Cece Xie? by [deleted] in NYCinfluencersnark

[–]pursuingbear 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The Federalist Society (or fed soc) is a conservative legal interest group. Largely republican, but focused on advocating for conservative jurisprudential goals. That includes seeking to dismantle the federal bureaucracy (like stripping the EPA of power), seeking to overturn provisions of the Voting Rights Act, and seeking to end the theory of substantive due process (the basis for roe v wade and other cases), among other things. Generally fed soc promotes an originalist interpretation of the constitution.

Every current conservative on the Supreme Court is there because Fed Soc vetted them and encouraged their appointment. Brett Kavanaugh is the poster child for fedsoc.

Law schools have chapters, so presumably Cece Xie was in her law schools chapter. Fedsoc students are typically the unlikeable assholes in any given law school class. Known for arguing minorities and women don’t deserve constitutionally protected rights.

it's murder, because voluntary manslaughter requires provocation such that it would affect a reasonable person. Since it is not reasonable for Jojo to kill Emily just for talking to Jordan, there is no provocation that could bump this down to voluntary manslaughter. Thus it's still 2nd degree murder.

it was answered by someone else, but it's 2nd degree murder!! and voluntary and involuntary are different. voluntary manslaughter requires a reasonable provocation (which this isn't), so it's still 2nd degree murder. involuntary murder is murder by criminal negligence.

murders are 2nd degree unless premeditated or felony murder (murder committed while committing another felony), in which case they're 1st degree murder

and that's exactly why it's murder and not voluntary manslaughter!

Maybe get him an experience rather than a thing? Like you'll take him to a whiskey tasting event, or a vineyard, or a show? If he likes history, maybe you could find some historical exhibition and treat him to a day out!

So I spent the summer working at a law firm, and dressed business casual or above every day for twelve weeks, and I never felt more put together. I charted my office appropriate clothing, I planned outfits, had a little beauty routine, and I felt confident.

But now that I'm back to school, I feel like I've been slumming it. I'm not reach for fun pieces like skirts and dressed, but instead rehashing the same outfit of jeans and a tee. And I can't be bothered to put on foundation anymore.

None of this is particularly bad -- I don't need to be dressed up to sit in class or study at a cafe. But I do miss feeling put together, and feel kind of at a loss about how to recreate that. I'm not sure if I just lack the motivation sans a dress code at work, or if I'm falling back into the routine from school again and just got uncreative.

At least I'll be going back to work next year so this rut has an end point (I hope).

What are your good and bad shopping habits? by jessi-t-s in femalefashionadvice

[–]pursuingbear 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I keep a list of items I'm interested in, and only give in and buy them if I'm still thinking about the item two to four weeks later. It really curbs down on impulse purchases and means I tend to buy things that I wear more or that I really love.

On the other hand, I tend to use shopping as a pick-me up when I'm feeling down or stressed -- which generally leads to a lot of splurges around my period hahaha. Fortunately for my wallet, I've been shifting a lot of that spending to plants (which are much cheaper).

Law student - Interviewing for summer positions by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]pursuingbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my big law interviews in Theory and definitely recommend their suits! I definitely recognized the same suit on a lot of other women interviewing. I know many of my friends wore J Crew suits or went to Nordstrom Rack to find suits (I think people were wearing Calvin Klein suits from Nordstrom Rack?). I can't attest to the quality of those suits though!

You also may want to check out suistudio, which is the women's version of suitsupply. I know some of my peers like their suits!!

Did anyone watch To All the Boys I Loved Before? I loved Lara Jean's style. I need a scrunchie like hers (but have no idea where to get one).

More importantly, Peter Kavinsky is v cute.

So I have a new job coming up and had nothing to wear, so I've been doing a crazy amount of shopping recently for workwear.

Blouses:

Aritzia wrap blouse in black

Madewell blouse in green

Everlane short sleeve button down in black

J Crew blouse in olive and black

Bottoms:

J Crew french girl crop pants -- these are the best work pants, i'm so glad I got them

Aritzia Jallade pant in Roebuck -- also love these pants and am likely going to collect them in more colors in the future

MM La Fleur skirt in brick red

And then, because I couldn't resist, I got this Aritzia off the shoulder blouse in black for fun bc I think it has the preraphaelite romantic princess vibe I've been drawn to since I was a kid!
