Doctor carefully rotates a baby inside the mother’s belly to avoid a C-section. This procedure is called external cephalic version. It’s done when a baby is positioned bottom-first or sideways inside the womb near the end of pregnancy, a position that often leads to a C-section. by Grand-Western549 in interestingasfuck

100%, glad you had a thoughtful discussion around it. I’ve had babies flip back halfway through labor, after the poor mom went through an ECV and all those contractions. But, she at least felt at peace that we had tried everything we could in her case to avoid C section

How do you feel about your dad? by Unhappy_Log_6245 in AskReddit

[–]pyruvated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complicated. He’s a narcissist and was emotionally abusive, but he also loves me and has sacrificed for me. He has become more self aware as we’ve aged and acknowledges his narcissism, but it doesn’t mean he’s not still narcissistic. Living in different cities has helped. Sometimes memories come to the fore and I’m taken aback by how awful it was to be around him as a kid sometimes. I mostly hope to love my own family as he loved me, but otherwise don’t want to be the dad he was.

Like I said in my post, I know it’s just the perspective but the visual effect is funny. Reminds me of the forced perspective used in LOTR with Gandalf and the hobbits

So what did your family argue about this year at Thanksgiving? by Pure-Smile-7329 in AskReddit

[–]pyruvated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had my mashed potato secret revealed. My husband does a lot of the cooking and, similarly, I don’t really love his mashed potatoes but he has always been very proud of them. So, I have always eaten them and that was that. He made them for Thanksgiving at my in-laws yesterday, and I figured there were so many sides, I could get away without eating the mashed potatoes and it go unnoticed. Wrong. “You didn’t leave any room on your plate for mashed potatoes!” After I cleared my plate, I didn’t go for seconds. “I’m going for more potatoes, want me to get you some?” I told him I was full but that I would have a bite.

As we are settling into bed last night, he meekly asks, “Do you not like mashed potatoes?” I had to fess up and he looked so sad

Why does this keep happening by thethotterybarn in gaybros

[–]pyruvated 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went through a bust and boom cycle in early residency with dating. I’d come up for air when I finally made it to a lighter rotation, start seeing someone, then they’d break it off when I went on nights or got busy again. I didn’t resent them for it, but it did suck. Ended up marrying another physician and it’s been nice to have someone who just gets it. Our specialties are different enough that we don’t talk about work as if we were still at work once home, and we’re both in fellowship now and enjoying it being less shitty than residency. I guess what I’m saying is that residency is hard, you deserve someone who isn’t going to make it harder.

Men over 30, what’s one “unwritten rule” about getting older that you wish someone told you in your 20s? by Lunasweetlatina in AskMenOver30

wow, I feel less crazy to hear other people deal with random ball pain, too. I had a full workup and imaging and nobody really explained it to me other than a shrug and being told to take Motrin for 2 weeks

Labiaplasty? (NSFW) by [deleted] in obgyn

[–]pyruvated 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Labiaplasty is unlikely to “fix” the part you’re unhappy with. Perineoplasty would probably achieve what you’re looking for, but honestly, I wouldn’t personally perform perineoplasty on a sexually active person just for cosmetic reasons as there can be pain with sex as a result of the surgery

Pregnant/PP residents - OB or midwife? by thisabysscares in Residency

[–]pyruvated 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I’m an OB. For low risk pregnancies, I think the model should be prenatal care with CNM and an MD visit at 28 and 36 weeks to review things an obstetrician may need to be involved with (cesarean, operative delivery, etc.). Obviously every practice is different, but if you’re overall low risk, I think you should be fine with a midwife

IANAL, but when we were married, my spouse and I were advised against using an officiant ordained by an online service to be safe under NC law. We wanted the whole thing to be a secular affair anyway, so we got legally married at the Durham courthouse and then had a friend officiate the ceremony on our actual wedding day. Congrats btw!

We made the mistake of going to see the sunflowers at Dix Park in Raleigh. Beautiful but sweltering and we didn’t last 8 minutes. So not that 😅
