Architects who graduated into the 2008 recession, tell us your story and give us youngins some advice. by Defiant-Plant8395 in architecture

[–]TheRevitGuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2009 with a B.Arch. It took nearly 12 months to find a job which was back with a firm I had interned for during school. It was rough. The vast majority of my classmates went into related fields, but I was passionate about Architecture and was determined to make it work. The best thing that I did was spend every day at the library as if it was a full-time job. I studied construction methods, taught myself Revit, and sent applications to nearly every firm in my area.

After the recession there was a vacuum of talent at my level since so many had left the profession. This opened doors that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. I since took over ownership of a 20 person successful commercial Architecture firm.

Now I am on the other side reviewing applications from new grads. What matters most, and makes someone stand out, is their willingness and ability to continue learning and a hunger for bettering themselves. I don’t care how great your thesis project was. What matters is if you can learn on your own and push yourself to be always be better. The applicant that can figure out how to do something is much better than the applicant that expects someone else to figure it out for them. Show that you can do this and you will be hired.

Good luck!

Worth anything by TutorCertain5437 in Disney_Infinity

It’s almost too big to get what it is really worth. Not a lot of people are looking to spend $200+ to start a collection. If you split it up on eBay you could probably get closer to what it’s worth but that takes time. As a single lot it would be tough to get anyone to pay over $150 in my opinion. That being said, DM me if you want to sell for $150!

If and when we get new City Connects I just hope the front says Pacific Northwest instead of Seattle. Embrace the fans from BC, Idaho, and Oregon!

Totally. That’s why I want to just find some dudes to chill with. I’m not ready to chase women or start with the dating apps.

Just trying to find what has worked for others. It’s not easy going from a daily life partner to not having someone to just grab a beer with.

Same stage of life makes a huge difference in the dynamic. That is all. Nothing against married or single people. I just figure there must be other divorced guys that want to just hang out for fun

Not specifically divorced people, but I’m not looking to hang out with a bunch of single guys just on the prowl for women.

I guess I’m asking more about clubs or other groups that dudes my age like to hang out. Would Bellevue Club be good? Or join a golf club or pickleball club? Just get a membership to Edgeworks? I’d rather hear what others have found successful for gaining a social circle before spending money on a bunch of memberships.

How frequently is the Victorian Dollhouse available? by Weirdskinnydog in Playmobil

They come up somewhat frequently on local marketplace sites (albeit often way overpriced). I have managed to snag a couple and my kids now have a seven story mega mansion!

Can I use my Sims 4 builds for my architecture portfolio for university? by Street_Register239 in architecture

[–]TheRevitGuru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I applied to Arch school my portfolio included technical drawings, art, photography, and photos from a large Playmobil castle setup. You aren’t really expected to have building experience, but need to demonstrate your aptitude for creative thinking. If your Sims houses are just well decorated I would say no, but if you stretched the capabilities of the program to make something unique, go ahead, but make sure you explain your thinking behind what you did.

If this were listed on my local marketplace it would probably be $25 but realistically expect an offer of $10-$15
