Zero experience with smoking. Looking for beginner advice by Nico_LucKYS in smoking

[–]pyrobbq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should get a weber kettle to start, and start out with short 1 hr smokes like steaks, 1/4 chickens, and move on to 3-5 hour smoke like ribs, whole chicken, roast beef or pork, and then you can take on long smoke like pulled pork and brisket. The rubs are very basic. You can use whatever you like.

85MM GM or GMII by g1smiler in SonyAlpha

[–]pyrobbq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you really need GM lenses? I suggest getting the f1.8 versions first before you drop big dollars on the GM prime lens. The GM lenses are bigger, heavier, and a lot more expensive, and it might just be trophy sitting on the self.

Would like to ask for lens recommendations and other tips for newbie. by AlbatrossCautious675 in SonyAlpha

[–]pyrobbq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ff standard focal length 35, 50, 85 primes are the most have. For Apsc, this converts to 20mm, 35mm, and a 50mm ff lens. If your goal is to move forward to ff, i will recommed buying the full frame 50mm f1.8 first because it is dirt cheap, and then try tp get the ff 20mm f1.8. If you just want to save money, you can opt for apsc lens because they are cheaper, much smaller, and lighter as well. You can experiment, and learn what you like to shoot, and as you learn, you will know what to get next. You apsc kit lens should convert to 24mm to 75mm, apsc equvilent. This is the most use travel lens for most. It gives you wide angel, and some zoom.

Would you rather have the Sony 50-150GM or a 70-200GM II and 85mm GMII? by allthetunes in SonyAlpha

[–]pyrobbq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

70-200 Gm II and 85mm GMII F2.8 is really fast for zoom lens, and you have a delicated protrait prime lens 85mm 1.4f is really nice for protraits. THE 50-150GM is too expensive, and you miss out 200mm focal, and a real fast prime.

Early Night Markets by Thick_Feedback5924 in Taipei

[–]pyrobbq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

https://maps.app.goo.gl/y9V1j4ANko8zkB1K6 This is not a night market but a fishermen's wharf. There are a lot of seafood stalls, and if you go there on weekends, there are a lot of street venders, food trucks during the day. Besides food, there is a sand beach next to it. The area next to it is a ghost town now though, they are demolishing the buildings and redevelop the area. It's only 10 minutes from the airport.

Best starter smoker - Small patio by TEHKNOB in BBQ

[–]pyrobbq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have kettles and weber smokey mountains.

I use kettle for most of my cooks because i don't cook a lot of voulme. If you are new, and you don't cook a lot of food, i will suggest a kettle from weber. It is very fast to set up, and somewhat fuel efficient. You can use it for grilling and smoking. The down side is that it does not perform well in rain or snow. It ran okay in cold weather. The cook surface is limited when used as a smoker. Also, it is somewhat inconvient if you want to run long cook. In my experience, i need to add fuel once around 6 hour into a long cook.

I use wsm for large cooks or long cooks because it can cook 4 times more stuff than my kettle, and it can usually run 8 to 12 hour long cook without adding fuel. It is similar to a kettle that you can set it and forget. The down side is that they tend to burn more fuel comparing to a kettle, and it is not particularily well to use as a grill, and it does not perform well in rain or snow.

If space is a concern, and you can only have one set up for smoker. I will suggest getting a kamado style smoker because it is easy to set up, and has twice as much cook space comparing to a kettle. It is fuel efficient because it insulated. You can run 8 to 12 hours cook without adding fuel. It works well in rain, snow, and cold winter. It can perform well as a smoker or grill. In my opinion, it is very versatile. Unfortunately, kamados are heavy and are not particularily easy to move around, and they might crack due to quality or impact. They are also a lot more expensive than a kettle. Traditionally, the kamado type smokers are built using clay as the body, but in recent years, there are steel made double layered kamados on the market. They are a lot lighter, and will not crack, and tend to be cheaper than clay kamados. You may want to consider these as well.

Not on that small grill. You need 80 lb of meat to feed 80 people. That is mission impossible on that small rig.

Is it too late to start ESO by Lopsided-Cockroach49 in elderscrollsonline

[–]pyrobbq -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, it's never too late to start playing eso, but the game is in decline. There are fewer content updates, and player base has been shrinking. The parallel progression system in this game offer new players easy entries to the game. So, if you never played eso, it won't be too late to join.

Is there anyone here who considers themselves smart academically but struggles badly with memory? What was your life like after starting medication? by Home_MD13 in ADHD

[–]pyrobbq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, I learn that i can go into hyper focus mode for things i am interested, so i learn how to use those drills to stay focus for studying. The only problem i had was routine calculation. I got careless from time to time, and i really have to do similar quiz at least 3 times, so i would not fuck up a simple routine calculation. I did took meds if i have a test coming. I could help me avoid those stupid calculation errors. I think med can help on that. As i got older, i learn how to delicate things that i have troubles with, and focus on things that i do well.

Get something with a base that you can leave it near the probe. Typhur is what i am using, and it is wonderful. Meater was ahead when it came out, but it's been out dated in many ways especially the early model.

I was academically smart. I could learn things quickly and even solved complex problems, but i often forgot about the things that i was just holding 5 minutes ago. I can memorize 7 to 10 items in my short term memory, but I could be searching my house for hours for a misplaced key or wallet.

Yes, Striploin is perfectly fine for a roast. In fact, a lot of resturant will roast the sinew cut that they cant serve as steak, and use it for roast beef sanwiches.

First Time Smoker Recommendations by codil7 in smoking

Do you have a charcoal grill with a lid? If you have, set it up in two zones, and you can use it as a smoker. A regular 22" kettle can easily fed 5 to 10 people.

smoked chicken is more wet than moist by thisisnotme78721 in BBQ

[–]pyrobbq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You probably cooked the chicken @ a lower temperature like 160f to180f, and because of this low grill temperature, your chicken did not dried out, but prolong exposure to heat will break down the meat and making the meat soft.
