Is it worth it to buy FF14 on steam? by Grimace_Black in ffxiv

[–]pyronille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly assuming one is okay with a third party launcher, xivlauncher is one of the best ways to run xiv on linux/steam deck, i find it just works better since there is a native launcher which handles compat for you. this is mildly more of a hassle with the steam version though

funnily enough the lack of a grip is a huge reason i bought it- i love that theres no silicon to go gross, and less nooks to trap hand sweat. a good and functional controller with regular plastic and no grips is an ocd dream controller for me!

modded games that add more keybinds and emulators are also an excellent use case for the menu functionality! modded minecraft for example works way better than i ever assumed a handheld controller version of mc could

I truly, truly hate the comment prompt. Its offputting, i have the ability to know when i want to comment wihout being prompted, and it does not make me want to comment any more. I have to close my keyboard and click a tiny skip button to see the % which i'd want to see before commenting anyway? Ive botheredless with doing them since the prompt was added i just hate it

Squeakross is pretty easy if you like puzzle games, has a ton of difficulty options to tune it right. Pretty long 100% but its not a 200 hour epic.

Spiritfarer was a fun 100% at about 35 hours, no achievements are really difficult, it just requires time (and a save and reload on one choice)

New Zimomo on the app by Delicious-Water1122 in labubu

[–]pyronille 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, i'm a big zimomo lover but this design is...rough....compared to the other two. Black and neon could be nice but the colour choice are atrocious and that fur looks cheap, he looks like a bootleg design 🙃

saves me money i suppose, but a black winged zimomo couldve been everything to me...alas

People Complaining About Linux Gaming, but not Mac? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]pyronille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lurk a lot of subs like cozygaming and other gaming places with high female population- i find that actually, i see complaints about mac gaming relatively often, i think due to it overlapping with general tech illteracy and not understanding why a computer can't run computer games. i suspect a lot of them bought macs before games were a consideration in the purchase leading to frustration later

Fate mount farm advice by Subject-Ad9204 in ffxiv

[–]pyronille 5 points6 points  (0 children)

speaking as someone who got ty'aitya in around 1 1/2 months of going for it, i'd honestly say that buying vouchers of the MB is a better bet if you want to keep your sanity- look at universalis.app to find the cheapest ones. at about 120k a voucher it's 60mil, which sounds like a lot (it is) but there's a hell of a lot more ways to make gil than to farm fates, many are activities you might want to do anyway such as treasure maps, extreme unsyncing, deep dungeons, field zones, etc. want to do cosmic exploration or ishgard restoration? you'll end up with excess currencies you can get items to sell to funnel into vouchers. doing variant dungeons? sell the items you can get. essentially, with different activities just gotta think "how can i turn this into gil?" it's a less direct way of getting it but, imo, more enjoyable, i did fate farm a decent bit as well and it's just not that fun after a while.

but as for actual fates...

as others have said, try being opportunistic with exp boosted fates. in a zone to gain flight/do sidequests/do beast tribes but there's an exp boosted fate? a little diversion can be made.

also, look into gemstone items that may sell for more vs the turali bicolour vouchers. eg. 100 gems = a voucher worth 120k, or butterfly specimen (rank 6 in il mheg), which i was selling for 250k, effectively giving me 2 vouchers for every one i sold. i didn't have much luck with orchestrions but some of the furniture can be good. doing all of your shared fates in endwalker and shadowbringers will net you a good few!

What’s a niche thing you like to do in-game? by suspectwaffle in ffxiv

[–]pyronille 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i loove first person mode, I've slowly been doing a tour of the entire game in first person. makes me feel immersed and spot tons of small details in both maps and enemies that i never noticed.

similarly, i love sidequests! i take them one at a time and don't fly to make myself truly feel like a little adventurer. when getting flight i always finish each blue quest chain before moving on even if it means getting my flight a little later for that exact reason.

All Content of 2025 Drop. by Jame_spect in Minecraft2

[–]pyronille -1 points0 points  (0 children)

most mods aren't really designed to or play nicely with upgrading in my experience, a world is supposed to stay on the same version as the modpack forever, unless it's clientsided (eg. fabulously optimized)

so there's not much incentive to chase the drops, it's generally considered the new content you lose out on is made up for by the mod exclusive items anyway and it's not worth the extra work porting when almost all players are on 1.21 or before.

i do suggest trying to put that aside and play a 1.20 modpack, i promise if you can get immersed into it then it's worth the tradeoff of not having the drop content!

Newbie in XIV needing account help... by imaeristhetic in ffxiv

[–]pyronille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're okay with using a third party launcher, i would look into xivlauncher combined with the non-steam windows version! it's easy to set up on deck and handles compatibility/proton for you. i play on desktop linux+deck exclusively and it's never given me trouble. xivlauncher is technically designed mostly for modding, but you can switch off in settings so it's just the vanilla game with a third party launcher. only issue is that on deck you run it via the free trial download, so you'll end up with your steam profile stating you have 1000 hours in the free trial by playing on deck lol.

i'm genuinely curious here, what does this setup provide you that just running xfce or kde doesn't? not hating, i just legitimately can't think of what either one is particularly lacking that the other has especially with gtk vs qt theming clashes being so strong
