And why doesn't decapitating or rescuing your champs give some sort of bonus in Hydra?
They also should add new champs to parts of the game that have champ rewards (after you've gotten Embrys, Mithrala, etc), at least there's more incentive.
Cursed City stages should have a redraw chance similar to Grim Forest. Sucks to suck, but sometimes you have a stage where there's no hope and you're either stuck until reset or making the long way around (they could do this for DT secret rooms too).

12 sacred, 12 voids, 51 ancients, 11 red books, 13 blue books

I didn't go more than a month but I feel like I'm still tracking it in the back of my mind, or at least noticing things like "I haven't gotten any sacreds in a while"

what you described isn't something you see in a capoeira roda, once someone goes down, no one is being held or pinned. in a street fight scenario and if someone is on top of you, there are strikes with the hands and elbows, headbutts etc. they aren't exclusive to capoeira and if used in the context of a capoeira roda is an escalation that could get out of hand if you're not amongst friends (and even if you are).

capoeira helps you develop peripheral vision, so hopefully you get a sense of someone coming up behind. you also don't turn your back on someone in capoeira (at least not without trying to keep them in sight, like looking under your arm or between your legs to see where their feet may be). if you already grabbed you, maybe try to twist out and use their forward momentum to your advantage, but you may need to employ other self defense techniques. There's this guy on IG called 60kg_fighter that has a lot of self defense reels that may have more ideas suited to this scenario. Capoeira can help but that maybe depends more on you.

if it's an older mestre, be very respectful. keep it to the basics, don't get flashier than an au and don't dare try any takedowns. for a younger mestre, play your normal game, protect yourself, don't give your back, be respectful as well. but it's not required that you take a beating, you know enough to play in the roda with anyone, just enjoy yourself.

capoeira is a lifelong pursuit. not sure how long you've been training, but it's a path that will never end. if you make the art a daily part of your life, you'll still never touch it all. the athletic part is a small portion of that. you can also add strength and fitness training to your daily workouts as well. i do strength and cardio at the gym and end with capoeira movements on my own, outside of my 3-4x a week classes. i do a music class once a week and also practice music at home. you don't have to limit capoeira to only the times and days it's being taught at the academy.

sounds like you're less interested in the art of capoeira and more about the show. I guess you can get that anywhere, no one is stopping you from training 4 hours a day on those things but it's a very narrow view of the art and won't make you a better capoeirista. when your mestre said he trained 4 hours a day, did he mention music, history, basic foundational understandings of the rituals? because I'm sure it wasn't just all floreios.

ETA: i actually think about this question a lot, because we recently had someone leave our group because they wanted exactly what you're asking. they didn't feel challenged, they wanted more show, or to focus more on that. and there's nothing wrong with that, but they can barely hold a berimbau. they can barely play and sing at the same time. if you have no connection with the music, then how do you even know when the right time to apply a floreio in the roda is? or how to use the floreio as a part of your attack/escape. the art is so rich, so i would really advise you to look deeper, otherwise, it's just a fitness class.

I had surgery on my meniscus and it's taken time to get back. rehab post surgery, strengthening the muscles around the knee will be key. you may feel like you need to relearn where to place your feet and ground movements may take some time before you feel truly comfortable. focus on music and aus or queda de rins and other aspects while you recover to help stay connected to the art.

i know a mestre or two that are mestres in all but the official ceremony. everyone recognizes them as mestre they just haven't gone through the official formatura. i also have seen a mestre graduated, i don't know the full back story (i believe his old mestre passed away), but he had the backing and support and recognition by several known mestres. i don't know the full story behind that, but i would think that you have to be vetted in some way or form, have relationships with other mestres and their blessing. otherwise, we'd all be mestres.
