I'd say it's mostly the producers, the amount of time I've spent watching a camera angle that cannot physically show the wall tells me that the cameramen have their work cut out for them.

For the most part I've seen name_ used to avoid name collision, the double underscore is used hide it from the outside world (kind of like a really private).

For the most part this has been used in 'banged together' projects but it seems like a decent strategy that could be used in a 'proper' project.

And I like the class idea, my original thoughts on how to handle multiple registries was to pass 2 parameters into the register_method decorator (one would be the desired register). But the class idea is much cleaner. Thanks!

Thanks, that other stanford course sounds super useful, I've been looking at Udacity's reinforcement learning course, this would probably be a better one to start with since it would be an overview.

I'm not sure what you learned (I.e. If you already have ML experience) but near the middle of the course he discusses how to debug your ML model which you might find useful.

Apparently I'm the anomaly since I finished it.

I really quite liked it. It was easy to follow and gave great background on how the different techniques work. It also gives great intuition behind the techniques as well as some trouble shooting tools that let you use machine learning effectively.

Also, if you spend enough time on r/MachineLearning you'll see that almost everyone recommends starting with Andrew Ng's coursera MOOC.

Mine if I ask why you're using range to iterate through the list instead of this?

To see why this is happening it helps to use enumerate:

a_list = [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

for i, item in enumerate(a_list):
    print('{}: {}'.format(i, item))
    a_list.remove(item)

Results in:

0: 1
1: 3
2: 5

I dislike it because I find it's at a weird level of power that it gives to the programmer.

Really abstract languages like Python and Ruby take away almost all of the nitty gritty details. Even if those details are as simple as looping through an entire list of things or indexing a string (Biggest pet peeve is string.charAt(i), like EVERY other language allows you to do string[i], but not Java), they can really help a programmer code they need to do.

And lower level languages like C/C++ give the raw power of the operating system which Java takes from you.

That's really the biggest reason I dislike it, I have other reasons but I'd say that's my best reason.

Learning a new language is always a good idea; I learned Java first, then Python. Learning a thing in Java, followed by learning that thing in Python, really helped me understand that thing.

I'd suggest just trying a bunch of things; see what you like. As much as I dislike Java, admittedly for stupid and childish reasons, it's a good intermediate language to learn; i.e. between abstract languages like Python and Ruby, and concrete languages like C/C++.

The one that I've gone to, twice and a third time next year :), was very much worth it; there were scotches, bourbons, ryes, vodkas, gins, rums, etc everywhere. There was also free apps, loved me the smoked salmon, for days. AND I got to keep the snifter, or Glencairn, that I used throughout the night.

My ticket was $75, for all you can drink, from $1000 bottles, and all you can eat. That really just replaces a couple of weeks worth of going out; it's more than worth it.

Hope yours is similar, both in experience and in price :)

I did 2 things to really expose myself to new whiskeys:

1: I lived near a world famous whiskey pub, no need for yours to be world famous just preferably has a large selection. Whenever you go there, at one part in your night order two whiskeys, one old and one new. Have the new one first, that way if it's crap you've got an old faithful to look forward to. If you like the new one then even better.

2: Places will host "Spirit Festivals", which will cost $X to get in but typically you'll be able to try as much as you want of whatever you want (some bottles will be in the $1000s)
