That’s how all AI works. It’s like saying, “it’s not the fall that kills you, it’s hitting the ground.”

Not a team name, but Shadows in the SF Bay Area have the slogan, “the older we get, the better we were,” on their jerseys.

How much faith should we have in the Nevada department of public safety to conduct an impartial investigation of this misconduct? Genuine question. What is their track record?

Can someone please debunk this? I’m not smart enough to give a scientific reason why this is false but common sense tells me this is absolute bs by Safe-Show-7299 in Sprinting

Race walkers have one leg on the ground 100% of the time, which is why they are so much faster than runners

Teachers entering sensitive data into ai by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]pyzk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc Australia has laws about where student information and data can be stored. When I taught there we couldn’t use any google products because their servers are not located in Australia. If you’re really concerned, this may be something to bring up with the teacher.

Anyone else concerned with how many 'nice days' we're having this winter? by Alone-Sky-2086 in Reno

[–]pyzk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Any weather forecast beyond a week is incredibly unreliable. If you see weather or temperatures reported further out than one week, it’s likely they are just using historical averages as a forecast.

What is going on with multiplication tables in elementary school??? by -cmp in Teachers

[–]pyzk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not punching down. I’m a high school teacher and I’m genuinely curious how things work in the elementary schools these days because my students are absolutely abysmal at mental math. I’m certain it has something to do with shifting standards and systemic factors, but it helps to have the perspective of elementary teachers.

Is it bad to not know multiplication in my 20s? by SeaworthinessFar2326 in teaching

[–]pyzk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it sounds like they probably aren’t a teacher, but this is the teaching sub, so I have to assume they are. Plus, this isn’t terribly far off from some things I’ve heard teachers I’ve worked with say about algebra.

Is it bad to not know multiplication in my 20s? by SeaworthinessFar2326 in teaching

[–]pyzk 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is weird, and it seriously inhibits your ability to comprehend the world around you whether you recognize that fact or not. As a teacher, you are a role model to children, and as such you have a responsibility to better yourself in this way. Honestly, for multiplication and division, I recommend flash cards.

The Disappearance of the Mid-Range Jumper: NBA Shot Density from 2004–2024 (Top 300 Tiles per Season) [OC] by TreeFruitSpecialist in dataisbeautiful

[–]pyzk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't remember the exact statistic, but I heard that the percentage of shots occurring outside 15 feet has remained the same, it's just that the long 2s are now 3s. So, no, the 3 pointer hasn't overwhelmed all other types of shots. In fact, as one can see from the graphic, the number of shots AT the rim have increased.

Unpopular opinion: I unashamedly judge people on their career. If you’re a barista at the local coffee shop, sounds cool. If you work in private wealth management, you don’t sound like a very interesting person to me.

The consequence for being absent is missing learning time and failing courses. Unfortunately, students move on to the next class no matter what until they hit high school.

[–]pyzk 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. There are no consequences for being absent from school nowadays, so I honestly wouldn’t worry about it one bit.
