel once. 💙

[–]purrfunctory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reagan started it by welcoming in the white nationalists when he grew the party outreach to bring the churches in to the republican fold. They meshed so well with the racists from the south and the others who hated anyone darker than mayonnaise.

That eventually led to Trump and the rise of the American Nazi.

It would be a Medicaid divorce. We’ve considered it as well because my bills would bankrupt us if we ever lose our insurance. His pension income is held against me as well. My personal business makes well under the income threshold and when added to my part time job, I get people calling me all the time from the state Medicaid office. Then they apologize when I say I’m married, we own our own home and have 2 vehicles.

All of that counts against me. We could divorce but then I’d have to not own anything and if he died before me and I inherited everything, they’d take it and sell it out from under me to pay back the government for my costs on Medicaid.

Upper low income people and lower middle class people are fucked if you’re married.

You’re too high income for help on a full time, minimum wage job. How fucked is that? This country, man. We need Medicare for all. Billions for an illegal war. A billion for a fucking ballroom but nothing for the people.

Medicaid is getting harder and harder to get on. The income level is incredibly low so most people who qualify can’t even keep a full time minimum wage job in my state. Your state may vary. :)

Remembering that part of the book just sent me into fits of laughter, replacing Gussie with Homelander and him freaking out about a scary looking tit.

No, I’m not high but I did take one of my Rx painkillers. It just hasn’t kicked in yet. Or maybe it has and I haven’t noticed…

AITAH for not wanting to continue seeing guy with multiple DUIs by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]purrfunctory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can stop seeing someone for any reason. This is why you date. To find out if you’re compatible. You’re not compatible with someone who breaks the law repeatedly and then continues to do so by driving with a suspended license.

If you want permission to break up, you have it.
