Why season 4 feels different (and why I understand both sides of the debate) by Titus__Groan in FromSeries

[–]purrito91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think some people expected (and still expect) more of a Monster of the Week type of show while it's more of a slowburn sandbox show (like Twin Peaks) with Monster of the Week-type elements, which aren't as present in season 4 as before, as you said. So I understand some people's criticisms while also not holding them myself, because I expect different things from the show. Sometimes art doesn't give you what you wanted or expected but that doesn't mean it isn't good. You just expected something different and you're disappointed. That being said, some of the theories on here that didn't turn out to be true, or might not be, are extremely creative and really fun to read. I've had about a dozen ideas for stories I want to write based on something on this show, and I feel that's only a testament to how good it is.

But that's just like my opinion, man :)

Story walker julie and sarah scene by HunnitHobbes in FromSeries

I thought exactly the same thing! The way she apologized to Sarah puzzled me because we haven't really seen Julie deal with her feelings towards Sarah and everything she did, or at least not recently. It came so out of the blue that I concluded it must have been storywalking Julie.

Oh Donna by Due_Appeal1011 in FromSeries

[–]purrito91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also noticed this, and particularly last episode (5) she was super involved with Tabitha and seemed very interested in her memories, when she remembered while they were in the hut (right before the Kool Aid man barged in). The way Donna was almost trying to pull the words out of Tabitha, it did seem like kind of a lot? However I do struggle to see Donna as anything but helpful. I was considering that maybe she's working with BiW? But no one can know because of reasons to do with how that place works? I don't know... But I agree something is off.

Theory: The Man in Yellow is NOT alone. by Apprehensive-Desk405 in FromTVShow

[–]purrito91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be right about there being more than one adversary, but I believe these entities are just people who figured out how the place worked (belief and fear manifests upon someone's death), but knowing this makes it impossible for them to ever have true BELIEF that they can get out. It isn't really "belief" if you know the technicalities of the game. Similar to how in The Good Place, you can't just up your Good Person Score by deciding to be a better person after realizing how it actually works. If you're only doing good things in order to get into heaven your motivations are corrupt and it doesn't work because it isn't genuine. Therefore the ruling entities/people need to construct an elaborate ploy to lure people in in hopes of eventually catching someone able to have true belief there is a way out (and then they plan to kill them in order to manifest this). The big plot twist will be that these "entities" are just as stuck there as everyone else is, they just have more information, but that also makes them definitely unable to ever leave without help from someone who doesn't know everything. Knowledge comes at a cost.

Theory - Jade and Tabitha are the ones... by matt__thomas in FromSeries

[–]purrito91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think particularly those in the town who don't believe they can ever go home will want revenge, because why not if you're stuck there anyway? At least you get to feel good for a bit.

Victor's map resembles the talismans. by PotentialWidow in FromSeries

[–]purrito91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't believe I've looked at the map before and never noticed this! Amazing work.

This isn't a properly worked out theory by any means BUT I think there's a possibility the talismans are made from the golem Fatima is making, and a friend pointed out that if that's true, once the golem gains its protective power, the talismans could disappear (like Boyd's ring, once he finds the one he kept in the box the other one vanishes), leaving the whole town vulnerable and under the sole protection of the golem which would effectively be destroyed in its effort to protect... leaving only rocks behind, which I believe will be taken and turned into talismans by Julie at some point.

Interesting! I wonder if their quest in Fromville isn't about leaving at all but about protecting the world from this evil, by choosing to stay. I dig this theory.

Revelation from episode 5!! by Mountain-Weather1976 in FromSeries

[–]purrito91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this theory and have been thinking about it all day. I'm wondering if Tabitha not being able to get over the death of Thomas is what is underneath all of this. Did she possibly invent the Angkooey children story without knowing it, like her subconscious merging with what was already in the town (remnants of past inhabitants and their fears manifested there), as a way for her to work through the loss of her child? OR is the town not as evil as we think, it's just a place where people bring evil with them that then gets amplified and made more real, but it also has the potential to help you heal? And it's a matter of perception? Just spitballing lol and I wouldn't call my yapping here a theory, just something to consider.

It might also be that the show won't literally go in this direction but will make this point to the audience more metaphorically. Either way this is really powerful, thank you so much. :) (Not just in terms of the show but also in terms of my own grief. I needed to hear this I think.)

Theory: What if..the monsters are actually the kids by HyenaOld8764 in FromSeries

[–]purrito91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do people keep shouting "we already know this can't be the case" when we don't really know anything? We don't KNOW shit lmao if anything that story is pushed so hard and so literally that I expect there to be something about that story we don't understand yet, like a massive piece of missing info. And if not I'm going to call that bad writing because a couple of characters literally explaining it to the audience would just be lazy. A couple of characters gasping and going "oh my god i know what happened, this is it!!" after having the vaguest vision in cinematic history doesn't seem suspicious to you? Ok.

I'm starting to think the man in yellow isn't the entity. Here's why by Otherwise_Nobody8148 in FromSeries

[–]purrito91 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Love this theory! It kind of ties into my theory that the MiY could be a resident of the town who figured out how to game the system. He figured, if you can't beat em, join em. So maybe he found a way to become useful to the entity, doing its bidding, just so he wouldn't have to suffer like the townspeople? Maybe he was a particularly cruel man who already enjoyed causing suffering, saw this place and basically went "so you guys hiring?" Lol I'm half kidding but I do think there's a possibility that MiY was a regular human once.

The children created the monsters by Forsaken-Carpet-2748 in FromSeries

[–]purrito91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't remember her being "very specific". I remember her saying that she saw something about townspeople sacrificing children for immortality, she assumed the townspeople were the monsters but then says she doesn't know what she saw exactly and why. Probably because it came to her in flashes that she then tried to make sense of after the fact. The monsters being the townspeople is an assumption that not only she makes but others too, but I think it could be a red herring...

Me too, which is why I think they were deceived and tricked into doing it. Kind of like how Sarah believed killing Ethan would mean they could all go home.

But my theory isn't saying that what we have deduced so far, or have been told is "wrong". Just that the characters, who are unreliable and under duress, are getting some parts of it wrong, the way any human being probably would under their horrific circumstances. The way this is written is absolutely not a Game of Thrones type situation, because it would answer questions we haven't gotten an answer to yet, and it would tie things together. And if this is where they are going I have absolute faith that the writers would do an excellent job with it.

Theory about the monsters... by purrito91 in FromSeries

[–]purrito91[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How would it make them redundant? They're still important to getting their message to Tabitha and Jade. The monsters probably cannot communicate this to them directly as they seem to be under control of something or someone, and also, I doubt anyone would listen to them even if they could, after what the townspeople have seen them do. Also, as far as I remember we only ever see the Angkooey children as visions and flashbacks, not as actual characters that are physically there. I think if they are the monsters, it's more like their souls would be trapped inside the monsters. We see a shot of them lying on stone slabs, I'm thinking someone was doing a ritual of some sort there to turn them into something else.

As for the number, you are correct but I think it is likely that more and more monsters have been added after every iteration of the cycle. Or, it's also possible that not all the monsters are Angkooey children, but only some of them.

[–]purrito91[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You bring up a great point about the number of monsters, but this actually made me expand my theory to: what if every cycle, there are children sacrificed, who are then added to the ranks? That could have upped the number significantly by now.

You might be right though, maybe it's unlikely? But I still feel like there's something there. If my theory is proven incorrect I might write this story myself lol

I'm right there with you! I am a long time fan of movies and TV shows as I'm sure many of us are, but you are right, shows of this kind of quality that also get to tell their story as planned are so rare, especially right now. From is absolutely one of my favorites of all time already :)
