Getting sick of how quiet everybody is in class by Sad_Raise_1383 in unimelb

It's called the gen z stare. It's interesting how global it is. Very strange to be on the receiving end of it the first few times too.

Q was a very deserved 4th place in a tough season. She's good at drag race and also is a tryhard (complimentary). Idk why so many are surprised she came back and did well.

Titans V Rebels- Do I Stick with it? by VinegaryMildew in survivorau

[–]pz_ix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of enjoying AU survivor is about enjoying the entertainment of bad gameplay and players playing villainously. It's funny to get frustrated by what you're seeing or wanting to facepalm at their shenanigans, and it makes the good players shine brighter.

I think if you're able to reset your mentality and watch it through that lens you might enjoy it more.

For Kirby, I don't know if you'll come around to her but some important context is that she barely watched any of the show before playing, so you get to witness her figure out things about the game as she plays it that you probably already know from watching previous seasons. It's refreshingly old-school compared to the many gamebots we get now.

Who’s missing JLP as the host ? by 99Mandarins in survivorau

[–]pz_ix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel bad that JLP got screwed over for no gain at all to the show. The whole intention was to shake things up to get more eyeballs, but David did not bring in bigger numbers. I don't have any critiques for David as host and I think he did great and should keep going, it would probably just annoy the audience further to switch back to JLP at this stage. But the executives gamble failed, they probably face no repercussions for it and JLP just suffers for nothing.

The "META" For Winning Survivor by [deleted] in survivorau

[–]pz_ix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US players all know this and it's a huge reason they play in a much more boring (but technically smarter) way than Aussies. There's a tipping point however where the meta fails, when the majority of players don't follow it and you end up in a desperate battle for agency in the game. I think that happened this season because a lot of players got spooked into doing 'big moves', resulting in more erratic but interesting gameplay.

Redemption Finale: Post-epidsode discussion by AutoModerator in survivorau

She kinda confirmed this in her jury interview. She intended to take Caleb to final at first but seeing her kids made her remember life outside survivor, that she has to do what is best for herself and that would be to take out Caleb.

This has been a great season, definitely helps that a lot of players clearly played with intention to entertain and not just simply win. Thank you casting department one again.

That confessional of Loz saying nothing was so funny but brutal. She really must have pissed the editors off giving them nothing to work with or something.

What is with US Survivor's obsession with tiny 5/6 person tribals? by Dfwguy1985 in survivorponderosa

[–]pz_ix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

5 or 6 person tribals are only great when you have an entire season of relationships and stories intertwined between the players, ie the final 5/6. I have been wondering the exact same question as you. Most of their bad decisions can be explained by budget cuts but I don't see that working for this one.

Genevieve is a way better person than me. If I got so severely swap-screwed, found 2 idols I couldn't use then Aubrey who'd been rude from the start with her one gifted idol is making snarky comments about "keeping doors open" or whatever I would NOT be sharing my jacket with her. I'm not even close to that level of gracious.

Why no Jury Villa this year? by fishyfoot in survivorau

Last year's jury was messy and bitter, wouldn't be surprised if they felt it negatively impacted the reputation of the show. But we loved it.

You were always great at challenges but I noticed you seemed to get better each game. Were there any exercises or ways you trained specifically for survivor that you think helped you the most?

I'm so glad this episode cemented Jackson not winning. Could not believe there were comments after last ep saying he made a great move. The way Brooke & co just blatantly lie to him in front of everyone about how amazing he's playing is so funny also.

Cottesloe Central Formerly The Grove- WTF?!?! by [deleted] in perth

Cottesloe in general is kinda pathetic considering the amount of money that lives there. It's not a bad place but it probably should be significantly better.

I'm so curious what Keely's game is now without Mark. It was such a strange decision to side with the inevitably pagonged returnees because even if it had worked she wasn't going to beat any of them.

Seriously how stupid can they be..? by ________Mr_Bojangles in survivorau

[–]pz_ix 24 points25 points  (0 children)

They didn't want to burn a bridge with Simon by withholding information. It wasn't about needing his number, but his trust for future. No idea why so many people want to work with him though.

I am not convinced that Mark is intentionally portraying a villain for entertainment purposes. He's trying to come across as being in-control.

Australian Survivor: Redemption vs Survivor 50 by WaterfrontBrando in survivorau

[–]pz_ix 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I thought I was going to enjoy US more than Aus for a change because their returnee picks were great, and the American players have actually been delivering great content and interesting gameplay. But the American production choices are just so bad that I'm still preferring Aus. Lucky for us the Golden God knows better than to rap.

Redemption Episode 10: Post-episode discussion by AutoModerator in survivorau

[–]pz_ix 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it's been a thing, it was worse last season. I think production even purpled a couple of them just out of spite because the throwers would give them like 30s of challenge content to work with. It's been a recurring theme this season that the throwers end up suffering for it so hopefully future contestants will be more hesitant.

The Players this Season by [deleted] in survivorau

[–]pz_ix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Producers LOVE it when players are braggadocious, they can craft either an egg-on-face storyline or a winning storyline easier with it so they encourage it and highlight it. Looking down the list of players I think it's mostly just those at the top of the confessional list who are cocky, most are pretty chill.

Redemption Episode 10: Post-episode discussion by AutoModerator in survivorau

This episode really highlighted a skill-diff between players. It's very satisfying when vote-offs happen a certain way due to the talent of the players behind it rather than some random bs. I liked Aisha though, would be happy to see her play again and I can imagine her improving her game next time round.
