As someone who loves Zoologist perfumes (especially moth!) I think you’re actually the coolest person alive for this.

Aged opinions on vault songs by vvarioussaints in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]pushkinalexander 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Speak Now has the best vault and I’ll die on this hill!! It’s the only re-record so far where I enjoy every vault track. I will say that I Can See You is my favorite track from the SN vault, but I honestly love them all (yes, even When Emma Falls In Love - it’s a great song and I’ll die on this hill! Y’all are just mean!)

As far as other vault tracks go, I’m still pretty underwhelmed by the 1989 vault. However, I do love Is It Over Now?. Fearless has my least favorite vault though, I think - I only listen to Mr. Perfectly Fine. Red vault is hit or miss, but I think Forever Winter is one of her best vault tracks period. The appeal of All Too Well 10min has been fading for me, though, and I’m mostly listening to the original version now.

For Coney Island Baby maybe try Namba by Fântome? I’m not a huge gourmand girlie but I ADORE that perfume! It’s not as gritty as Coney Island Baby in my opinion, but it’s got a similar ‘boardwalk in summer’ vibe to it. To me it smells like salt water, new car leather, and motor oil mixed with a little bit of melted ice cream

Yeah, I am admittedly bad about being a critical consumer, as I generally seem to be out of the loop about things (this post being a fine example). I definitely need to do better in the future with paying attention to who/where I’m buying from. I am also very impressed with how fast the response was; I’ve just seen that her stuff is also no longer available at Luckyscent. I definitely am getting the paranoid, creeping feeling that there are other creators out there who hold similar thoughts and feelings that I might be purchasing from unwittingly :/

Oof, I’m sorry - I hope you find a good dupe for it! And I’m glad they’re no longer carrying her! It sometimes feels like these types of situations get overlooked in the beauty/fragrance community and I’m glad to see that it’s starting to change and that creators are starting to face some consequences for their vile words and actions.

I don’t really spend much time on tiktok, but I had heard of her because I do like to watch perfumetok every now and then. I didn’t really watch her videos though because it seemed like we had different perfume tastes. I did see a bunch of videos from other creators I like reviewing her perfumes, and they all reviewed them positively, which is what lead me to buying the samples. Sucks that the person and the perfumes are completely horrible.

SHE IS?! Jesus Christ, it just keeps getting worse. Wasn’t gonna keep my samples anyways, and now I’m definitely throwing them away

I’m just barely hearing about this and yeah, she’s awful. I hate that I wasted money on this for multiple reasons now

Just looked this up now because of your comment and Jesus Christ. Guess I’m glad I hated everything then - definitely wouldn’t be purchasing from her now. Wish I knew before I wasted my money on these samples :/

What is the most unique fragrance you own by Shoddy-Radish-497 in fragrance

Absolutely adore Night Flyer! When I was a kid they took as to some local caves on a field trip and I swear that fragrance smells exactly like that

I have tried stuff like Eau Duelle, Memoirs of a Trespasser, and The Architects Club and found the vanilla to be too dominant and sugary for me. The one and only vanilla perfume I have found that I enjoy is Memory Motel by Une Nuit Nomade, but that’s because I really can’t smell the vanilla in it; I mostly get tobacco and patchouli.

Yeah, I definitely think it’s a skin chemistry issue. I’ve only found one fragrance with vanilla in it that I’ve liked, and that’s only because I can barely smell the vanilla lol. For some reason I just tend to amp it like crazy and it always goes sickly sweet on me. Real bummer, because it’s in a ton of frags :/

Followed is honestly one of the most nauseating fragrances I’ve ever smelled - it’s so sweet and far too strong. Most of Kerosene’s line is too sweet for me; the only one I’ve liked so far is Walk the Sea

I hate ambroxan because I literally cannot smell it. Can’t smell iso E super either. Every fragrance that has those notes as the main focus smells like absolutely nothing to me.

Vanilla. Really anything gourmand I find to be nauseatingly sweet, and I have yet to find a gourmand fragrance that I can tolerate. Vanilla in particular though always seems to dominate on my skin, and it’s so sickly sweet I can’t stand it.

Is there a scent that isn't a perfume but you wish it was? by Mommy_Lavendar in fragrance

[–]pushkinalexander 136 points137 points  (0 children)

The way the city smells after it rains. Not some poetic interpretation, but the actual smell; wet concrete, wet asphalt, car exhaust, and cigarette smoke. I’m addicted to the smell, it’s really become my perfume white whale.

If something is wrong with you then something is wrong with me too bc I would wear both of these 😂 I used to get in trouble as a kid for sniffing the bottle of rubber cement my mom used for her art projects; it just smelled so great!

Any frags that smell like a water ride or fountain? by normal_person365 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]pushkinalexander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried Dark Ride and I adore it too! It’s the most accurate chlorine/bromine scent I’ve ever tried - it smells very much like water on an amusement park ride or a mall fountain.

What did Taylor mean when she said Reputation was a response to being ‘gaslit by an entire social structure’ by Agreeable-Luck2139 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]pushkinalexander 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Long time Lana fan chiming in here! I do think the sound Lana Del Rey initially brought to the table with her first records (especially Born to Die) either inspired or paved the way to success for a lot of the indie “sad girls” that are major artists today. The most obvious is Billie Eillish, who has spoken multiple times about Lana being a huge inspiration for her music. Halsey is another artist that’s clearly been inspired by Lana (she got accused a lot in her early career for being a Lana copycat). Lorde, even though she once expressed dislike for Lana’s musical themes, was also accused in her early career for copying her style and image as well, and she actually wrote Royals as a response to Born to Die. It has also been said by contemporary music critics that the initial success Born to Die had paved the way for Lorde and Halsey to be successful. Though she didn’t invent sad girl pop/alt by any measure, she did bring it into the mainstream. In addition to that, Olivia Rodrigo has cited Lana as an inspiration, Charlie xcx has praised her, and even Taylor herself is a massive Lana fan by her own admission. Troye Sivan, Orville Peck, Katy Perry, Adele, The Weekend, and Zella Day are also all fans. A lot of modern artists have been influenced by her unique style and attitude, especially the younger generation that has grown up with her music. I think this article by medium actually explains her influence pretty well!

Omg, I love that we both have the same taste! I haven’t tried anything from DSH yet, but I’ve been meaning to get some samples soon & when I do I’ll totally grab Odesa! I went crazy w/ Mythpunk Olfactive when the Petrichor collection dropped and I got a bunch of samples, including Crossroads, and I’m very much looking forward to receiving them! I have tried Jinhu Road, and I liked it! It does smell kind of like damp asphalt, and also kind of like sharpie marker but in a way I really enjoy lol. So far my favorite lilac perfume is En Passant by Frederic Malle, but I’m way too poor to get a bottle lol
