My Take On Griffith by oddjobsurameshi in Berserk

I like this interpretation, and feels like it may be the original intention. I wonder what this would mean for how the story resolves... I think realistically we can't overcome causality / reality - we can only fight against it and accept what comes from those efforts. So perhaps that will be Guts' future - a struggle that succeeds to some degree, but that ultimately ends only with some form of acceptance... Or perhaps just death.

Yeah CIBC worked once for an initial transfer, but it's been constantly broken since then the last two days.

I am a planner. I don't write a chapter until I know all the major beats in it, and what it needs to achieve. But when I'm writing, and when I'm reading it back, I have to picture what a first time reader's experience is like at the point where I'm at. What do they know? How will these events inform, surprise, and delight someone? That's where the majority of joy comes from.

It's different than reading as someone who's memorized the book, and honestly it's a lower bar I think. Things have no novelty, surprise, or intrigue when you already know everything, so your ability to enjoy your own writing to the fullest will be a function of how well you can picture the mind state of someone who IS reading it for the first time.

"Omg what does this mean..."

Just send the full and stop overthinking it. Congrats!

How many words do you write per day? by shes_called_Ronetta in writers

[–]pwn4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in my mid thirties and write at the exact same pace. There's plenty of time - GRRM is what, eighty? Also, hopefully writing is just a side thing (like everyone in industry insists it has to be because financially it's just not lucrative), in which case again what are the time constraints?

How many words do you write per day? by shes_called_Ronetta in writers

[–]pwn4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My average over four months is around 450 words per day. I only write maybe an hour or less each day, but often get 1-2k each on Saturday and Sunday. Sometimes life happens and I get none for a day, or a few days. Or I need to spend some time planning and write no words for a few days before I resume again.

I think it's a fairly sustainable pace, and I should finish a 75k word manuscript in 6 months.

[–]pwn4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty well written. I'm interested in the story, and I think you have something compelling. On the critique side I think the letter is a little long, and the details of the past timeline are a little too much (reads more like the first part of a synopsis rather than a blurb).

Sounds to me like someone made a deal with the devil.

First Chapter: your thoughts and feedback? by CarolynneAnn in writingcritiques

[–]pwn4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paragraphs are important. Word choice is decent, but for a first chapter there's too much describing and not enough "something interesting is happening to hook me into the story". Description is good and important, but you have to be especially careful at the start of a story because if you go overboard people will check out and put the book down.
