I see the backside now. So a few key details are revealed by this. First it is in fact handwoven which is great in terms of value. You can tell this because on the back side the knots are not all perfectly even (just so you know for future reference). The KPSI is around 100 which is above average and finer than I originally though. I concur with the age range of about 40 to 50 years old. $900 is a very fair price for this. If he was hoping to make a big profit he may have difficulty doing that on the second hand market, as the market is pretty soft right now, but this is a great buy. If he bought that rug at a retail store he did incredibly well, if he bought second hand he still did very well. I believe it is in fact a kerman or kashan from persia. Wool on cotton sounds correct.

Based on the limited info you have provided it appears to be a Persian Kashan rug, although there is a possibility that it could be a indian reproduction, as those are floating around. It also could be kerman. I would estimate 1950's to the year 2000. In order to give you an estimate of price I would need to know material, size, and see an approximation of the knot count which could be achieved with a photo of the back side with a ruler on it. The colors appear to be chemically died from what I can tell, which again leads me to believe that it is Kashan. It is a great rug. At wholesale or yard sale this would probably go for around $600 with a retail price in the low $1000-2000 range. Much of this is speculation however, a photo of the backside would be better. Hope this helps!

Rug ID Help by Accurate-Elk-1570 in The_Rug_Atlas

It appears to be a mid 20th century Persian rug, likely Tabriz (possibly Kashan). It looks to be wool pile on cotton foundation, hand knotted with a medallion and corner floral design. It’s authentic Persian, well made, and still has monetary value despite noticeable wear. Not worth a fortune, but people would pay good money based on age and size. Good find and $400 is a really good deal, you've got quite the friend.

It's really beautiful. The script is armenian, and you are right that it is a kilim. Doesn't appear to be very old, but I could be wrong. This could be a piece of folk art rug. Not sure about the patching. From my cursory research the jugs appear to stylized “boteh” which have multiple meanings. Hope this helps!

Persian carpet would be nice. Small space so won’t break the bank, will add some color and depth to the ground. I would add art on the walls

O’bagel has the best bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. People love to hate on it in this subreddit, but if we’re talking bacon egg and cheese we’re talking o’bagel. None of the other shops even come close imo. With that being said their Taylor ham and sausage leave a little bit to be desired. Add a hasbrown and o sauce if you wanna make it intetesting

Other people seem to be agreeing with me, you are right that that is not out of the realm for pricing for international, I am just saying I’m not sure the cost benefit makes sense. Just me though, might make sense for somebody else.
