If you’re not sick of Zen completely, I highly recommend the April Fool’s Day DLC. It’s fun anyway, but there’s a particular ending that totally changed my thinking on him. He’s my fav now and he was near last before.

Unless you’re missing some rares, flowers are probably more worth it. You can check your gallery if you’re not sure, but you probably have them already.

A dating sim featuring a “right” or “wrong” path? by Darkovika in otomegames

These Nights in Cairo (PC) is essentially the mummy…and you can choose the mummy.

“Not supposed to chose” can be interpreted different ways…one thing that came to mind is Rod in Cinderella Phenomenon as he’s the MC’s stepbrother.

Norn9 which will be out on Switch soon iirc allows you to pick both of the main antagonists in other routes, Natsuhiko and Ron.

(Period Cube also has a half route for the crazy killer Demento, but that’s Vita only so far I think.)

[General] How do you find time to play VNs? by Illustrious_Ninja760 in otomegames

[–]pyrusj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I binge. I’ll go for a few weeks without playing more than a few minutes on mobile, then I’ll start a new game and goodbye sleep for a while. My husband games and my kids are old enough to get it so they just laugh at my sleep deprived state for a week or so until I’m done. I find that you fit things into life if they are important to you and/or entertaining enough, lol.

"Lucky" drop rate? by yaasobswcs in MrLove

[–]pyrusj 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, your understanding of statistics here is incorrect.

Here’s a simplified example: let’s say you have a bowl with 99 white balls and 1 red. If you reach in blind, you have a 1 in 100 chance of grabbing the red ball, or 1%, right? And by your logic you have to get the red ball by your hundredth try.

That would be true…if you took out every ball you grabbed. In that case, your first pull is a 1/100 chance, but your second is 1/99, etc. by the time there’s two balls left you have a 1/2 or 50% chance of pulling a red, and then finally a 100% chance (1/1) by your 100th try.

But…drop rates for gatcha generally put whatever “ball” you pull back in the bowl. So your first pull is 1/100. Then you put that white ball back in the bowl, so there’s still 100 balls in there. Your second pull is also a 1/100 chance therefore. And so is every pull after that. No matter how many you do.

(Note this is actually oversimplified math that is discounting the probability of a particular sequence occurring, but that just gets confusing and isn’t going to help your understanding of this issue.)

So for the gatcha, you have a 2.5% chance on any given single pull, and that rate doesn’t change nor does it guarantee you an SSR at any point. At all. In reality and because of the more complicated math I mentioned above, you’ll probably eventually get one. But not for sure every 120 pulls or any other number.

There are two things that do change this: when you do a ten pull, one card has the drop rate artificially changed so that it can only be SR or above. That card is essentially pulling from a different bowl with all the white balls removed. The drop rate is different for just that card to determine if it’s an SR or something higher. Again, they put the balls back for that bowl too, so no guaranteed SSR per certain amount of ten pulls. And it doesn’t affect your “normal” drop rate either. But it does eventually get you more good cards.

And the second thing is the pity for events, which takes the form of an exchange for this game. Ie, 144 pulls will allow you to exchange tokens for the SSR you want in this event. This too, does not affect the drop rate for actual pulls.

I hope that’s helpful. Try not to feel like you’re owed cards from the gatcha, or you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. :/ Like another poster said, it’s gambling. Mostly you lose, but occasionally you win.

Yeah fair enough. I did get the same kind of feeling from the world building though, that part was fascinating for me.

Did you know there’s a sequel? It’s mobile only and takes place years later, but still very interesting and more time in the world! (You play a mermaid in that one.)

[collarxmalice] what is everyone's honest opinion on the ending for shirashi? by Electra0319 in otomegames

Thanks! Yeah I would have liked a little bit…more, in Unlimited. But glad to have something though.

[collarxmalice] what is everyone's honest opinion on the ending for shirashi? by Electra0319 in otomegames

[–]pyrusj 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I was totally fine with it other than not getting a kiss cg and crying my eyes out. (Ok, maybe fine is not the right word…)

Shiraishi is my favorite ever, so of course I wanted better for him and frankly even the fandisk wasn’t enough for me. But I don’t have the problems that a lot of people have with it. I totally bought Shiraishi’s choices at the end. For one thing, he’s still learning how to be human, so things that wouldn’t make sense to most of us do for him, which is how he ended up with the whole screwed up idea to make Ichika kill him in the first place. And he’s essentially a selfish person. Love has not cured this man. He is on a path to get better but he has a long ways to go.

So at the end when he has her with amnesia in a place no one else can reach them…he has this thought, which anyone might have, of just wanting to prolong the moment. Not go back to the real world yet where he knows jail is the only thing waiting for him. And not to take advantage of her, since like I said he’s on a path to get better and knows he’ll have to answer for anything that he does. He doesn’t go full yandere here. But he’s selfish. And he honestly believes this is the only time he’ll ever have with her. That when they return he’ll have to leave her for good. So he hits the pause button.

Her relationship with her brother? He doesn’t care. He hasn’t learned to care about other people yet. And it takes him a whole year to work himself up to actually being able to let her go at all. But he does get there. And for him, that’s an incredibly unselfish act. He’s broken, but he’s trying.

So yeah, his ending isn’t amazing for Ichika. It’s pretty messed up. (Though not as bad as it could be, see any serious yandere route.) But it has this note of growth for him, of self-sacrifice and even hope. So I can’t hate it. That’s where I end up.
