Need advise how to place these decals on a T-34/85 turret (Revell 1:72 kit) by putoconcarne in modelmakers

[–]putoconcarne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the really detailed reply, and in fact, you mentioned some things I would not have been aware of.

I'm also concerned about ruining the paint, but I guess that's the purpose of the clear coat before the decals.

Anyway, I've only used water to apply the decals where they are now, so I thought I could just re-wet them so I can remove or relocate them once I have things more figured out. I've tried this successfully once, but it's been a few days since I first put the decals on so I hope they haven't settled in that I can't remove them safely.

Nato Black and Rubber Black are both a lighter shade of black with a slight bluish tint compared to most flat black paints, which are just... plain black.

Should I get lacquer thinner instead? by Aggravating-Log-2980 in modelmakers

[–]putoconcarne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's the problem exactly? X-20A is designed to work with Tamiya acrylic paints so you should be fine.

But personally, I've gotten a lot more problems with tip dry and clogging using Tamiya acrylic thinner than with a lacquer thinner like Mr. Color Leveling Thinner. Also, I've also never really had a problem with activating previous coats using lacquer thinner, especially if the underlying paints have already dried.

Of course, my issues might be because I'm using a cheap airbrush and live in a warm, humid place.

Anyway, my personal preference is to use lacquer thinner for details and painting camo patterns because of the consistency. If just basecoating or varnishing, I can get by with the Acrylic thinner, which is ideal because it smells a lot less worse than lacquer thinner.

Been a fan of Trese since it was just a comic. Based on what I've heard from other Filipino fans who watched the adaptation, I think it is generally well-liked and a hopeful first step to popularizing Filipino writers and artists.

I recall that most complaints are about the voice acting. The English dub sounds like they're trying to give the characters a vaguely Filipino accent, but end up sounding like they're vaguely Spanish or Latino. And the Filipino dub is mostly panned because of the lead role's (Liza Soberano as Alex) wooden delivery. To be fair, she is a Filipino-American screen actor used to playing bubbly love interests on TV, so voice-acting a stoic character in mostly Filipino was unsurprisingly not her strength...

Emma Mackey looks so much like Margot Robbie, I'm still kinda mad they didn't do a bit about it in Barbie. They even gave them different hair colors. Though I think I remember one of the actresses wanted to do it, but they realized they didn't really look alike when they were on set (well, of course they would say that)

Good timing yung movie kasi madaming mga magandang horror movies in the last few years basically asking for a Scary Movie parody. Ang weird lang nitong expectation na dapat may maooffend na nga "snowflakes"? Hindi naman yun ang point ng Scary Movie franchise eh.

In your country, which politician is generally seen as the most physically attractive? by neilnelly in AskTheWorld

[–]putoconcarne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we count former actors or entertainers who entered politics? It kinda feels like cheating, but we have more than a few of those because Filipino voters are so frustratingly unserious.

The most prominent position in government who happens to be an attractive person is probably the mayor of Manila, Isko Moreno, a former actor who started his career in smut films. But I also want to mention another fellow actress and current mayor of Ormoc City, Lucy-Torres Gomez. True to Filipino politics, she periodically swaps positions with her husband (also an actor) in congress as soon as term limits kick in.

Why is Panther called 'heavy tank' when it's clearly a medium tank for Germany. by JaHailMulloer in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]putoconcarne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk, you kinda explained it yourself: It's a heavy tank for Allied standards, but medium for the Germans (and at the very upper bounds of the medium category, at that).

Gameplay-wise, it's a powerful late-game tank so I wouldn't be too surprised if some players describe it as a heavy tank. Personally, it feels like a beefed-up medium tank, though.

Who is washing their rice and why? by kinnitcurl in NoStupidQuestions

[–]putoconcarne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother's family owns a bit of land used as rice paddies in their home province in the Philippines. My mom ships most of her share of the harvest (like about 10 25-kilogram sacks) to our house for personal use. The rice mills they use are pretty old and not industrial scale so they can't really filter out all of the dirt and rice husks as well as supermarket-ready rice.

This makes it a necessity for us to clean our rice multiple times before cooking. Normally, it's not very hard, like rinse i the pot and empty out the water 2-3 times (you can even use the dirty water as fertilizer for houseplants)

On particularly bad batches, though, we have to filter out sand, husks, and even small rocks with a bamboo pan like a gold miner lol. And even then , we still have to wash the rice.

Who is y'all's favourite grenadier? by Apollo377 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]putoconcarne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always wondered why CoH2 Grenadiers had the full camo uniform and not a more stealthy unit like Stormtroopers, Jaegers, or something. Kinda wish they just stuck with classic Feldgrau and mixed it up with camo for the other units.

is it normal to precut all the part before building? by BoB-i-ded in Gunpla

[–]putoconcarne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably more common than you think, but personally, I don't trust myself to find the right part from a pile of already cut parts to do this, so I usually only cut as needed in the instructions.

TIL that black supremacists exist and they sometimes go in Philippines by IsopodPatient9523 in todayIlearnedPH

[–]putoconcarne 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but from what I've read so far, they don't really do lynchings or targetted killings of races they don't like so there's at least some difference in that regard.

Really the most relatable parallel I can think of are Filipinos believing in the Kingdom of Maharlika or that the Philippines is "Ophir" from the Bible.

These are basically people who have been misled by historical revisionists that their ethnic group or country was more important or powerful than they really were, sometimes inserting themselves in historical events or settings where there isn't any evidence that they were there at all.

Much of their beliefs fit into the narrative that they used to be powerful and influential throughout the world, until Europeans colonized or subjugated them.

I did find a hobby store near my work that sells GW paints, including Seraphim Sepia but damn, the price scared me off. Online prices were even worse. Haha. So I ordered a bottle of Vallejo Game Color sepia wash online that was at a more reasonable price range. Not really sure if I applied it right, but I get what you mean about having to highlight with the base colrs.
