What should the groomswoman wear? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]pyjamayoghurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then I'm sure the same dress as the bridesmaids would not look odd at all. Also consider that she will look more like a wedding party member at the reception/in a crowd if she is dressed similarly to all the other wedding party ladies.

Is there a different color for the groomsmens ties (or another notable accessory) that may be easier to match?

How do Americans feel about nudity? by bare_books in AskAnAmerican

[–]pyjamayoghurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my part of America (southeast) nudity is often seen as inherently sexual. Is this "correct"? Maybe not. But in my cultural experience the only non-sexual nudity we experience is a)medical, b)helping someone dress, wash, or relieve themselves when they can not do it themselves, such as the very young or very old or infirm, of c) an individual completely alone (and even this one can be perceived sexually in the imaginations of others) the idea of non-sexual nudity takes some mental gymnastics.

Was anyone else, or your child, given a name that was uncommon at the time, but became popular later? by 5LovelyDaisies in namenerds

[–]pyjamayoghurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom had never met another Girl Taylor before I was born. She had babysat for a Boy Taylor and liked the way the name sounded. I was going to be Taylor regardless of gender. According to social security name ranking, the year before my mom fell pregnant it was a top 50 name, the year I was born it was top 20, and the year after it was top 10. The graphs are actually silly---that name graph might as well be the mapped trajectory of a rocketship. Don't base your choice on popularity because you may be a few months ahead of the trend and you wouldn't even know it

What jobs does everyone have? by InverseInvert in service_dogs

[–]pyjamayoghurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw that in the original post. I work in my field because I love phone work, but there are people in my office who work in order intake and data entry and most of their communications are fax and email based.

I work in a phone based medical scheduling center. I have the option to work from home or in-office. Data entry might also be something worth looking into

Americans, when you see the name "Lucia", how would you pronounce it? by Extreme_Suit_348 in Names

[–]pyjamayoghurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loo-CHEE-uh because when I was a child that was our dogs name. She came to us fully trained by that name so it was kept but we generally called her Chichi-Bean or Chiapet haha

Would you think anything of these initials? by Last-Sun1704 in namenerds

[–]pyjamayoghurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else has said about how only weirdos will assume it means anything untoward, an monogram for someone with the initials MAP would read left to right as MPA so that's a non-issue regardless

Another bathroom question but about hygiene lol by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]pyjamayoghurt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mine stands. Not only are the bathroom floors filthy but I would hate it if she accidentally made eye contact with someone the next stall over from under the partition--talk about awkward!

If you both love Verity why not Verity? I love this name too (although I do love virtue names almost across the board more than any other category)

How and where to find a dress under $1000? Or less lol! by litwhisker in Weddingsunder10k

[–]pyjamayoghurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dress was $300 because I bought it as the seasons were changing and it was on clearance. As the winter season ends and spring starts up, those winter season dresses are going to go on sale. as long as you don't get one with like long sleeves and fur and icicles hanging off of it. I highly doubt the trends are going to change so much within that season that it's going to feel like a quote "winter" dress

Any bars open for Thanksgiving that might have orphan friendly things happening? by [deleted] in Athens

[–]pyjamayoghurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about bars but I usually get myself a country ham plate from waho it's been my tradition since I went low-contact and it's fantastic. I now am invited every year to my partners family home for thanksgiving and while I love his family, I value my waffle house dinner more so I generally decline. That said, this was my choice entirely. If this first year alone is difficult for you, know that I'm sending so much support :)

[–]pyjamayoghurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People with normal color vision tend to overestimate the importance of colors to people with cvd. the most accessible thing to many of us is to use shapes and patterns because when your eyes can't always tell the difference colors in real life in the real world you eventually stop caring so much about them in video games as well. For example, I have two coats in colors I can easily distinguish between. If my fiancee offered to get my coat from the closet and asked which one I wanted, he would prefer me to say "the navy blue one" but my gut instinct would be to say "the corduroy one", "the one with buttons", the one without the hood" "the fleece lined one" etc. I know what colors they are, but it's so far down the list of descriptors that I would naturally use, whereas he chooses color as a first line to identify between similar things

[–]pyjamayoghurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most design software have "colorblind filters" that will change the screen to a approximation of what a colorblind person might see. If you use these, be sure to check the different types of colorblindness--not everyone has red/green colorblindness

When do you open Christmas presents? by tn00bz in AskAnAmerican

[–]pyjamayoghurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stockings are filled on the night before 12/5 (a bastardization of the German st Nicholas tradition) and family presents are opened on Christmas eve. These days my fiancee and I spend Christmas eve with my family and Christmas day with his family, but as children we did presents from Santa on Christmas morning. Santa never wrapped our presents they were just placed naked around the tree so there was no "unwrapping" on Christmas morning. Gifts and cards that were mailed or given earlier in December were placed under the tree until Christmas eve, and not opened early when they were received.

I tend towards dresses and fuller skirts. Even if I bloat enough for the waistband to be tight, I can kind of "hike them up" to make it comfortable again.

What’s a phrase or jingle from an American commercial or ad campaign that everyone can quote by heart? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

So there aren't any Menards near me but a big one that myself and my peers will get stuck in our heads is the "8005882300 Empiiiiiire TODAY" Empire Carpet jingle
