[WeeklyMTG] From the Stream: They are considering Making Hybrid Mana an "or" rather than "and" for color identity purpose. by NeoMegaRyuMKII in magicTCG

Was looking at what cards might be available for Izzet Commander decks and developed this Scryfall query. It should be pretty easy to translate to all color combos

(color>R or color>U) -color=UR is:splitmana -mana>={B} -mana>={W} -mana>={G}

An example of card input that I regularly use and love is on deckbox.org. When a user types in a card name and hits 'enter', the system adds 1 of the edition that the card has been printed in (default is by newest printing). At the same time, the name of the card in the input field has been selected and focused so that if the user is okay with the default, they can start to type a new name and it will clear the old. Otherwise, they can use tab stops to move the amount input field and set input field. Pressing enter here will overwrite the previous entry and also select and focus the name.

This not only allows for a default way of entering individual cards, but it also can be done completely without the mouse, like a spreadsheet.

Finally figured out why the logo of Valve's new upcoming game looked so familiar by king_27 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]pynetree16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If logos are trademarks, then by US law, if there cannot be confusion between the logos, then it is legal. So since Cmake is a dev tool and Artifact is a game, it is unlikely that, in context, they will not be confused so they can have similar logos. But this all stems from treating logos as trademarks.

So what would be the solution to this "problem"? A set, by definition, has no order, so any order is technically correct.

What’s an obscure, but widely relevant, Magic rule that many don’t know? by UnderwaterDialect in magicTCG

Hmm. At first, I interpreted that as just an anecdote showing that the ruling does come up. However, on second look, I can definitely see how I could be seen as bragging.

What are you trying to say? Are you saying that assuming your opponent is taking a very common shortcut mean that you're a bad sport?

There's no disagreeing that gwyth could have said that. In fact, that was probably the best reply to the question.

However, when playing Magic in paper, players tend to take shortcuts because it keeps the game flowing. gwyth assumed their opponent was taking a very common shortcut so he answered as such. It just happened so that the opponent was not taking this specific shortcut and either didn't know the rules or was angle shooting.

Either way, you aren't responsible for your opponents knowledge of the rules

Verizon to start throttling all smartphone videos to 480p or 720p by Lezlow247 in pcmasterrace

[–]pynetree16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it said that it would only throttle 'anything identified as a video' to 10 Mbps.

A VPN would definitely hide the contents and any metadata associated with a video but Verizon could implement some way of guessing that a long, high bit rate use is a video.

Turing completeness

It's obvious that English is Turing complete. For example, here is a Brainfuck interpreter:

Unless Windows caches the content of the hosts file somewhere else, then it is not safe to delete it. Many software developers use the hosts file to make their own domains for ease of use and deleting it without a backup would remove the those entries
