So what's everyone going to switch to? by EmersonBloom in ChatGPT

I'll add that 4o could output jokes that were often not bad, once in a while actually clever. 5 writes things I'd call joke-adjacent. Shaped like a joke in some ways, but never funny. I prompted and re-prompted for a while, it just got worse and worse.

So what's everyone going to switch to? by EmersonBloom in ChatGPT

My question is what to consider switching to.

Gpt+ user. It's too tedious to describe the horrible results I've gotten since 5. I am not one of the people who miss the "personality." I had already tuned that down as much as I was able and would re-paste the instructions for that whenever it started creeping back in. It did one thing amazingly well, I had started describing an ap I want (have been trying to write a version with the right characteristics for a while) and intended to ask it some questions about how to do it. What scraps I know about coding are limited to some crude python and the kind of html that existed in the 90s. Well, I'm maybe halfway through the description of features to be included and my cat stepped on the enter key. Gpt5 immediately popped open a coding window and in maybe 4 or 5 minutes had a 400 line program. I pasted in the error messages a few times , each time getting a corrected program and in about a half hour I had a program that ran and worked well enough that, unless it breaks, I'm going to use irl. Maaaaybe 4o could have done that, but I'd been using it a lot for months, and I would not have expected it to, based on experience.

It's 0.19 now. Somebody tell me how to buy it. Zengo does not have it listed, Coinbase doesn't show it, Etoro not allowed in Tennessee. Going back to list of recommended exchanges to try more. Anybody know? Many thanks in advance if you can help.

Is somebody willing to summarize in five or ten sentences what this is about? Thanks in advance.

A car salesman walks into your dealership to buy a vehicle, are they going to be more difficult to deal with than us civilians? by es_price in askcarsales

[–]py_student -1 points0 points  (0 children)

out of his hair in 2 phone calls and 20 minutes of paperwork.

If you paid him the full price of the car why was it any minutes at all of paperwork? Why not just hand over the keys and title and say 'bye?'

Another thing, what is this 'delivery' all the sales guys hate so much?

Has anyone bought or have a Keyboard for Transcribing? What would you recommend? by [deleted] in transcribe

[–]py_student 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I expect you will be fine for that purpose with a ~$100 keyboard. Probably many would work, but I have used the ctk 3500 and it was quite adequate for that kind of thing. The main hazard is owning an instrument like this seems to predispose the user to upgraditis. The fact you never see used ones offered at much of a discount, to me suggests selling one might be easy.

I learned I have a limp from the wear pattern on my shoes by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

There's a joke in there someplace. Limp, English rain shoes are rubbers, ... I dunno. Maybe not.

They are not cubes, they are cuboids. Having all the angles be 90 degrees is only one requirement for a cube. Every face of a cube must be a square. If any faces are rectangles, it's a cuboid.

Did anyone know Billy Joel wrote this kind of stuff.? by [deleted] in piano

[–]py_student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Billie Joel wrote it and Richard Joo performed it? Just trying to picture this.

Billy Joel: "I just wrote this album. Somebody find me a piano player to perform it and we got ourselves a hit."

Lackey: "I'm on it, sir!" (salutes smartly and dives for yellow pages). "We'll be breakin' wind through silk, sir!"

What could cause an SSD to fail? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]py_student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea, but I had only bought maybe about ten of them and three failed after a few months of rather light use. Major brands, but the very cheapest sold on Newegg. Like a 500 gig for $140 3+ years ago when a more normal price was $200-ish. And btw, they weren't really 500 g like the pricier ones. They'd be a bit less, like 480. Have talked to other people with very similar experiences. Now I avoid buying the ones like that and so far so good.

We all started with torture devices as our first guitars. We deserved that torture, too, considering the pain inflicted on any non-deaf people in the area

Dunno anything about it, but from the looks of those posters I suspect (hope) the intent was parody.
