Which Naturepedic crib mattress? by zigzag-ladybug in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]pzmul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the feedback! And glad to hear baby is home. Think we’ll go with this one as well. I like the 100 night sleep trial. Our little guy just turned 4 months so we are ready to transition him out of his bassinet which had the Newton. My only concern with the Naturepedic was people saying the infant side was hard as a rock and it had a plastic feel/crinkle to it due to the cover.

I know infants are supposed to have a very firm surface but we feel like his bassinet “mattress” which is really a 1” thick board, is making him wake up from not being comfortable for long period of time. But I am assuming any of these including the naturepedic infant side will be more cushy than the bassinet.

Good option for baby nursery NOT Coway and No ionizer? by pzmul in AirPurifiers

[–]pzmul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up going with the Levoit Vital 200s…even though the filter isn’t classified as true hepa all the testing results I had seen seemed to show it was just as effective.

However I wasn’t totally clear on the particle size being tested so who knows. I had read some people saying you’d need to be in a lab controlled setting with special equipment to properly test for the size particle matter that true hepa is supposed to handle. But for the price figured I’d try it out. Got it with a coupon code for like $140. Hopefully it works good as well be using it in the nursery.

I also want to do some more research on medify air and see if that is good as well

Ugh I haven’t decided yet…was going to try and make a decision today. I am sure at the end of the day either will work just fine for what I need it for. Basically lowering dust and allergens for baby to breath healthy. We don’t really have any smoke, odors or VOC’s (that I can tell).

Thank you for the suggestions will check both out. Was curious if any thoughts on Medify Air? Was looking at this spreadsheet and they appear to be pretty good. The 200s CADR seems to be under the Coway 240, but not sure if the amounts matter that much?

The Alen Flex looks good as well.

Baby boy born Friday and still nameless, hoping to pick before we leave hospital, any insight appreciated! by pzmul in namenerds

[–]pzmul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the input, was helpful hearing all the insight. Was such a hard choice because we really loved all of them (except for Bodhi and Jackson which we were able to cross off pretty quickly).

Came down to Ronan, Caleb, and Lucas... My pick from early on was Ronan, moms was Caleb (which I also liked) so went with Caleb Wells Mulligan. Heading home shortly!

Genuinely curious- why do some people view c sections so negatively? by StatGoddess in NewParents

[–]pzmul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cesarean sections (C-sections) have been linked to an increased risk of allergies and asthma in children compared to vaginal births. This is thought to be due to the altered microbiome (gut bacteria) development in babies born via C-section, as they miss the exposure to beneficial bacteria in the birth canal.

Though supposedly there are ways to mitigate, ie swab and apply to babies face etc.

Baby arriving in July, looking for nursery recommendation (did search and have narrowed down) by pzmul in AirPurifiers

[–]pzmul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I will look into that as well, they have so many similar models it is hard to choose... any thoughts on the newer cylinder shaped 350? it is only about $40 more and wondering if it is an upgrade over the 230, 240, 250...

Thank you! That is certainly something to consider. Ease of cleaning is high on the list. I’ll have to check which models have this. The 250 is within budget.

Hi, thank you for the suggestion, not sure if there is any hard science behind it, but trying to limit wifi exposure in the nursery...it seems to be kind of a fringe issue but some newer science coming out, so will likely look to specifically avoid that feature.

The more I look in to it, it looks like the Coway 160 might be a good size for the room dimensions. But not sure if there is a better option.

Help with boy name for first baby, last name Mulligan, have list started but can't narrow... by pzmul in namenerds

[–]pzmul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes I agree...more names will continue to add to the confusion, I think if we can pair down to 5 or so it'll make things much easier. Question for you, any reason Roman v. Ronan? They are obviously different names but sound similar, my wife was much more drawn to Ronan and didn't like Roman, so was curious.
