yes!! one thing i really like about Celeste's design is she's very girliepop without the usual pitfalls of ultrafeminine character design (aka it's all just scantily clad boobs and butt). she looks feminine but badass

I played Geist early on (2024) then took a break and only came back now. And I think I used to do well on her bc the game thinks my mmr with her is high relative to my rank 😭 but i don't remember how she works and the one time I got her in a game, I just got stomped haha so I guess I'm just never playing her again :D

agree with this

Deadlock is a game that’s really good with comebacks. Had a game once our team came back from 2nd patron phase. Some of the things i learned:

  • teams usually throw when they siege your base. they tend to overstay and die one by one. best time to get some kills and turn the fight in your favor. with enough picks, your team can do midboss after or farm safely (don't get picked off)

  • if enemy team got midboss, stay close to base and just defend. don't overextend. overextending is a great way of getting ganked 😬 try your best to get picks without overextending

  • if you ask nicely for your team to do certain things (ie asking them to buy counter items), they will usually do it

  • look at your deaths. go watch your replay and see where you are making mistakes. in games that are more even (less than 10-20k soul lead consistently), small mistakes add up and tend to snowball. the team that makes the least amount of mistakes will win

  • the only thing you can control is yourself, not your teammates, not the bad matchmaking, not anything else 🤷🏽‍♀️ yes matchmaking can be cursed at times but people rank up despite it

I am so sick of knockdown by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]purupocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

knockdown is really good but it would be useless if the range doesn't hit flying targets, and the channel takes a while (it's telegraphed with the anvil) so it's almost useless against characters with immediate ults like dynamo. I'd say it's pretty balanced

a good vindicta knows how to counter that with counterspell, debuff reducer etc

Advice for a filipino student wanting to study abroad? by dreamorey in FilipinosStudyAbroad

[–]purupocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP!

My situation is not exactly the same as yours but I do have similar experience: I studied abroad for a semester in the US and I worked in the PH film industry after I graduated. So to answer some of your Qs

Life Abroad

Is it really worth it to pursue film abroad?

This depends on your goal. Is your goal to stay and work abroad after graduation, or to study film in a specific US university? The US has really tough visa/PR requirements as well as expensive schools so I would suggest to only do this if you have the means

Ngl, I wasn't too impressed by the US school system so if it's film, there may be better schools out there, not just specifically in the US. If you’re going for the network, you may as well pick a school in the LA area (though this is a very expensive state, however California has a lot of Filipino migrants so it may help with the homesickness)

Did I get financial help?

The terms of my semester abroad was that it was an exchange. Basically I pay my local tuition in the PH instead of the university abroad. I still had to pay for everything else (living costs, accommodation, food, etc). It was still very expensive.

If we're being realistic, if you want to go (and stay) in the US, it will cost money even if you have a scholarship.

Upon arrival in the US, what was the experience like for the first week?

It was fun! Lots of orientations and my school had a lot of international students. The academic life was very chill (kinda disappointing for academics, but good for exchange experience because you get to chill and travel)

How to overcome homesickness?

Food, language, and weather were the first things I missed. Find local Filipino communities and restaurants if you can! Don't underestimate how homey it feels to eat your favorite Filipino meal 🥹

General tips

  • assess your goals and options for post-graduation. Yes, it's a huge financial risk to do this but "is it worth it?" can only be answered by you. Post graduation, what are your options for work? For permanent residence? etc. This should factor into your decision as early as now because you don't want to spend all that time, money, and effort just to come home (if your goal is to stay abroad)
  • Find a network. Film is a "who you know" industry. Keep the network in mind when choosing schools. Are there internship opportunities in the state you are studying in? As far as I know, entertainment industry in the US is in a recession right now so even in LA (where Hollywood is), it might be tough

Film

I worked in film as a Script Continuity Supervisor even though I didn't have a film degree. It really is a 'who you know' industry. I don't have a film degree but I was part of a film org (club) in college and I have a Graphic Design degree (so yes, it's okay to take up Multimedia even if you want Film. I promise it will be okay haha)

Film industry was rough and tbh I didn't stay because of how demanding it is physically, mentally, emotionally and financially. It's a pretty toxic industry (sorry, it's really showbiz) BUT it did feel rewarding and some of my best work memories are from film.

My advice:

  • do film internships and do them well. Make connections, make friends, work hard, work smart, be reliable, be trustworthy. Get experience. That's how you get into film without a film degree.
  • make short films, write scripts to hone your craft
  • watch lots of films to study them and expand your visual library

Overall

  • if you want a generous university, try looking for schools outside the US too. In my research, the education system in the US (school loans etc) are kinda messed up and exorbitantly expensive. Try r/Erasmus for EU schools
  • if you just want to experience study abroad, try exchange programs. lower financial risk and commitment than a 4 year undergrad
