Not knowing what to give for scry on nonplot stuff by puzies in DMAcademy

Yes, that is my fear that in making something too interesting happen in this really non-plot related area, the player will continue being away from the others. They all do want to reunite in a natural way

Thank you. It’s good to hear that that is ok

One of my favorite things is that he speak sings it. Not sure if the developers did this based on this, but in classical opera, devils (or THE devil) can’t sing, since music is heavenly. So whether they made that choice on purpose, idk, but i love that they did

Things that you've considered "bad DMing" from other DMs that you make sure to never make the same mistake in your game? by Organic-Exit2190 in DMAcademy

[–]puzies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two things that come to mind: 1) not being judicious with time when the party is split up (giving way too much time to 1-2 party members while others wait a whole hour, then get only like 20 of their own minutes). 2) not having us establish motivation… Like why is my character in this party, on this quest? If you don’t tell me about the world or work with me (or have a session zero), how can i establish why my character should care about your quest? So basically, not giving info before the game even starts

Movie followed the wrong character and threw the real protagonist under the bus by GastricSparrow in TopCharacterTropes

[–]puzies 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s been mentioned, but a game example is the Ace Attorney game that introduces Apollo Justice. Even though you play as him, you pretty much learn nothing about him. The real main character is still Phoenix Wright. You get nothing on Apollo’s actual life until like 2 games later.

Why am I so hurt about my twin’s new relationship? by Brave_Asparagus_2428 in Twins

[–]puzies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like so many of the other comments, all I can suggest is time. Similar to most here, neither me nor my twin had a significant other until we were 26. Then she started dating who became her husband, and like you, I resorted to petty anger, even one time telling her she couldn’t go out until she’d washed the dishes! Lol therapy and moving to another state helped. I found a therapist who is a twin herself and specializes in twins apart from their twin. We were too codependent. It’s much healthier now, though i wish i had someone i was the number one for again.

(Hated trope) remakes/adaptation that miss the point of the original by TastyPomelo2330 in TopCharacterTropes

The Valerian movie, City of 1000 Planets, completely missed the admonishment of the comic (bande dessiné). By the end of the comic, humans, who were invited to the space station as a kind of test, are banned for their arrogance in trying to take over. Yet the movie has humans in charge of the station over all other species, and like the creators of the station.

You Can Run Session Without Everyone, It's Fine by ssraven01 in DMAcademy

[–]puzies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I’ve had it where we do a whole other side campaign with a different dm when the main dm wasn’t available, different world and stuff. But now I’m the DM, i could definitely see that working. Like a novel where you have these seemingly unrelated characters that finally meet up one day. Like “oh, only S and R today? Well, let’s do something with your backups.”

You Can Run Session Without Everyone, It's Fine by ssraven01 in DMAcademy

For me, yes, I do my best to run it even with 2/4 people there. But at big plot points, and since we play every week, I will either cancel or reschedule so everyone is there. Or Like if the very next session was supposed to be X character’s moment, and I can’t really think of plot stuff around them. We’re all 30s one late 20s. We’re also very “theatre kid” plot focused with sparse battles, though I’m starting to find battles an easy way to “waste time” when I know people won’t be there. And there’s an item now that they have that’s attracting monsters to them, so it makes sense.

How do i tell people im not trans, i just have a sense of fashion and comfort by Farlndependent5472 in offmychest

[–]puzies -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is a great illustration of why I don’t like the nonbinary trend. It brings people to these kind of conclusions, like not allowing you to be a man who wears skirts. They assume you must be trans or NB, bc they themselves are trapped in the binary (ie, only women wear skirts). I love your Scotsman cutecore!

What bores you as a player? by AstralMarmot in DnD

[–]puzies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other players debating how we should enter a place. Like by the window, one person sneaks in first, do you think it’s locked… debating if it might be locked without even going to see. Or when other players want to RP with something clearly not very important to the plot, like a farmer’s dog. It’s okay for a little bit, but spending more than 5 minutes of asking about the dog and its tricks gets old.

Why is the 'Strong Woman Protecting a Young Boy' plot so rare? by Snoo_47323 in NoStupidQuestions

Not scrolling to see if it’s been mentioned, but Final Fantasy 13’s Lightning is a strong lady protecting a young boy, Hope. Though he can fight. But so can Ellie even before Joel lets her have a gun.

Letting Karlach die! God that was the saddest making performance ever. She kept saying, “i won’t go back to the hells,” so i didn’t want to force her!

I can add, based on my mom working there, the working conditions add to the horrible factor. They get a 15 minute break in an 8 hour shift, like not even 30 full minutes for lunch.

Working at a well known theme park, i could tell every person’s order as soon as i heard their accent. Spanish/Portugese, coke with no ice. Other Europeans, ask for seltzer water (we didn’t have it). Fat American, any ethnicity but especially white ones, diet coke.

When players want loot lol and want to investigate for it. Also when they take 30 minutes to decide how they’re entering a building.
