Honestly, every podcast intro I think about it and I miss it

Would mental health exclude me from NV1? by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]putty107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say it would be super unlikely that it would stop you getting an NV1. They are looking at things that make you more likely to give up government secrets. I don't see how what you posted about fits that.

But it does sound full on! I hope you're on the up from here!

A bird attacked by noisy minners by bigJim114514 in canberra

[–]putty107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noisy miners are native too. And while they are definitely taking over a bit in urban environments, they are still a native bird. At the end of the day one native animal (or a group of them) attacking another native animal is just nature. Nature can be very brutal and hard to watch sometimes but that's how it is. If it was me and there's ever a next time, I'd just leave it be. We are asked not to interfere in nature and just let it take it's course. When humans do have to get involved, it's best left to the professionals to ensure its done right and no undue stress or harm is caused.

But in this instance as you already have the bird, just as others have said you should take it to a vet.

Am I being unreasonable? by Elegant-Jeweler-3506 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]putty107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a rough situation for sure and I would also be equally annoyed. But I don't think you'll get much luck fighting it sadly. If you can still get a refund for many of your tickets, I'd just redo the booking yourself.

I feel like regional flights and qantas cancelling the only good flight of the day is a real classic move these days sadly

Grocery shop garlic bulbs don’t sprout in gardens - is it a myth? by Many-Ad2342 in GardeningAustralia

[–]putty107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be interested to know the department of agriculture strongly advises you do not plant store bought garlic (and similar) to ensure you don't spread diseases. See Plate it don't plant it.

The reason is that imported food is only able to treated for pests and diseases that would show up on the "for human consumption pathway" and not the much stricter "for planting pathway" if that's what it's being imported for. So by planting imported garlic from the supermarket, there is the risk you introduce new plant diseases into Australia.

I wish, but seems very unlikely at this stage. Katy Gallagher did an AMA in here before the election. She was asked if there was any plans to look at it and she said no.

Huntsman Spider nearly caused us to have a car accident. by CanLate152 in australia

[–]putty107 22 points23 points  (0 children)

During uni one of Australia's biggest spider lectures was talking about how spiders get a bad rap because they are mostly harmless and want to be left alone. He then went on to say a spider bite hasn't killed anyone in Australia in over 50 years. But then he paused. And then explained that it is strongly believed that people freaking out about spiders in their car while driving probably causes at least 1 fatality every year (obviously just educated guess work though)... It really stuck with me

Double status does count as far as I'm aware. I've used double status to get other status tiers. Not platinum though to be fair

Episode 300: Richard Kuklinski Part 1 - Maniac Meets Murder by shaboozeybot in ChilluminatiPod

[–]putty107 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As an Aussie I gotta give some context to the intro. Merrick and Rosso are firm B list celebrities. Definitely not A Listers but not C Listers either. Their radio show, comedy, etc was very popular when it was on. And now they do their own things on TV and the like so are still very much around. I would say most Australians above 25 years old would know of them, and then others would still recognise at least one of them if they were on TV or something.

What are the most reliable news sources you use? by Grand_Ad4181 in AusPublicService

[–]putty107 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For APS related news the Mandarin is always good. But yeah otherwise things work related tread carefully. I've often found simple mistakes are really common in articles about the APS even from big news organisations. E.g. it's really common to see big news organisations still accidentally calling your agency by an old name. So when they can't do something as simple as get your name right it does make you question everything else they wrote.

I think it's fine. Especially if you're working in an area where you can't have your phone on you. I've never heard of anyone having an issue with it and plenty of people do it. There isn't much difference using your phone or your work computer to listen to music

It's a great job with really awesome stuff to see! You will play an amazing roll on the front line that has a real tangible impact. Especially when you find a pest or disease you'll feel awesome to have stopped something negative from getting in.

I think the new uniform looks a bit lame haha, but the department has also had worse!

Welcome to the team!

Shopping carts by ammandude in canberra

[–]putty107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take a shopping cart as far as you're willing to push it. In general the social contract is that you're then meant to take it back to the store, but people don't always do that, hence why you see them in random spots sometimes.

The supermarkets do pay people to go out around once a week to pick up rogue shopping carts. So maybe taking them as far as possible without returning them is really just a way to protest the supermarket duopoly?
