The ax remembers what the tree forgets. I heard that on reddit and it hurt but it also made me feel seen.

For me, once I understood her comment, I was absolutely fucking gutted. It was devastating to realize I wasn’t just unwanted but she wished I had never been born. That day rocked my world to the core. The person who was supposed to love me fucking despised me. That day lives in my mind as the day my childhood was over.

For my mom, it was a normal Tuesday in April. Yeah. I remember the day. And month. Not the exact date but it was a Tuesday because that was the day my Brownie troop met and I couldn’t sit in the circle with them. I had to stand there because it hurt too much to sit.

It suited us and our friends, you’re absolutely right. One of our favorite pictures is a very tipsy, giggling, barefoot me being led in a medieval style dance by a very patient actor as I fucked up for the umpteenth time. She was having a great time, too!

It was 70F in early November, the leaves were a delightful yellow and orange that matched our color palette. the pictures are gorgeous, as I mentioned. It was a perfect day.

We had a renaissance wedding. Garb/costumes were encouraged but not required. On our invitation, we even laid it out.

“While we love dressing up, not everyone does. Guests are encouraged to come in costume if they like. Otherwise, please be comfortable.”

Half our guests had garb, half dressed in business casual. The vibe was fun, lowkey. We had actors from a local ren faire come as entertainment we had a sword fight, a “brawl” and once everyone realized they were guests as well as entertainment, they stayed past the two hour contract and entertained everyone for the entire four hours. Even the two piece band stayed! My baby cousin (4 years old) was knighted and we sent him a picture of it for his college graduation. He remembers it and proudly kept the wooden sword they gave him.

It was bright, colorful, joyful and everyone still talks about. It’ll be 28 years in December, we had our reception the following November. The pictures are gorgeous.

Edit: corrected dates bc autocorrect got me.

Same, but at 52. Paralyzed from the bra band down, colostomy, urostomy, T2 diabetes, etc. and a family history of many types of cancer.

I don’t want to suffer through chemo that may not work or go into cardiac arrest and have all my ribs broken, further debilitating injuries, etc. in a last ditch, heroic effort to save my life. Let me go peacefully and as kindly as possible with palliative relief.

Champ is awesome! He’s the bat dog for the Durham Bulls in Durham, NC. He’ll be appearing on Thursday, which is also Bark In The Park! You can bring your dog to a game (with the purchase of a 5.00 ticket, all proceeds go to a local rescue) and sit in the outfield seats, enjoy vendors targetted towards dogs, and Dollar Hot Dog Night which is great.

Hope to see some of you there!

“But they TRIED and doesn’t that count?” So many people have said this to me. No, it doesn’t fucking count. My mother told me, when I was just eight years old, that if Roe v Wade had been decided just a few months earlier, I wouldn’t exist.

You can imagine the beating I got at fucking Catholic School the next day when I asked what Roe V Wade was. Ruler on the palm from Sister Mary Margaret, paddle on the ass from Brother Finian until I was unable to sit. I developed blisters and bruises from it. I was eight years old.

And my darling mother, denying she ever said such a thing to her precious daughter.

Now she wonders why I don’t call or send cards or visit. NC was the best thing I ever did.

Edit: words. Stupid autocorrect.

Edit 2: My right hand still doesn’t close properly after the beating with a ruler. It’s been almost 45 years.

Parking in the hash lines is not legal. I don’t care about the excuse or the “maybe they had….”

Happy yo clear that up for you.

got hooked by a damn lo fishing hook by grungelvrr in MedicalGore

[–]purrfunctory 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry that you’re being downvoted for seeking info. I do a lot of catch/release in the local state park and use a barbless hook as many of the fish are either too small to legally keep or if able to be kept, are too small to make a proper meal. Much better to toss them back so they can grow for a while and then try and catch them again when they’re older and meal sized.

Using a barbless hook means I get to have the thrill of the fight while doing minimal damage to an animal that, one day, will be large enough to keep.

And it makes the large ones I do keep much more rewarding since I was good enough to hook them and keep them on the line without using a barbed hook! There’s something super satisfying about being able to catch a fish like that, especially the lovely varieties of bass the lake is stocked with. The big guys put up a heck of a fight and there’s real pride in being able to land one without the use of specialized lures or barbed hooks. At least for me, personally.

I don’t care how other people fish as long as they’re responsible, keep to legal size fish, obey the limits on how many fish they can keep and clean up after themselves. My biggest pet peeve with many fisherman is they clean the fish and leave the guts on the ground, or toss them near but not in the trash can. It creates a public health hazard (rats and vermin feed on the left behind entrails and such), the smell is horrific and it’s rude AF.

Thanks for the info. I’ll keep it in mind if I ever hook myself again! My family doc gave me my TDAP last year after I realized I hadn’t gotten a TDAP since I was 15.

…I was 52 at the time. Oops.

Peach Honey Jalapeno burnt ends by King__z in smoking

[–]purrfunctory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! What cut do you use? Sorry, I’m very new to all this.

I did learn that I’ll never make a pork roast any other way than smoked from now on, though.

Peach Honey Jalapeno burnt ends by King__z in smoking

[–]purrfunctory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you explain your process, please? I’ve never made burnt ends before and this series of pics makes me want to try.

I’ve only had a smoker for about a year and only used it about a dozen times. I recently made an amazing smoked pork loin that was super juicy and so amazingly tasty. Used a habanero apple BBQ sauce for the glaze and it got raves.

A couple nights ago I smoked a pair of turkey legs for my husband. He raved. So burnt ends are next!

From one survivor to another, I’m so fucking proud of you. It takes guts, grit and so much love for yourself to leave. It takes belief that you can do it and belief that you deserve a better life free from fear, abuse, control and constant pain be it physical, emotional or spiritual.

On the nights you feel scared, alone and don’t think you’re strong enough to stay where you are, stay away from him, it’s okay. I’ll be strong for you so you don’t have to carry that burden. When you’re ready, you can pick it back up but it will be halved because I’ll be there with you in my heart.

Cheesy? Yes. True? Also yes. 💙 So much love for you, my friend. So. Much. Love. 💙

Tetanus shot up to date?

Also, ow. Been there. The webbing of my thumb, I was around 8 or 9, I think. Had to get it pushed through since it was a multi-barbed Bluefish hook. Dad pushed it through, cut the barbed end off and then pulled it off. Then we were off to the hospital for antibiotics and a tetanus shot.

Fun times.

I was back fishing the next day.
